Compact town buggy for a tall mummy

Hi, I have a rubbish cheap buggy from Kiddicare that I hate, the only plus point is that it folds up really small. I'm after a new one for this baby - I'm 5 10 so want one with decent length handles, lie back, rubber not plastic wheels that actually go in the direction they are meant to - unlike my heap of s*!!!

Recommendations please.

I'm tall (5.11) and use and icandy apple. It is easy to steer and you can buy the additional carry cot for the newborn days (the seat that comes with it can be used until child is around 3/4 I think). The extendable handle is great, even when I have heels on (I know, a mum who wears heels, who would've thought it!?!)

However, it doesn't fold small. It is two separate pieces although the chassis part does stand up on its own and is small(ish).

I love my bugaboo bee. Fits in the boot of my mini and is comfortable for my 6 ft2 husband

Thanks for your reply Fadbook. Fold up small is a must for me as it will live in the car - I live really rurally and have a great off road buggy but it's too big to get in my boot with all the other stuff. Extendable handle though... great idea, I wonder if many other brands have them..?

Baby Jogger citi mini suits me (5'5") and DH (6'5"). Super easy fold, very manoeuvrable. Pushchair seat only forward facing (new Versa does both ways) but with a carrycot to start with you have the parent facing. 4 wheel version is better than 3 wheel IMO.

I am the same height as you and my McClaren is perfect. It has extendable handles, folds up small and lies flat from birth. Not the sexiest buggy in the world I know.

I am 6ft1 and loved my Maclaren Techno (dd is now 10 so we are going back a while) but worth doing if they do a newer version?
Folded up small, was lightweight but brilliant. In fact dd preferred it to our pram...

Baby Jogger City Mini here too.

You don't tread on the wheels when you walk fast :)

Rebecca75 · 04/01/2013 21:32

Does the babyjogger fold flat or is it more like the McLaren fold (is that called umberella fold?). It does look good but quite pricey - I forked out a lot of money for my home buggy and travel system so quite loathe to pay looooads for my town buggy, although what a bonus not to tread on the wheels when walking around - another thing I hate about my cheap and nasty one!!

Flat. find a video of it folding and you will buy it.

TBH I got a really good deal on mine when Halfords sold off the old stock, I'm not sure I'd have got it otherwise.

TeaandHobnobs · 04/01/2013 21:50

Flat fold - really flat! You could probably pick up a cheaper second hand one?

Baby Jogger City Mini / GT

I'm five foot eight, DH is six foot six so i did a LOT of research on buggies for tall parents while pg Grin

We have the Maclaren XT Techno which is a lightweight umbrella fold - the handles are adjustable. I used it once DD was over a year as for me, it felt too flimsy for a newborn (DD is my PFB!).

We have the iCandy Apple as our main pushchair- but it folds small enough to fit in the boot of our Focus with room for small amounts of shopping too. Ot's pricey brand new but ...There are often bundles on eBay!

The baby jogger buggies always get good reviews, a friend has the double one and has been very pleased with it!

DoIgetastickerforthat · 05/01/2013 01:23

I'm 5ft9 and have just bought a Maclaren XLR from here which comes with a carry cot and cosy-toes (and is about £150 cheaper than Mothercare).

I had a Maclaren XT previously and although they are perhaps not the most stylish of pushchairs, they are practically perfect.

Rebecca75 · 05/01/2013 18:41

Thanks ladies for all your advice. I have just got a practically brand new maclaren xt techno off of ebay for just under £100 so quite pleased with myself and looking forward to offloading my cheapy one.

Happy mummy!!!
