Baby Jogger City Mini + car seat question

Hi, We've bought a BJCM 2012 model and are wondering two things: 1) Do we need a carrycot in addition to an infant car seat for use with it; and 2) for the infant car seat, which models work best and what attachments do I need. Thanks for any advice - there is so much to think about!

Wow I'm all over MN today! we'v got the carry cot or she'd have nothing to lie flat in and we'v got the maxi cosi cabriofix car seat in red. Had to buy a rain cover.the adaptors for the carrycot were included but had to buy the adaptors for the carseat seperatly.also need a buggy snuggle for when she's bigger(now 6wk)and sitting in push chair itself. and a parasol but might have one still from the other 2.the car seat has no 'apron' so needs a blanket.you could buy the cabriofix car seat base for car.think that's it x

I know it's compatible with Maxi Cosi Cabriofix / Pebble, I used M&P Aton with Maxi Cosi adapters and I preferred M&P to Maxi Cosi. There are attachments for Recaro car seats too but I've never seen this car seats myself.

No you don't need a carrycot. The BJCM is suitable from
birth so the baby can be laid straight in the seat (with a nice snug fitting harness!). But I have to say I think babies look a bit exposed like this. I used a Bugaboo Cocoon for my LO which lasted us around ten months and was worth every penny. But blankets and maybe a head hugger would be fine.

For car seats, we had a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix and would recommend that or the Pebble, not least because they are fairly light to carry with an older child in, they are comfy, I like the tuck away hood on the Cabriofix. Importantly it's fitted on every pushchair including doubles we have had. just to add, if you have bought a 3 wheeler BJCM then you would fine the 4 wheeler more stable with a car seat in and if you can swap then I would recommend you consider it.

Just to add i found my car seat footmuffs were worth every penny to keeps baby snug in winter, keep light rain off and offer some sun protection in early spring.

I'd never put a newborn straight in the BJCM they'd literally rattle around..they did used to say suitable from 6m

Its definitely suitable from birth but I agree they rattle around. People use Petite Zia and Graco soft cots attached to the seats. Like I said I used a Bugaboo Cocoon - I find footmuffs drown newborns - but there's tons of options for baby buggysnuggles / baby footmuffs / cocoons which could be used.

No it doesnt here in the UK and even in the US the adaptors are awful - big contraptions which stick out a mile and cover half the second childs seat!!

Thanks, all. So Tiggy, we're not beholden to the Baby Jogger carrycot? We could use the Cocoon on it?

I was in a pram shop today and looked at the Quinny Mood baby cocoon thingy and the Maxi Cosi Elea ones and thought of you. I bet most baby footmuffs or cocoons would fit. Go to a good shop and have a play!
