Vista vs Versa, or jane muum?... advice appreciated!!

Hello all -

This is my first ever post on an internet forum, so I hope I'm in the right place and writing an appropriate message :-o

I am due with the first bean on 30th August 2013. I am getting my already fairly uncomfortable knickers in a twist (tmi!) over the big buggy conundrum. It is a relief to see lots of posts about the two buggies I have somehow managed to narrow it down to- now I would really love to ask any owners of these models some pretty specific questions. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated...

So, the front runner is the Uppababy vista, but I am 5ft3 and have wondered whether over time I might find the handle too high? Are there any shortish vista owners out there who might be able to enlighten me on this one?

A very close second is the BJ Versa... but I am in a tangle over the less than sturdy looking carrycot; again, are there any BJ Versa owners who have experiences, good or bad, of this feature? Has it bothered you?

One final query is regarding the Jane Muum; this seems like a good option with a sturdy carrycot, but I cannot find a stockist anywhere (South East, nr. Brighton). Are there any Jane Muum owners out there who would recommend pursuing this one?

Thank you so much for reading a fairly lengthy post!

FB45 :-)

Haha, the versa carrycot seems to have this strange effect on people, it was recently compared to a naff sports holdall on this board. The vista one is pretty plush though. You live with the pushchair seat much longer than with the carrycot though so if it comes down to carrycot choice try to bear that in mind.

I'm going to give the usual answer - they're both great. Imho the versa has more long term advantages (the fold being a huge one.. or rather not a huge one) but the vista is so well liked it seems unlikely you'd be disappointed.

I can't help on the handle height really, it's not something i ever take issue with but overall the vista is a tall pushchair so check how well you can see in front of you with the seat on pf upright. Until recently i had a brio pram with the same frame and seat height and at 5'8" i had a reasonable blind spot in front.

I have had a twone, which shares the muum frame and wheels. I liked it a lot, I would say try to see and feel one though, imo there is a much more light and flighty feel to it than either of your other two choices, which some may like and some may dislike.

Thanks so much for your quick and detailed response. Was getting that anxious, first-day-at-school feeling and thought nobody might reply!! Hadn't thought about a potential blind spot issue with the Vista so thanks for the heads-up... will try it again and see if this is a problem.

The carry-cot not being so much of an issue with the versa is my gut feeling too having read how little parents can end up using them. The fold also seems excellent on the versa.

I think with the muum, if I can find somewhere that stocks them so I can try it out it will stay in the mix. We have a maxi-cosi and I'm aware we would not be able to use it with the Jane- but this would not be a deal-breaker.

If you live remotely near a kiddicare they should have have a muum.

I don't think the blind spot is a major problem btw, just something to be aware of... toddlers.. dogs.. heels of dh the people in front etc.

The Vista is a wide pushchair, if you have any tight access points in your life it might be worth double checking. Obviously it is well inside the width of a modern standard door but double doors, older properties etc sometimes cause problems.

I love the Vista (see the other Vista thread) but I am hesitant to recommend it to you because of your height. I think you will find it too tall for you to push. I am 3 inches taller than you and it was fine, but thats my only worry.

The Versa carrycot is fine - its solid and I have had my 2 year old in one just to check size out (fine). Its not dissimilar in build to the Vista one although the lining of the Vista carrycot is gorgeous.

Parties and I disagree a bit on the Muum...I know she likes it. I just dont like the fabrics and over all feel, although the fold is very neat and it seems to do the job well. I also prefer a pushchair with a proper footrest.

As for the Versa - I can't fault it really. I have had one now for something like hmm 8 months, and thats quite a long time for a pushchair to stay with me! Its got slightly less features than the Vista (not by much though), but is has the GT option and the fold really is what sells it to me. Excellent pushchair.

I've got one, its great. I'm 5'3 and I don't find the handle height an issue at all but I can see that some people do. It is quite wide, but its turning circle is tiny for a travel system. We looked at quinny and bugaboo systems and they felt too low for me so I guess I like high-up sturdier type pushchairs. DD loves being in the Vista and we used the carrycot for her to sleep in overnight from birth to 4 months. No need for a Moses basket! The built in sunshades are fab.DD hates the sun in her eyes so they have been great recently plus you don't have to constantly adjust and faff about with a Sun parasol which I've seen loads of people doing lately on the icandy etc. I love that I never have to carry anything as everything fits in the basket underneath, and I mean everything. I also love that the fabrics are machine washable.

The resale value on the Vista is excellent by the way, I've seen 2/3 year old models going on eBay for £400.

Thanks everyone -

This is all really reassuring. TBH, I'd be happy with either now having had those little niggles smoothed over. I'll probably do the final decision-making at JL in BW, so could easily pop into Kiddicare at LS at the same time to check out the Jane Muum, but my heart is already pretty set on one of the other two... can't be a coincidence that there are already other threads on the same models... DH, although reluctant to buggy-buy at all with me at first (shopping is not his bag!), was incredibly helpful in reaching the shortlist... I was surprised just how much he instantly hated the icandy for its thick handle!!

I hesitated between the versa and the vista (and the icandy strawberry). I had my heart set on the vista really until I saw it in flesh and realised it was simply too wide for me. Also it was fairly bulky when folded, I felt.
I ended up going with the versa, with parties and tiggy's help :)
I love it and have tried it with my DS who is 3.5 he had plenty of room. Now waiting for DC2 to make an appearance at the end of July.
