Need help in the pushchair jungle!

Am expecting my 2nd DS after 6 years but as I still have the travel system for the first time round I'll be using the car seat and pram part from that. However I thought I might treat myself to a new pushchair as the one I've got used to irritate me quite a lot. Started looking online and I'm so confused - don't even know where to start - too much choice!!Basically I'm looking for one that will be used from 3-6mths plus (when he grows out of the pram) so still needs to go flat for sleeping, able to steer and put down with one hand(easily),has a decent basket and would last well into toddler years. Budget would probably be around £250. Any suggestions just to get me starting to look would be so helpful!

I don't have any pushchair advice sorry (although someone will be along in a minute to tell you to buy a Babyjogger CM Grin) but you are likely to need a new car seat - most only have a 5 year life before they recommend throwing them away, which is why the £200 maxi cosi 2nd stage seat that I bought for dd1 that is sitting in my loft will have to be replaced when dd2 grows out of her infant carrier. There may be an expiry date/manufacturing date on the seat under the cover. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it may affect your pushchair choice.

Thanks for replying. Not that I don't believe you but why on earth would a car seat have an expiry date?? Confused Is it maybe if it's had 5 years continuous use? You've intrigued me now, I'm off to the garage to have a look! Smile

I think that the plastic degrades so cracks can appear, particularly if it's been stored somewhere where the temperature changes frequently (like a car Wink) I read it on here, like you I had no idea! If you look on the maxi cosi website I think it's there under FAQs.

Well I just went through to OH who's working in the other room and asked if he knew that and he said "yeah, they're like helmets are they not, need changing every few years"!! Eh, why didn't you think to mention that as we'll be bringing home a newborn in about 5 weeks?! We did have a second car seat that we bought later that could also be used for newborns, although we didn't. Will now have to go and hunt that out and see what it's like. That was an expense I hadn't planned!

Sorry! It's like everything in this country related to car seats - the lack of information about such a vital product is ridiculous Angry

LOL I will say it then - a Baby Jogger City Mini - although more seriously probably I would say try to stretch to a Versa for use after 6 months.

LubyLu2000 · 14/01/2013 15:34

Well back from the garage and the carseat I thought we could maybe use is actually broken Angry and I can't see any date on the original baby one we used. Mind you I live in Italy where loads of kids still don't go in carseats (mamma's arms are safer than any seat Wink) so if I ask anyone round here about car seats expiring they'll just think I'm mad. The pram part of the travel system is in perfect condition though so I don't really want to buy a whole travel system again. Right off to look at carseats online now (and the baby jogger city mini!).
