hmmm this is always a tricky one, do you need to carry the lot upstairs or can leave the frame somewhere at ground level?

FergusSingsTheBlues · 01/01/2013 20:32

I am leaving the frame downstairs...nobody will mind, i already leave a folded buggy tucked well in. Got chicco from last time but the carrycot was dreadfully heavy...need lightness and compact pram above all else!

My immediate thoughts given you can leave the frame (maybe the seat too?)downstairs, would be a Baby Jogger City Versa. The chassis will slide into even a tiny gap - mine is stuffed in a few inches down the side of my desk - I have about 10 inches because I was sad and just measured it for you!! The actual pushchair / chassis isn't desperately light, but the seat unit would be easy to carry up, and it can take either a carrycot, or a car seat.
The Baby Jogger Glider board fits brilliantly well at least in seat mode - I haven't tried / seen it in carrycot mode - and the glider board folds up still attached when the pushchair is folded - so even better for you!!

Other options could be a Baby Jogger City Select. Folded, it too is flat as anything! I used to hang the chassis and seats up from pegs. Thats a tandem. It would also fold with both seats on should that be a possibility (better with a 2010 version though), and it forms a nice neat chunk. The carrycot was fine to carry but I didn't have to go up two flights of stairs.

Or finally, have a look at the Micralite Twofold which offers some really fab options to take you through all the stages from newborn and toddler to two toddlers. Micralites freestand well. The second seat would store with it and there is a carrycot too. I dont know how heavy the carrycot is.

One final one - look at the Mutsy Evo - there's bags of space for a toddler board, and its fairly cheap and can be used with or without the carrycot as the seat lies flat.
Would you also maybe sling the baby to carry it up the stairs, or consider a lighter cocoon?

Bebe confort Loola or Loola up?

Ihateparties · 01/01/2013 21:27

i'm with tiggy, a versa would be great. i kind of have to ask tho, do you plan to revert to buggy again later on? If so then a big outlay isn't always the best thing. I had an icandy cherry when i lived upstairs, very light indeed. The jane muum chassis freestands very well and is light, buggyboard compatible etc but jane carrycots are pretty expensive.

Brilliant, thanks for the advice. Only a mumsnetter would go to the effort of measuring for me! I intend to use carrycot as kong as needed, but i went to the carseat when able as the carrycot was too much for me. If i could put him straight into a carseat i would! Very interested in the one which folds down flat.

Im having nightmares about managing two kids up and down, but couldnt face the hassle of moving and house us decorated just as we wanted it!

Get yourself a sling. I found it invaluable with two when dd was a newborn. I live on the first floor and had a 2.2 year old. Once she was older I used an umbrella fold pushchair.

forevergreek · 01/01/2013 21:44

i would say a bugaboo bee. and sling baby up the stairs. its light enough you can take whole frame up if needed, fits car seat on, and great with buggy board. as theres no carrycot and just the newborn cocoon, if you get stuck out longer/ further than expected then cocoon will roll up into basket and 2 year old can sit in seat fine and baby in sling.

Loola or quinny. ...not sure u can have a buggy board on a quinny. ....as a pushchair addict I've had loads loolas have been a personal favourite. There not 2 expensive But if u don't mind second hand they sell for peanuts. Love them

Ihateparties · 01/01/2013 22:56

i too would get a sling in your situation if you don't already have one. Depends how much if at all your 2 yo will need to go in a buggy. Something both children can go in at a moments notice could be very useful. Which means lie flat seat - bee, mutsy evo, graco evo (hmmm why all the identical names??). I suspect it will be easier up and down 2 flights of stairs to sling the baby so you can hold the elder ones hand, that would be a lot more difficult to do whilst carrying a baby in a carrycot, however light.

katieemariee · 05/09/2014 14:08

I'm due in 2 weeks I already have a pram buts it's so big and heavy I can only go out if I'm with someone that can help me. What pram does anyone recommend for me and my newborn so I can get up and down 2 flights of stairs on my own. Thankyou

TribbleWithoutATardis · 07/09/2014 22:14

Katie honestly, sling and a backpack would work best for you. Otherwise, city mini or maclaren techno. You'd have to fold and cart up the stairs, hence the sling suggestion which I think will cause you less agro.
