Hi. Just trying to get a few ideas, it's only early days for us but wanted to have a look at whats available

We looked at Mutsy at the weekend. Love the 4rider chassis with air tyres, seemed nice to push. We also looked at the Uppababy which I do really like but the seat seemed emormous! I like the Phil and teds dot wit carrycot and we also really like Jane slalom with Matrix.

What we need it for
Lots of dog walking, so diferent terrain although we tend to stick to an old road which is a bit bumpy. Preferably a carrycot. Something thats not going to cost the earth but is super trendy, OH loves the look of Jane.

Thanks in advance!

I have the Jane Slalom pro reverse and have really liked it BUT I've had to have it repaired twice (once under guarantee, once not). I don't know if we've been really hard on it, but my SIL has the Phil and Ted's (our DC are the same age), and hers is still going strong.

The Jane is a lovely buggy and the transporter carry-cot that you can strap in as a car seat was invaluable for us. However, I'm not sure it's brilliant at off-roading. Mine just didn't seem to hack really rough terrain. "A but bumpy" will be fine, but if it's going to be more I'd look elsewhere. My SIL hasn't been off-road as much as us as she lives near the beach so I don't know if I'd have knackered a Phil and Ted's too. Can you still get mountain buggys?

I think if I had my time again I'd use a baby carrier or sling when walking the dogs as it just seems a bit too much for my buggy.

Hope that helps Confused The Jane has been great, but I was miffed when I had to pay £70 to have my chassis repaired just shy of my DS's 2nd birthday.

All the best with your choice and try not to tie yourself up in knots about what to choose. At the end of the day if it has wheels (big ones in your case) it'll be just fine!

I love my mountain buggy swift which is great for varied terrain. I have only had it four months though but it's been great for fields etc so far.

I have a baby jogger city elite which is brilliant for all terrains and a carry cot can be put on it. I used to have a Jane slalom but it's a sod to fold and heavy! The baby jogger is easy peasy to fold, still heavy bier much easier to put up and down.

Thanks for your replies. We wouldnt use it on really rough ground I dont suppose. The thing with the Janes is theres no one around here that stocks them and I refuse to buy a pram online which I havent tried!

Totobear, do you have the carrycot too?

Thanks!

I forgot about the Jane Slalom. My friend has a Jane Slalom Pro, and she likes it, and isn't easily pleased.

Oh, just had a look at the photos, and it's no good for me, as has three wheels. I'd never noticed before. I think 3 wheelers are better for off-roading, but the 4 wheelers look more stable to me. I don't have any idea what I'm talking about, just that I prefer the look of 4 wheels.

I have a Herqules Raptor Spin 3, it's brilliant, was built to survive an avalanche so unbelievably sturdy.

I have went through about 7-8 buggys/prams and DS is only 11 months and this one is the only one I have had no problems with at all.

You can't buy it in shops anymore but if you search "Herqules" in google, gumtree or Ebay loads come up and really cheap, I'm sure if you were to ask someone about it you could go and view it.

Four wheels bad over bumpy ground. Three wheels are far better. I spen a lot of time walking over rough, bumpy, uneven ground and four wheels are a pain while three cruises.

We have a Mountain Buggy Urban and it's fantastic, so light to handle and push. BUT the punctures are an absolute bugger. I got stranded in the park today with a puncture from running over a tiny but obviously very sharp piece of metal in the grass. I carry a pump with me for occasional deflated tyres, but punctures are your nemesis with a pushchair with air tyres. I get oen every couple fo months. I clearly need to look where I'm going.

Totobear · 30/08/2012 07:21

Hi, yes, aesthetically I always preferred three wheelers anyway. I found that I had never realised how bumpy pavements are before having a buggy though! That's why although you may not be going on rough terrain it's worth considering pavements!

I did buy the carrycot too.

I have a phil & teds sport vs2, and it is still going strong 2 years later and has been used as a double too. Ive only inserted a new inner tube once, recently.
I think they do a different version now so don't know whether its just as good

I would also go with the baby jogger Elite but also the icandy peach jogger. Stylish yet still so practical! can you tell that is the one I would love even though I have a new one that only arrived last week.
