Baby jogger summit x3 - what else should we consider?

We are in the early stages of figuring out what pram to get and the BJS3 seems to be coming out on top. Our main criteria are:

All terrain (want to be able up walk through woods / along canal paths etc)
Able to jog with it
Push one handed (dog to control)
Decent storage underneath
Easy to fold down and pretty compact (will mostly be using a car - mazda 3 - and have a decent sized boot but space may be tight if we are trying to get the dog in there too)

There may be other criteria I am totally missing so please let me know if so - I feel so clueless at the moment!

I think the new summit is out in May but if you have the previous version how have you found it and should this one fulfil the above criteria? Can anyone suggest other prams we should be looking at?

Thanks!

The new summit looks great, tiggy and I saw it briefly earlier this year, are you looking for a newborn or older child?

There have been a good few jogging threads on here, might be worth a search through. Generally the larger wheels the better, baby over 6m and fixed front wheel feature heavily (there are bobs, a baby jogger, a nipper.. maybe a p&t unless i've made that up). Basically if serious running then a serious running stroller is probably safest, ie one with a fixed rather than lockable front wheel. Although people clearly do jog and beyond with a huge variety of pushchairs so opinion will vary on requirements i suspect. If it were me with your criteria i would probably pick a daily pushchair such as a Mountain Buggy Swift, City Mini Gt or even versa gt, concord wanderer, jane trider, something like that. Then have a separate buggy to run with.

That's me though, any excuse to try different things.

If you're looking for just one to do everything hmm summit, bob (not sure about newborn options though) mb terrain.. now i'm stuck.

We are hoping to use it from new born onwards - I know you can't run for first 6 months or so but want to avoid buying more than one if poss - limited storage in our house and obvious financial implications. If that is naive tho we would reconsider.

Thanks for the suggestions - will have a look at other options and also search for other threads on running to get some more input..

DaisyBell is the person you want. She lives in the middle of nowhere and uses her Summit on serious off road surfaces. She loves hers.

I would think it would meet your criteria well. Have a look too at the BOB pushchairs. They are just arriving in the UK and I have been surprised how good they are, and also how compact and light they are to carry around.

I certainly would be aiming for a pushchair meant for running with like the Summit, one of the Bob's or TFK Joggster Twist (or whatever the fixed wheel version is!).

Ooh fixed wheel tfk.. good shout, i'd forgotten about those. Reversible seat possibility too with the multi x carrycot thingy.

Not naive.. you just need to be accepting of certain things, such as dealing with a big pushchair at the times you need to be somewhere smaller indoors etc. Over time you may end up with a smaller more stroller type pushchair too but it really very much depends on the ins and outs of your daily life, which you have very clearly considered Smile

Great I will check out those other options too. Need to find a big pram shop somewhere - any suggestions for Milton Keynes area?

I think we may start out with just the one but if it's just too bulky for everyday use we can look into getting a smaller city one. It's just so hard to know what our life is going to be like after the birth :)

Just reading this thread. I was just checking out the Summit X3 also. I found a review of it buggypramreviews.co.uk/baby-jogger-summit-x3-review/ if that link works? The mountain buggy terrain is so expensive in comparison. Was in new york 2 weeks ago and they are almost exclusively using baby joggers. Says something doesnt it! It does look cool.

I do truly adore it. I love the fact that it will deal with ANYTHING you throw at it, but is also quite civilised ie I've taken it on a train before. I used mine for pooch walking too and found that very easy.

There's a set of pics on best buggy which are my summit and city mini together - the frames are identical. So if you pop the wheels off (really easy to do even if they're filthy) then its very compact for the car boot.

I got it when DD was 8 months, and I haven't had a second child. But if I did, I was planning to get the carrycot which would fit both the summit and the BJCM (although I struggled to find a retailer who had the carrycot in stock to let me try it on the summit).

Anything else summit related please shout!

Oh, the one addition I made was getting my dad to make a similar support board to that found in the BJCM. There's a pocket in the seat back, and DD seemed more comfortable with the board in place. But if I were running, I'd take it out.
