Bulk buying prams

So my friend an I are both pregnant, we also each have a friend that is pregnant making 4 potential pram buyers. I watched a programme called bulk buy Britain during the summer. The guy was convinced that joining forces and buying together consumer's could get the product cheaper. Has anyone done this before with a retailer? If so what kind of discount were you able to achieve?

Is there anyone else in the Manchester area that is looking to buy a pram before the end of Jan? I'm working on the idea the more people the bigger the potential discount!

The chances of you all needing exactly the same pram and agreeing on one model are pretty slim.
Watch out for the 20% off mothercare code thats about as good a deal as you'll find. I used to own a pram shop and the mark up was 30% so unless you have the buying power of mothercare or john lewis i doubt you'll be in a strong position to negotiate even with an independent retailer.

I think kiddicare website do discounts if you bulk buy. Not sure how much cheaper it makes it and I think you'd all have to buy the exact same pram.

I think the chances of you all agreeing on the same pushchair are minimal. A pushchair is a very personal choice and you really need to look at what each of you requires rather than cost. Your car, home, access to your house, car seat, where you go, what you do etc. will all influence. Then you have to find someone to agree to give you a discount too.
Which pushchair are you interested in?

Hi

We are looking at a Baby Jogger City Versa with a Maxi Cozi Pebble and isofix. We have done the looking at car size and usage bit and our friends are about to do the same. A new pram is a big expense and having done all the research I want to try and get that down as much as possible. I work in an industry without fixed margins and I think pram retailers are similar. Having decided on ours I rang three stockists and managed to shave £150 off the price originally quoted. I'm a big follower of Martin Lewis! So having done that I thought I would ask if they would be willing to do a further deal if we bought 4 prams.

I don't think it will matter that much if we want different ones. As long as the retailer stocks the ones we want, they are still making a sale. I'll let you know if we have any success or if I'm just hitting and hoping!

I think you'll have more success with a fairly small retailer than a large one for bulk buying but don't expect it to make a huge difference to the pushchair price, more the carseats. But the best deals are generally at Mothercare with a 20% off code, as Mosman says, or Boots when they have a 10-20% code and a good points offer. Most retailers also do cashback through the likes of Quidco so this tends to work out the cheapest in my far too vast experience of trying to find cheap pushchairs.

Tiggywunkle · 01/01/2013 22:09

Great choice of pushchair :) Good luck!

Mosman · 02/01/2013 00:16

There aren't fixed margins except with certain brands and I believe baby jogger you'd be ok with. There is still a bottom line below which its not worth selling it to you especially with prams as they can and do go wrong and it only needs to be returned to the manufacturer once to wipe out any profit.
If you get 20% off you'll be doing very well

Have you tried www.online4baby.com/. They are already very cheap and also advertise multiple purchase savings on their sidebar. Might be worth the ask??

peanutMD · 04/01/2013 20:29

Babies R Us currently have a 20% off code on everything in their website, the Versa and Pebble works out at £416.

The Isofix base is £94.99 but is out of stock online.

TheTiger · 04/01/2013 20:38

Have you tried Lester's Nursery World in Cheetham Hill? Does great discounts and seems to be the cheapest. It's a little shop, but everyone I know who knows about it, raves about it!

Angelsoph85 · 05/01/2013 16:40

Hi thank you all for your great tips.

Just looking at Babies r us, it would be great with the 20% off. Do you know what the link is, I can't find the code for the 20% off anywhere? Thanks

Also interested in the 20% off code. Dont forget mothercare price match (got my isofix base for £60 matched from amazon!)

peanutMD · 05/01/2013 18:05

The code is 20JANH :)

It's a bit of a drive but try Cheshire prams in widnes, just of the m62. They really helped us out and I'm always happy to recommend them.
