Hi,

Does anyone know whether you can use the car seat adaptor at the same time as the rear seat accessory?

Thanks Smile

I assume you mean the second seat conversion kit? I think it depends how fussy you are.
This photo shows the space the rear child will have. If you think your eldest will be happy sat so close to the seat in front, and that there's enough room for their knees and feet then, yes I think you could. Theres room on here for the child to parent face sat down though, or to stand. Does that help?

Thanks for answering tiggy, DS will be 20m when the new baby arrives so too young to use the bench seat and will have to be in the rear seat accessory which you can use at 6m...it doesn't look too spacious to me once the car seat is on, so I was wondering if anyone had one and had done it? Smile

The second seat kit actually gives more space for the oldest one at the back, because it faces forwards. I don't have my Joovy anymore for measurements & stuff but the bench seat slides back & forth, to give the most space to the rear seat it needs to be slid forwards, towards the front seat. However, the car seat adaptor needs the front seat to be in the slightly reclined position, which means the bench has to be slid back a bit. When you use the seat kit, the bench is pushed away from the front seat so the rear child has a fair bit more room. There are some pics on google of the rear seat with a car seat on too, I can't link from my tablet for you though, the only prob I had with the rear seat was when my ds got too heavy/enormously long legged to easily hoik into it.

I had a Joovy Caboose ultralight and always had the front seat fully upright with the maxi cosi car seat attached to make more room for the toddler on the rear seat it always worked really well. I did find the pushchair front heavy though it was quite hard to get up curbs

I have just had a Google and there's some good photos like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&sa=N&biw=1166&bih=786&hl=en&tbm=isch&tbnid=egZsu5rWuqs3wM:&imgrefurl=www.thriftyniftymommy.com/2012/08/introducing-joovy-caboose-too-seat.html&docid=fQ9T_dl6-HkO8M&imgurl=3.bp.blogspot.com/-ylV3j-gyRF8/UGxedTWCKiI/AAAAAAAAHns/swL7-YvRxqk/s1600/IMG_1623.JPG&w=800&h=533&ei=LHOqUe2UNIaa0AWB4ICgDw&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:1,s:0,i:84&iact=rc&dur=1320&page=1&tbnh=172&tbnw=256&start=0&ndsp=21&tx=166&ty=111" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here and here. The Too seat looks like it works better than the sliding bench with the car seat on :)

Thanks very much everyone, that's just what I wanted to know...the pictures are perfect tiggy thanks very much Smile

Would you recommend the buggy? My thoughts are that at 20m DS is too old for a normal double and this will be perfect with the rear seat on until they both get older and DS can hop on and off?

OK, I love the Joovy Ultralight - its great for older children although its a bit trolley like. However to be utterly honest, with your age gap, and a newborn, I would seriously be considering a good double pushchair. You will more than likely use it for a good year and if you buy well, and sell well, then you wont lose much, if any, money on it.
My feelings are that a baby shouldn't be in a car seat more than a very short period of time. The eldest, would probably still benefit from a good seat unit especially if they still nap. The Joovy is very exposed in winter ie the hood is a through hood, and I personally like my children to be more snuggly. The push is fine, but a proper double would be far better TBH to push and manoeuvre.
The Joovy is something I would recommend for someone maybe with a rising 3 year old and say a 9 month plus old baby. Its a lot of fun for an older one to hop on and off.
I dont know if you will be putting it in a car, but the fold is really long and you may wish to measure your boot.
Honestly - dont get it - buy a proper double and think about a Joovy in a years time.

If you don't want a normal double, want something a bit different or just think you won't get the use out of one (some people genuinely don't, it depends what you do and how and where you do it) then you could consider a sit down buggyboard for your 20m old such as a kidsit or easy x rider. The easy x rider is a much more enclosed seat with a lap belt, I had one last year and it was great for shorter distances.

shellsocks · 04/06/2013 20:15

Thanks ihate I think he is still a bit young for those, just goin on my friends DD who is 20m now...no way she would sit nicely on one of them! Also I'm due in Nov so think it might be a bit exposed for the cold weather?
