Britax Affinity views/reviews

Hi All,

This is my first post on mumsnet. I am interested in the Britax Affinity and would like to know whether anyone has this/thinking of purshasing/tested out.

I have a 4 month old and initially bought a graco fusio - brakes shrieked like mad, nightmare to attach to the chassis, difficult to fold etc. I am now looking to purchase another pushchair and prefer forward facing. Went to mothercare last week but they didn't have britax so was not able to test it out. It's a minefield. Checked out babystyle oyster but reviews not good.

Can anyone recommend britax or another pushchair. I have a smallish boot so it needs to be compact and lightweight will be ideal.

Thanks

The Britax Affinity seems really good. It certainly looks IRL like a much more expensive pushchair than it is. There is a lot of attention to detail in the fabrics, chassis and even things like the boot cover and changing bag. I was very impressed TBH and I would love one.
I didn't lift or carry it though.
The Graco Evo is really light - something like 6.5kgs and folds down small if you remove the seat.
The Bugaboo Bee is another lightish pushchair. But its not as solid as the others.
I believe the Silver Cross Wayfarer is light too. The fold isnt the smallest but its a lovely pushchair.

Thanks Tiggywunkle. The Britax does look really nice. I spent most of yesterday looking at pushchairs on the net. I can across the Babystyle Oyster Max - I think its stunning. Would love to get that and thee option to add a second seat is a great bonus. There are glowing reviews on bestbuggy and pushchairtrader. Have you got this or tested this out?

It's a lovely pushchair but does not fold small so check your boot if size is an issue. It's pretty chunky as it doesn't go very flat at all (56cm in the narrowest folded dimensions) although it's not heavy. Nice not to have to have a carrycot if you don't want to but still have the option if you do. It's a tandem though, it's tandem sized realistically speaking.

Personally I wouldn't want to push it as a single day in day out for a year or two before I even used it for two children but I can see the appeal if you think you would be happy to do that and can live with the size.

I do have a smallish boot. I have a Peugeot 206 but saying that the Graco Fusio did fit in no problem and that was chunky and heavy.
I am a novice with pushchairs and unfortunately did not initially realise how important it is to get it right. I just want something compact, lightish and easy to open/fold. We are planning a second bubs so hopefully if all goes well we will be needing a double.
Do you think a carrycot is needed for a 4 month old - almost 5? My DD has outgrown her moses and having checked the dimensions for the carrycot it is slightly bigger but not much so don't know whether we will get much use out of it. Also would it be cramped with a footmuff on the second seat? There's just so much to think about and I really don't want to get anything and regret it afterwards.
Mothercare and John Lewis nearest to me do not have this in stock at the moment so cannot go and have a play, which is a shame.

Measure your boot definitely, the width and length of the fold aren't abnormally large, the depth is, then you need to fit the seats in too. We have an ibiza estate and it did fit but not easily, in the hatch version it would be a struggle. There might still be a pic on my profile of it actually.
Where your fusio folds in both directions, the max only folds sort of in half.

You wouldn't need a carrycot as the seat lies flat on the oyster max, it's not a compact single though.

Thanks Ihateparties. I see what you mean about the measurements now. Will definitely measure my boot as I'm quite doubtful it will fit, and as you quite rightly pointed out, the seat(s) will also need to go in. Although looking to change my car towards the end of the year as had it 8 years and also now need something bigger - that's another dilemma!!!
Good to know a carrycot isn't needed - was quite confused as to whether the main seat was suitable from birth.

So far as I know it is.. the babystyle website will probably have that info for certain.

If you are in and out of the car quite a lot then it's maybe not the best choice for right now, perhaps down the line it would work for you when you have a bigger car etc.

Of the small pushchairs about at the moment I would be most tempted by the new silver cross wayfarer but the bee gets really good reviews and people do love them. A jane muum might be a contender, lie flat reversible seat, the fold is the best with the seat parent facing, which is great for the car as you don't have to take it apart all the time.

I'm also interested in the new maxi cosi loola, the fold on that looks great and the lie flat seat is massive.

I love the Oyster Max - its fab! Yes the fold is a bit chunky, but you can slide one seat between the chassis somehow. I find its easier to have one seat open and the other closed on top. Otherwise the two seats slide against each other and simply dont stay put! Like 2 eggs!
The chassis is also thinner at one end which used to slide under the lip of our car boot nicely.
The upper / main seat is suitable from birth as it lies flat.

Hi. I've ordered mine on the baby plan at mothercare. I originally had put a deposit down on the oyster, then after reading consistently bad reviews I decided to go to mothercare and have a look. The affinity jumped straight out, it looked beautiful, I assumed it would be a really expensive pram. I had a push round and it felt amazing.luckily I still had time to change my order and it had 15% off (not sure if it still does). It's a little more expensive than oyster but seems worth it. Really sturdy but smooth and easy to manoeuvre. They said in mothercare it comes with a newborn insert so the seat can be used from birth (I do prefer a proper carrycot but trying to save as much money before I go on mat leave so can do without :-( )
All in all I'm really impressed by it and cannot WAIT to get it. If you prefer forward facing there is the b agile which is a lot cheaper and lighter weight (this can be used with a carrycot if you want and also britax car seat) I am going to buy this second hand as my second pushchair for dog walking etc. I know this is light weight and folds very small. Also britax have just literally last week bought another that is similar to b agile but with better suspension and air filled wheels, and apparently better seat unit than b agile (ppl have found the front strap too far forward so found older babies slumping forward when sat up) that is called b motion.
I really wanted to get that instead of b agile but won't be second hand in time for me having baby, so can't justify buying two new pushchairs lol. Hope that helps x x

Hi,

My Brittax Affinity has just arrived, so a first look at the newborn insert. I see that this fits instead of the colour pack seat liner - but what about the cosy toes? Can I still fit them with the newborn insert?

Thanks for your help :)

Tiggywunkle · 06/10/2013 21:01

Yes it fits with the newborn insert. Theres loads of photos here 6-8 rows down which should show you how.
Its a lovely pushchair. One of the nicest I have used.
