Bugaboo vs Mothercare Xpedior

Hello,

I'm pregnant with my first baby and a bit baffled by some of the pushchair/travel systems available... I like the look of a bugaboo cameleon, but think the price is insane (no offence!)- is there more to it that explains the popularity? Mothercare do a travel system that looks very similar, for much less money (the Xpedior). Has anyone got it? Is there something terrible about it that I can't see or wouldn't know about?

Any advice appreciated (I live in London, drive sometimes but will mainly use for walking locally and the occasional bus ride).

I had a feel of the expedior in mothercare the other day and it didn't feel as bad as I expected but without using one with a child in it it's very difficult to say.

Re the popularity of bugaboos - it's subjective, I don't know how to answer really. If you used both for a week I am sure you would come up with some differences, as to whether you felt those differences were worth the huge price difference or not only you can say. Differences of opinion on this stuff are huge. They are lovely to push, you can get used ones relatively cheaply and anecdotally many of the older models, frogs i particular have lasted families through a number of children, which is not a given with plenty of pushchairs tbh.

The best thing you can do, from a starting point of the features you need, how and where you plan to use a pushchair, is build yourself a list of priorities and essential features. From that build a list of models within whatever price range you feel is appropriate then go to see, push and feel as many as possible. An independant retailer might have a much broader range than mothercare for example and if you have a kiddicare near you they stock a huge amount.

As a recent bugaboo convert, I'd say the cameleon is worth every penny. The suspension is lush, the seat is comfortable and has an unusually upright seat which my toddler loves, it's better for napping than our previous cheaper pushchairs and generally fabulous to push. I didn't get it early enough to use the carry coy but I wish I had. I could have saved myself a lot of money that I spent on cheaper pushchairs of I'd just bought this first. Only downside for us is we have to take both back wheels off to get it in the car, but we can live with that given the more major downsides of other pushchairs we've owned. I'd get the bugaboo Grin

Excuse typos, am typing one handed on phone.

It is a pram. Agree it has an insane price and imho is a status symbol for some.

You need a pram for only a few months and than a buggy is fine ime. I had a M and P Sola which was great. Didn't evev need the carry cot option as it lies falt and with a liner was very comfy. also forward or rear facing which is great. Have a look at them. Nice design and not nearly as expensive as Bugaboos.

I think the difference is definitely in the build quality. A bugaboo will stand the test of time and the expedior may show signs of wear and need parts replacing quickly. if you intend to use it for more than one child I would definitely go for the bugaboo, well worth the money. The warranty and after service with bugaboo is excellent also.

i have a bugaboo frog, i bought it when ds2 was 18mths old...he is 11 next month. i have used it for four children and its still in great condition. covers etc all washable and nothing has broken on it at all. i got a new bumper bar after one child bit a chunk out of the foam on one but that was cosmetic.

seriously before the bugaboo i had a britax, a chicco, a mamas and papas and a mothercare pushchair... all pissed me off in some way or broke.

the bugaboo is a work horse, its dealt with snow, sand, mud, trains, buses, tube etc etc and is fab. i have the bugaboo buggyboard on it as well, its taken a beating and is still going strong.

expensive but for something you will use everyday and possibly for more than one child i think its worth it.

BTW I am not one to go in for fancy baby equipment, I had a basic cot. that non of them ever slept in , didn't have a baby bath or changing unit, no fancy nursery equipmemt etc. But a pushchair is worth researching and buying a good one, that and a good sling, I used a Moby wrap when mine were little.

My youngest is 28mths and still goes in the bugaboo and I with be having any more but don't want to part with it as we have had it so long it feels like part of the family Blush

Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate it. We'll definitely go and try them out and have a look at the Sola too...

Yeah same here, I didn't buy or use half the expensive stuff you're supposed to need with a baby. We also never bought a cot, a baby monitor, a steriliser, baby sleeping bags... Never even used a pushchair till around 15 months although with hindsight that was largely because the pushchairs we had before the bugaboo were shite to push. Also because I'm addicted to kissing DS on the head and you can do that better in a sling.

Hi Imnotbeverley

What did you go for in the end? I'm very tempted by the xpedior. Just not sure if it's too bulky for buses. Does any one have any thoughts on that?

Do not buy Motercare Xpedior!!!

It is the worse product of the century you can only use the car seat for a week! After that your baby squashes up inside and all he/she will do is cry and they won't even be able move their legs around as they like. It's a complete waste of money, and when I said this to the complaints department and that I wanted a refund for the car seat, they were the rudest customer service ever. Let alone giving you a refund they don't even answer your questions and keep making you repeat. Don't do it future parents!
