Uppababy cruz harness?

strawberryswing · 08/06/2013 09:20

After weeks of researching I've finally found one that fits our needs perfectly, and DP hasn't sneered his face and said no to! (huge bonus).

So I've been reading the reviews and one or two have said the harness is quite loose for smaller babies. My dd is one next month but she is on the small side, so does anyone have this who can tell me how loose the harness actually is?

I can't have a look in the shop because my nearest stockist is 43 miles away and they're out of stock. So gutted as it seemed perfect!

Thanks Smile

A friend has one and she's got her small 5 month old in there. The harness is too loose but that's not surprising on a baby that size. I think you'd be fine with a 1 year old unless tiny. John Lewis has recently started stocking them if that helps (probably not!)

strawberryswing · 08/06/2013 20:52

Ah lovely thankyou! I am nowhere near a John Lewis unfortunately :( But it does sound promising. She's 19lbs so not exactly tiny, sounds like it should be fine, thanyou Smile

Hope you enjoy it! What colour will you get?

I have a vista myself (still using the carrycot but have tried the seat fwiw and the straps are fine on my 4 month old but she's a chunk Smile )

The harness IMHO is too big for a young baby. I dont know if the Baby insert for the Uppababy seats make it better. But for me a tight harness is an essential. I have seen a baby caterpult out of a harness which was not tight enough (2 fingers underneath is perfect) when their pushchair tipped and I know another baby who fell out onto a hard supermarket floor and had a fractured skull. If a harness is not tight enough, make sure you add on a tight extra one.

Just bear in mind that the suspension on the Cruz is non existant. You can see it visibly but you can't feel it and the ride is very hard. I tried really hard to like my Cruz but I couldnt hack the non suspension. The Vista is MUCH better for this and TBH folds smaller as well.

strawberryswing · 09/06/2013 09:19

Eeek, that sounds terrible tiggy!

I would get the black but the fact that I can't try her out in it is making me slightly weary now with these reviews.

I'd love a vista but the two piece fold is a deal breaker for me unfortunately Sad

Now I want a bugaboo bee, hmm! Thankyou for you help ladies, well take it all into consideration

Eek that's scary tiggy. Any way you could buy and return if too big OP?

Incidentally the vista does fold in one piece with the seat forward facing but not parent facing.

glorious · 09/06/2013 12:43

Just checked the vista harness on DD who is 15lb 9 or more. With straps in the bottom hole and as tight as they will go you can just get two fingers in around her shoulders and chest, more like 2.5 on tummy. The straps that go around her hips go tighter than needed.

tiggy does that sound safe?

It's not relevant to us yet as she's still in the bassinet and hopefully will squeeze in to 6 months (98th centile for height) but it would give me an idea what I'm aiming for.

The cruz looks similar but I'm not sure whether it's absolutely the same so it may or may not help you OP.

Ihateparties · 09/06/2013 12:53

Is the cruz a 1 piece fold? The vista folds in one piece forward facing... have i missed something about the cruz that makes it different?

strawberryswing · 09/06/2013 14:03

Ah I read the vista was a two piece fold, didn't realise it folded forward facing. Just had a look and unfortunately its wider than my.b-mobile, which is too wide for me.

I suppose I could return it if it's too big. Any recommendations for anything similar?

Everything is too wide for me Grin

The baby jogger versa is a shade under 60cm, folds with the seat in both directions.

The babystyle oyster is 56cm and folds both directions but larger than the versa.

The bee is the smallest that folds in both directions, 53cm ish wide.

What are you looking for exactly?

strawberryswing · 09/06/2013 19:05

something under 58cms (ish), parent facing and a large hood. Walk everywhere so don't mind how big the fold is as long as it folds in one piece Smile

Ihateparties · 09/06/2013 19:12

Versa is this.. the big hood especially,so put that one on your list to at least view if possible. I think it's 59.something cm.

So you don't mind which way the seat is attached as long as it folds with it on one way, not necessarily when parent facing?

The bee is less than ideal for walking everywhere imho although people definitely do so.

I have my thinking cap on.. most parentfacers bar the oyster, cruz and bee a 60cm wide.. or a little more in the case of the vista. Emmaljunga do a couple of narrower ones, city nitro and monkey.. the look of them is less modern though. There will be others.. i'm just trying to think of them!

strawberryswing · 09/06/2013 19:37

Just had a quick look at the versa and it looks brilliant! One handed fold both ways, big hood, parent facing, comfortable etc.

Is there a catch? or is it just that good?

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 09/06/2013 20:12

It's good! It's not compact, very much average sized but the fold isn't. It's not mega light to lift either but the non gt version is very light to push. Huge basket, adjustable handle, footrest etc. There is a choice between eva wheels with suspension or gt/forever air tyres and no suspension, which I find a bit annoying as I'd rather have the gt wheels WITH the suspension. I walk everywhere too.

For the price they really are very good, boots have had them on offer a couple of times plus discount codes, points, cashback etc. It's sometimes possible to obtain the non gt versa for under 300 Grin

strawberryswing · 09/06/2013 20:28

Think I'm decided! Dp approves to which has been literally impossible! The size of the fold makes no difference to me but the ease of fold is amazing. Seat looks great aswell, oh thankyou Grin

Only a shame they dont have them in the purple or green which are the only bj colours I actually like, though I am willing to compromise!

Yay!

Tiggywunkle · 09/06/2013 23:51

Just to clarify, the babies didn't fall out of a Cruz, it was simply that the harnesses werent done up tightly enough. People for some reason - in pushchairs AND in car seats, seem to think tight harnesses are uncomfy for their children. I would love to start a campaign to get people to tighten up harnesses on pushchairs, in cars and in highchairs etc. A harness is there for a reason ie safety. A tight harness is highly unlikely to hurt a child - its more likely to make them feel secure. I tighten mine on every outing - coats, jackets, t shirts etc in this changeable weather means that harnesses need altering every day (of course you shouldnt have coats on in the car). As long as you do your best to tighten harnesses as best you can, then thats all you can do. Ultimately if your baby fell out, you would be responsible. If unsure, you can always add on an additional harness.

As for the Versa - excellent choice! Very good pushchair! You can always buy a liner or footmuff to jazz it up!

Thanks tiggy
