Mountain Buggy Duet, iCandy Peach Blossom Peach 2, or something else entirely?!

Oh wise ladies of the pushchair threads - can you help me!?!?

I am looking for a double/twin/tandem buggy but have a whole host of requirements (mainly to accommodate my disability) and I'm struggling to find the right match.

DC1 will be 22 months when DC2 arrives. DC1 is tall and broad for her age and to quote the sonographer at yesterday's scan, DC2 is currently "off the scale" for some measurements - eek!

I don't mind if they are side by side or tandem but I do need the handlebar to be as high as possible (at least 105cms) or potentially alterable with some cunning diy as I have very short arms, but I'm also quite tall (5'8"). Ideally I'd like a versatile pushchair that can go anywhere (town, shops or walks). And I need it to be relatively easy to fold/lift into/out of a car boot (VW Golf). One seat needs to be suitable from birth or if it takes a carrycot, so much the better.

In terms of storage/getting it in and out of the house, it needs to be narrower than about 68cms (so that rules out the Out & About 360 and the Baby Jogger doubles).

I've tried things like the Phil & Teds, which is brilliant in all ways except that I find if I'm close enough to reach the handlebar, I'm treading on/bashing into the second seat.

So far, the best options seem to be the MB Duet (good all-round, v narrow and manoeuvrable, takes carrycot BUT I'm worried the seats are a bit narrow and it's very heavy/bulky to lift when folded), and the iCandy Peach Blossom 2 (easy to push, easy to lift in and out of car once dismantled, takes carrycot BUT wheels probably not suitable for off-road and again, is the seat a bit small)?

Can you help and advise me!?!?!

Hmmm okay, some people will continue with the idea that the seat is too small on the peach, it really depends on what you class as too small I suppose. The hood slides up, the liner comes out, I have seen VERY much older children in them looking absolutely fine. Personally don't think it's suitable for off road though, I struggled with rough urban terrain as it crashes to a halt at small kerbs 1" ish so needed to do a lot of tipping.

Have also had a duet, obviously the seats are what they are, they are fairly narrow but again I have seen older children in no problems, again perception, what is acceptable to you etc.

TFK Joggster Twist with Multi X carrycot and Buddy seat? Potential issues though the buddy seat doesn't recline so unless your elder dc would be happy to sleep upright if and when sleep is required then that could be a problem. Also I realised recently how heavy the joggster twist is. Like the peach though you would take it apart to put in the car or at least take the multi x off as the buddy seat appears to fold in situ. Which incidentally is quite cool really.

I'm off to check the handlebar height... worth a google though probably to see if you think it might suit.

Thanks ihate parties! Very interesting thoughts. I'm off to google the TFK joggster now.

Anyone else?

Ihateparties · 05/03/2013 14:20

Goldfish like memory span... I forgot already here it says 70-130cm on the handle height so you should be able to find a comfortable position without shinning yourself on the buddy seat... I think. Not sure where you could go to see one, I haven't seen one locally.

The PB2 and the Duet are both good options, I was just trying to think of a few more really. Your eldest might be a little young for a sibling seat like the buddy seat, I don't know. Depends on the child perhaps.

Oooh, I hate. The joggster twist looks like my dream buggy! I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm going to come across the same issue i have with the P&Ts though that I tread on the buddy seat if I'm close enough to reach the handle, but i'm definitely going to find one to try!!

Name change fail btw - never mind!

Ihateparties · 05/03/2013 14:42

I did wonder about the name change but just rolled with it Smile

Okay, one more try - Jane Twone. There is lots of room for a long stride so it has the potential to work for you. I'm 5'8" with I think fairly average length arms and I'm never anywhere near the lower seat. It's very different with the carrycot on though, you'd almost certainly kick that... but I just saw a good pic on ebay here that gives a good illustration.

Do not go with the mb duet (the one behind the other)
I'm a nanny, baby wasn't very big. & didn't last long at all in the first bit.

Of all the mb's, it's one that I think is really badly designed. And I'm a huge fan of mb's!!

Good luck with ur buggy hunt!!

I think with the P+T you can have the 2nd seat on the front can't you- but not sure for how long that works for.

Tiggywunkle · 07/03/2013 23:52

Raspberry's I think you mean the +One, not the Duet. The +One is amazing for two older toddlers, but I agree that it doesn't work well for a newborn and toddler. Its one of my favourite pushchairs.

I have seen the peach blossom 2, my friend came with me to try out the pushchairs as she is due her second (me my first, I'm getting an iCandy strawberry - excited!) she has a 2 1/2 year old boy and her second little boy is due in 2 months. she popped her oldest in the pushchair and he had loads of room (no liner and hood up,) one thing that shocked me was just how light it felt to push (please remember this is the only experience I have had with it) however from testing it out and putting her son in it (in both positions so when new baby can go into seat they can change positions if needed) it was a dream. The handle bar goes up quite far as well, I am only 5'3 but my friend is 5'7 and she looked very comfortable with it. What ever you do try to have fun with trying the pushchairs out because it can get stressful lol!
