Best tyres - air filled or foam filled?

Please could someone who has experience of both help me?

I've currently got a Bugaboo Cameleon and a Maclaren so am very happy with foam filled.

I've got to get a double in the next few months - something I'm bound to need further help with - but in my initial research I've found that some of the buggies I'm considering have air tyres and I'm a bit confused.

eg why have Bugaboo put air tyres on the Donkey when they introduced foam filled in the 2nd Cameleon model onwards

Is there any advantage to having air filled? Do you find you have to pump them up all the time? Do you get lots of punctures?

I've heard you can slime (?) the tyres to stop punctures but if people do that then why do manufacturers bother with air filled?

Many thanks

I think true off road pushchair snobs would always say air filled are the best for a great push. There's no doubt that some of the best pushchairs I have pushed have air tyres - I can't dispute that. However I can't be faffed with slime and punctures (never had a puncture yet though thank goodness) and would always choose a foam filled wheel for hassle free pushing. So it depends really how fussy you are TBH. I dont think it really makes that much difference until you get into the realms of pushing two heavy toddlers....and even then, the pushability is about more than just the tyres eg weight distribution, angle of the handlebar etc.

Air filled with puncture proof inners.

Air filled is quicker and not so hard to push. Foam filled is what you wish for when fooking air filled springs a puncture in the middle of nowhere.

I've got a phill and teds for sale? Anyone?

Thanks everyone
Think I'll go for the easy option then Smile
Now to decide between tandem and side by side - this is going to take forever!

It probably will, and once you have decided, I bet your needs change as your children grow! Treat a double as a rental, and expect to change it ;)
