Babystyle oyster carrycot

willoughboobs · 11/06/2013 21:34

I'm currently pregnant with dc3 and I have bought a babystyle oyster with carrycot plus all the trimmings like new for £200, it was a steal in the condition it is in Grin

I'm wanting to save more money and not have to buy a Moses basket, could I use the carrycot instead? Would I need a mattress?
If so where would I buy one?

Thanks Smile

Did refused to sleep in her moses basket, so we just used the carrycot from our oyster. We didn't get a separate mattress.

I used the carrycot. I used the mattress provided

Thank you for replying Smile

Do normal Moses basket sheets fit over the mattress?

To be honest, I would drop Babystyle a line and ask if the carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping. I believe the Oyster Max one is, but I am not sure about the Oyster one.
Meanwhile the carrycot would be fine for day time use - just check for overnight use.

We have Oyster Plush and the carrycot is just amazing! We loved it as much as our LG is :) She doesn't want to sleep in her cot bed, but she loved to sleep in her carrycot. We just put it into the cot and she was sleeping there all night! She looks so comfortable in it. We have used it for 7 months, she just grown up from it, I will miss our carrycot ;)
All materials are really good quality, especially inside, warm and so nice in touch. We have an original mattress provided, it's tin but still enough good for her to sleep.
Oyster was our good choise ever.

To be honest its not about whether a baby looks comfortable or is warm - it is about safety and whether the carrycot passes the safety standards for carrycot use plus the safety standards for overnight use. There are critical distances between the mattress and the top of the carrycot which need to be met to say whether a carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping or not. Some companies put in good ventilation too - whether in the mattress or the base. The base I believe has to be solid too. I know some companies sell specific mattresses for carrycots if you wish to use them overnight too.

I seem to remember that the oyster did have the correct ventilation. That was three years ago however.

yes we used it for overnight sleeping having checked out some of the things above - the carrycot has ventilation in the bottom, we always had it on the frame so air could circulate and we put the proper Moses mattress in rather than the thin oyster one - happily the two were the same size. twas great for us.

Not sure if it's changed or not but I'm sure my oyster carrycot said it wasn't suitable for overnight sleeping. I'll check when I go in the loft
