Quinny Zapp sized pushchair suitable from birth? Ideally with carrycot

Hiya

Friend is expecting DC1 and starting to think about pram options, she has a Renault Modus which has quite a small boot. I have some Zapp wheels I use with Maxicosi for quick trips out with DD(3months) and friend likes how small it folds up.

I know you can get a new Zapp now suitable from birth, but it doesn't look that cosy for a newborn.

Are there any other systems friend should look at, which fold up nice and small? Boots doesn't seem much larger than on my old Ford Ka.

I heard of a petite star one which may fold small but cannot tell from website how seat unit works or how small it folds, also wondered about a Maclaren with the carrycot add-on.

Any thoughts please?

Cheers

The Petite Star Zia is very similar to the Zapp but does fold longer than the Zapp although it is still small.

The seat unit on the Zia fully reclines so is suitable from birth. You can get a soft carrycot for it and a car seat too as a set for around £300.

Theres the new Petite Star Zia Evolve as well with the pramette part. I used a Zapp Xtra from my baby being very young. I put a Bugaboo Cocoon inside it and it was great. The only thing is that Zapp chassis' from new can be very stiff. I often say to get an older loose chassis, and buy the Xtra seat for the top. If you use the car seat and seat unit, then buy two chassis' and use one for each purpose because the pesky Xtra Seat adaptors are very easily lost! Its better to leave them permanently attached.

Thanks for the replies, will point friend at Petite Star Zia and the Evolve, and the Zapp extra. Didn't think of adding a non-Quinny coccoon to the Zapp, great idea, ta.

Does the adaptor thing also apply to using a regular Zapp and its seat versus Maxi Cosi seat? I have only used my chassis so far with carseat, and not the seat it came with.

Cheers.

The Zapp has the chassis and the fabric which you attach onto the chassis. The fabric needs removing to use the car seat.
The Zapp Xtra is the frame, plus a framed seat which has its own set of adaptors. You need to interchange these seat adaptors with the car seat adaptors and believe me, not losing them was a nightmare. DH in particular was always putting them down somewhere weird. Theres nowhere to store them. And yes, we did eventually lose them, and they cost us the same as a second hand Zapp chassis to replace!! We sold it after that because we knew we would lose them again!

Do you know what your friends budget is? There are some great reviews over on Pushchair Trader , they also have buggies in boots on there somewhere, and did a group buggy test. They also have a facebook page, if you post a question on there you should get loads of response from pramaholics Smile

What about the Phil and Teds Smart Buggy with Peanut carrycot?

Thanks Tiggywunkle I see what you mean now, and I would definitely have trouble not losing them too!

CordeliaChase thanks I will find out friend's budget and point her at the Pushchair Trader, the buggies in boots thing sounds perfect. Love the thought of a "pramaholic" :)

MyMelody I will look at the Smart buggy too, thanks!
