What am I missing? Uppababy vista

IBelieveInPink · 02/06/2013 22:54

We are just entering the wide world of pram shopping, and after a LOT of research we are fairly convinced that we want the uppababy vista.
However after reading advice from this forum, I was going to spot some people with it, and ask them what they thought of it to get a first hand experience review. However...... Month or so later and I still haven't seen anyone who has one!! After all the great reviews it has had, this doesn't make sense to me? Why don't more people have it, what am I missing?

I don't have one but see them daily here. Partially dependent on local stockists maybe? There will only be a certain percentage of people doing this kind of online research, lots will still be just going to mothercare, kiddicare etc and buying something they like the look of Smile.

MrsJaqenHgar · 02/06/2013 23:17

I see a lot of them but I think Ihateparties as a point about stockist. There are 2 within half a mile of my house so I'm bound to see more of the prams they stock locally.

I considered the Vista and like it a lot but ultimately it was a bit too big and the two piece fold was a deal breaker.

FeelingHorse · 02/06/2013 23:33

I have one and I love it!

I know what you mean about not seeing many around...there are a few in my city, but not common (like the chameleon). I think that was the big appeal for me. And the fact that baby is so high up. We did start if with a Bugaboo Bee, but being 5ft 11ins the baby was ridiculously far away from me!

I wouldn't be without mine. It is a two piece fold, but it is fairly light and very easy to put together. I manage to carry my 9wo DS, the carrycot and the chassis down 2 flights of stairs in my building with no problems.

Ihateparties · 02/06/2013 23:43

We used to have a big mamas and papas store and their prams were everywhere, not so much so now. I can't help feeling like the combination of mothercare and a distinct lack of research is the only thing that could possibly account for the existence of so many quinny buzz. Sorry I've failed on the plural there,no idea what it should be.

It just seems so unlikely that you'd go to an independent shop with a good selection and decide to go home with a buzz... buuuut each to their own Grin

I have one ,baby due soon, cant wait to use it ! Ive seen about 3 round our way since I started looking .

DoodleAlley · 03/06/2013 06:01

There are loads around me but our local John Lewis stocks it so maybe more people buy it.

We loved the vista it moves like a dream but unfortunately the handle was just a shade too high for me

PassTheCremeEggs · 03/06/2013 06:32

The vista is brilliant and I would highly recommend it. And it does fold in one piece if the toddler seat is on and forward facing - mine's folded like that all the time.

PassTheCremeEggs · 03/06/2013 06:35

And stockists are definitely the reason you don't see them. When we got ours you could barely get them anywhere (although they were massively popular in the States). We live in SW London and since John Lewis started stocking the Vista about a year ago there has been an explosion of them - they're now rivalling the thousands of bugaboo chameleons which dominate this part of London.

CruCru · 03/06/2013 09:19

I bought mine from a stockist who had to import it from the US (since then John Lewis have started selling them).

Jenijena · 03/06/2013 09:23

I have one but only saw one when I was pregnant. I've seen more about now (and would recommend it) but not as ubiquitous as chameleon.

Tiggywunkle · 03/06/2013 10:26

I think another reason is that Vista owners are all happy and dont need to hang around on a pushchair forum Wink.
I am not sure I have heard anyone say anything bad about a Vista. I have had one and I think its one of the best spec pushchairs - if not the best spec pushchair I have had. It is excellent. It does fold in one piece but the fold is long / tall (it freestands) which was a niggle with me. The carrycot I think is the most gorgeous I have seen. It ticks all my boxes for an excellent pushchair. Just watch the handle height as it is on the tall side - I am 5ft 6ins and I didnt need to extend it.

jumperooo · 03/06/2013 10:53

I've got one, its great. I'm 5'3 and I don't find the handle height an issue at all but I can see that some people do. It is quite wide, but its turning circle is tiny for a travel system. We looked at quinny and bugaboo systems and they felt too low for me so I guess I like high-up sturdier type pushchairs. DD loves being in the Vista and we used the carrycot for her to sleep in overnight from birth to 4 months. No need for a Moses basket! The built in sunshades are fab.DD hates the sun in her eyes so they have been great recently plus you don't have to constantly adjust and faff about with a Sun parasol which I've seen loads of people doing lately on the icandy etc. I love that I never have to carry anything as everything fits in the basket underneath, and I mean everything. I also love that the fabrics are machine washable.

The resale value on the Vista is excellent by the way, I've seen 2/3 year old models going on eBay for £400.

FeelingHorse · 03/06/2013 11:03

Haha Parties Grin I probably should have mentioned that DS is in the carrycot as I carrying it down the stairs. No three armed Mama here Grin!

Lots of friends and family haves pushed DS in his UB, and they are so impressed how light it feels and how smooth it is. And YY to the carrycot being gorgeous!

IBelieveInPink · 03/06/2013 12:18

Thanks all. That does make a lot of sense with the stockists - and I guess I was silly to assume everyone does as much research as we have!!
Even more convinced that it is the best buy for us, thank you all for your comments. :)

They do terrific customer aftercare as well (after nearly two years the basket was looking shabby so they sent me a new one).

tomatoplantproject · 03/06/2013 17:08

I love love love love love mine. Dd is now 6mo. The only thing is that it takes up lots of space in the car which isn't normally a problem. And is quite wide to get onto a bus so sometimes I have to get on at the back of the bus.
