Questions for those of you with P&T explorer with doubles kit and cocoon...

I am currently bidding for one of these on eBay as DC 2 arrives next month. dS will be 2.6.

Unless I'm missing something, it seems that you don't actually secure the baby in the cocoon or the cocoon in the pushchair. Is this right and, if so, is this ok or does it feel like the baby is rolling around unsupported in there?

Also, do you think the double seat will be comfortable enough for a leggy toddler?

I have an old P&T sport with cocoon, though not using it with cocoon now. But, yes, you don't secure your baby in the cocoon - I don't think you do in any pram, do you? The baby lies in the cocoon, and you zip up the cover, so only their head is sticking out really.

You do secure the cocoon to the pushchair though. On mine there are two straps with clips that clip to the cocoon. It's pretty secure.

I've used the P&T for two lots of children (DC1 and DC2, then DC2 and DC3). The front seat is roomy and still comfortable for a 3-4 year old IME. However the back seat is not that roomy. My not-quite-2-year-old looks a bit squashed in, though that's because I've still got a cosytoes in there. Without the cosytoes I think it would last to 3-ish but not a 4yo.

The cocoon clips to the seat, but baby is unsecured inside. I've been using mine since birth with my relatively small dd2 and it's fine. She's always wrapped in a blanket or snowsuit then zipped into thr cocoon so she stays put. It might be different in warmer weather with a small baby, they might roll around more with thinner clothing. Dd1 is 2.8 and tall. She fits in the second seat mounted on the front in all her winter clothes, but if she gets much taller I won't be able to put the sun hood over her. Once dd2 is 6mo though, she won't be using the lie flat cocoon and can go on the second seat fixed on the back, and dd1 can have the bigger main seat.

Thanks both, that's reassuring on both points!

Btw both my babies who went in the cocoon were summer babies - no problem for them either. I had a little zip-up sleeping bag thing that they went in inside the cocoon (from mothercare I think) and just put them in that.

Ooops just realised what those clips were for - never secured my cocoon in, luckily it never came off tho!

Ha, mrsmandm - i often think there are probably several things I should be fastening that i don't on all my various prams and pushchairs. The cocoon is quite secure in there anyway, I think, but the straps are an extra security - esp when bumping pram down steps/off buses etc.
