Baby Jogger City Versa - too good to be true?

I've been looking at pushchairs and the BJC Versa seems to tick all the boxes but just looks too good to be true. Anyone out there had one and disliked it and if so, what was wrong with it?

Anyone have an opinion on the Versa and public transport?

I have a Triumph for commuting but occasionally use my Bee+ on my local bus routes.

The Versa is a bit wider and longer than the Bee but unsure if this would make a drastic difference.

Vivienne52 · 25/11/2012 14:55

It is very subjective. I tried the bee yesterday and my DH said absolutely no way as it felt flimsy and I have to admit it did feel quite fly away. I actaully quite like the Sola! And for the money I got a brand new albeit older model it is a smooth ride and will do me fine until the versa arrives. I don't know why I feel I have to defend it but I do!

I emailed and was told 399 for standard and 429 for gt version. Also told md December over and over. Let us know how you get on, I'm watching the standard bjcm on eBay just so I can try one lol x

I'm hoping I can get a little advice on the pros / cons of the BJCVersa GT vs the Easywalker June. I thought I was completely sold on the June, but then the Versa GT came into my equation. Has anyone tried both?

Tiggywunkle · 27/11/2012 13:43

Yes I have a June and a Versa, and have tried the Versa GT.

Originally I thought the June was my perfect pushchair - it ticks all my boxes and more. BUT I am not entirely sure I would sell one to a pushchair novice. In a nutshell it handles fairly well forward facing but rear facing its hard work. Forward facing its an easy one handed push. Rear facing its a two handed job and is very difficult to get up kerbs. Forward facing kerbs are no issue. Its easy to fold rear facing but hard forward facing. However I know of someone who says the opposite to me on this and they struggle rear facing. Moving the seat around is tricky to start with but you get better at it. I have to say I love the way the June looks though. Its wonderfully unfussy to use - I love that the hood slides away behind the seat. Its is expensive though for what you get.

The Versa / Versa GT is much easier to use. The seat is huge. The hood is huge. Its fab to push with the seat on in either direction. I like the chunkier handle. The basket is enormous and easy to access. The footrest extends several more cms for a bigger child. Its a bit of a chunk to lift and open, but everything else makes up for it. My only issue with the Versa GT is that although you get the cute chunky GT wheels, you do lose the rear suspension and it is noticable. However until I get both side by side in my hands and on the road, I dont know how much the GT wheels will absorb and cushion the ride. It may be that IRL things are very different. Have I got one on order - yes definitely because if the wheels / suspension all work, then I think the Versa GT will take some beating.

God twiggy winkle, that was like buggyporn! Hahaha. Can't wait, so hope I am allowed to splash the cash x

(tiggywunkle, sorry, autocorrect)

Omg I wish I had a local pram shop...45 mins to get to John Lewis, only saw the original bjcm. Loved it, cannot imagine how awesome the seat on the versa must be..that was the ONLY thing on the bjcm I was less keen on. So far I got a quote for 375..so do I sell the bug cameleon for it??
Currently watching bjcm on eBay! For holiday (audible dh sigh) ;)

gojogouk · 27/11/2012 16:16

Oh Tiggy - you are the buggy oracle. I'm going to have to give my decision some more thought - I also feel like there are more accessories available with the Versa that might come in handy over time. I've given the June a test run at Peppermint, and did find the seat adjustments and overall fold definitely required a "knack", plus wasn't happy with the basket size or accessibility. The Versa seems a little bit simpler. Thanks so much for the thoughtful answer!

Tiggywunkle · 27/11/2012 21:14

If it helps RoyMum, my Cameleon is sat here boxed waiting for the courier to pick it up tomorrow, because I know with the Versa reappearing soon, I wont use my Cam again :)

GoJogouk to be fair the basket size isnt bad, but you have to access it through the sides really. We took the June Christmas shopping the other week and I was actually surprised how much it absorbed because we could keep stuffing things in without much fear of things falling out. But yes, the Versa basket is ginormous - to be fair apart from probably a Graco and the City Select (same basket) - there arent many singles with a basket as big. Its one reason I like the Versa. That and the easy peasy fold and that its cosy. In summer the June is probably nicer, but now its winter, I like the snuggly hood of the Versa.

Ihateparties · 27/11/2012 22:33

The handling on the Versa was fab, as was the suspension on the non GT version. That frame with Gt wheels would be amazing. TBH it's a little big for my tastes but I forgave it for all the up sides. Would have loved a June but with a 2 and just 5yo to also herd around the streets the bad handling put the final nail in the coffin on that one. Which is a disappointment cos if there's something I love in a pushchair its compact-ness Grin
