Best pram for twins on public transport?

Sorry, bit of a cross-post from the multiples board.

We just found out we're having twins, and I'm freaking out about how we'll get around! We don't have a car and aren't keen to get one, so I'm wondering what the best pram would be for carting twins around the Kingston/Richmond area in SW London. I've been eyeing the Bugaboo Donkey since I like the side-along style and versatility of the seats, but will it be a nightmare for public transport and shopping? Plus, it seems much thinner than other side-by-side models. The icandy Peach looked nice, but I'm not sure about having one baby stuck down in a cave all the time, and it seems like a hassle that the carrycots don't fold down... but then, maybe it's worth putting up with the style if it's easier to get around?

What is your experience with twin prams on public transport? I see mums with prams on buses all the time around here, but don't know if it will be worse with twins... It's not like I'll be able to easily collapse anything with 2 infants!

Recommendations would be much appreciated.

Hi
Congratulations! I have 15 mo twins and live in Richmond. I would definitely not get a donkey if you plan on getting on buses or going into any shops! I have an icandy peach - I got the original one but then upgraded to the 2012 version and would definitely recommend it. The child in the lower seat has a great view out of the sides and I tend to alternate my two to make it fair.

Also icandy hold their value well and you will be able to sell off the carrycots etc and the whole system once you've finished with it

Oh and wrt folding down the pram - I probably got on buses 4-5 times a week during my maternity leave and have never once had to fold it down - even if it was a one piece fold you'd struggle to carry the two babies as well. Buses are just so frequent round here it's never been necessary

I do have a side by side umbrella fold for holidays as well as I didn't want my lovely shiny pram getting wrecked on the plane and on the beach Grin

I would look at the iCandy Peach Blossom 2 - the new one as ceeveebee says above because the seat spacing is much better.
Look also at the Babystyle Oyster Max which is hitting shops this week.
Otherwise consider something like a Mountain Buggy Duet or Baby Jogger City Mini Double.

Linguaphile have you decided yet? How is your research going?

I'm only just tentatively starting to look at double buggies. Expecting twins in August and, like you I live in London (zone 2) and have no car. We walk/bus/tube everywhere. I know that I won't be using the tube on my own as neither of the stations near us have step free access so will rely on buses.

I really want a BJCM but DH is convinced that an in-line buggy will be better for buses however I am only 5'4'' and I have read that they tend to be heavy and hard to manoeuvre for shorter people.

If anyone has any further ideas they would be gratefully received!!
