Joovy caboose ultralight or nipper 360 double

Hi there
I am expecting dc2 in April and dc1 will be 2 yrs old. I will need to get a pushchair that works for both as will take to nursery which is a half hour walk. I would like a pushchair that is lightweight and compact. I don't like the ones that seem to crush in older dc on bottom.

So I think I've narrowed down to either Joovy Caboose Ultralight or Nipper 360 double. Does anyone have any experience with either and can you recommend? Or does anyone have any alternative suggestions?

Currently I'm thinking the Joovy is the one to go with.....

Thanks in advance.

Probably the Nipper - although its got huge harnesses for a newborn.
I think there are better side by sides though for a newborn.

I wouldn't choose the Joovy for two reasons. First of all its like a trolley to push - fine for tootling around with but for a half hour walk (one way or two ways?) I think something with better wheels would be nicer. Also the baby will be in the car seat for 30 mins per journey which really is longer than a newborn should be in a car seat for. I wouldn't say its compact folded either, and neither is the Nipper although both aren't bad when open.

I think I would be suggesting you look at the Bumbleride Indie Twin or the Baby Jogger City Mini GT as well.

Thanks tiggywunkle. We had baby jogger single first time around. I'm just not sure if toddler would throw tantrums at a regular pushchair style. It's half an hour 1 way to nursery though so needs must!

How about a Mountain Buggy +One. With your age gap it might work especially if your toddler isn't that keen on a pushchair and may well scoot or walk some of the way in the coming months. You need to read up about it though.
I certainly wouldn't have a baby in the car seat for 2 hours a day though...every day. I have been learning about how a baby needs to be laid flat to allow their lungs to expand fully and for their organs to grow hence why laid flat is recommended. A car seat is fine for odd journeys, but not 2 hours regularly a day. I believe for a newborn the recommended time is only something like 30 mins. I must stress though, people have to make journeys of over 30 mins, but its not one off journeys thats important, but regular journeys, day in day out which can affect development.

Would something like a Mutsy Evo with sit down stroller board be better maybe?

Thanks tiggywunkle. I'm finding making my mind up really hard. It's a lot of money for us so we need to make sure we make the right choice! Another person mentioned about newborns lying flat and that's something I'm not wanting to take a chance with.

I'm know thinking about the oyster max tandem or baby jogger city select tandem. Both are a lot out of budget but could maybe try to save. Although I like the mountain +one it is a bit too much for us and I do worry that dc on bottom may become a bit too enclosed with front seat reclined. Our max was £400 but it may be we need to try and come up with £500.

This is a tough choice!

I walk a lot and recently got one of these that i'm ridiculously happy with. I have been playing about with seating configurations to find a good way of carrying a newborn. Today I finally got it but you need some sort of wedge such as a smartmuff and you need to be happy for your newborn to face forwards. Also the toddler seat doesn't recline so any sleeping has to be done sitting up.On the plus side the main seat is reversible so when you just have the baby with you it's a single pram without looking or feeling big and daft.

These are ifs but the price is amazing and it's actually nice to push. I have used plenty of much more expensive tandems but this is holding its own so far and is actually my favourite of all of them for balance of features.

Oh... it only comes in purple seemingly.. which didn't put me off but i sense it might others!

I had a Joovy caboose ultralight. It was light and lovely to push on flat surfaces, small, perfect buggy, but it was front heavy and hard to get up curbs

Colliecollie · 05/03/2013 21:16

The Joovy is not compact. It is very long and therefore quite difficult to steer and get up kerbs etc.

noisytoys · 05/03/2013 21:21

The original is not compact. The ultralight is tiny

Ah, sorry, I had the ergo caboose, not ultralight, and i don't recommend the ergo, I sold mine on very quickly.

Hi tweet
I have a nipper double, when my twins were newborns I had 2 PHIL and Teds cocoons which clipped into the seat (harness straps thought the handles) and meant they could lie flat and be lifted in and out. They were super snug and always slept really well in them. But not sure how well the nipper is designed for 2 different ages in general though.

The Ergo Caboose is HORRIBLE!! LOL
I totally could not control it at all. Thankfully it was relatives that I eventually ran head first into, who rescued me!!

The Ultralight in comparison is lovely!
