Uppababy Vista or Britax Vigour 3+

I'm in the market for a secondhand pram and it's between these two. I have a 4 month old and a 3 yeasr old who may occasionally hop on and off a buggy board. We have a Mountain Buggy for the real hard terrain stuff, but I want something rear facing and a bit smaller for town.
I've only seen the Britax in the flesh, and while it certainly felt sturdy enough I just didn't love the looks of it. The hood seems disproportionately enormous and things look liek they'd slide right out of the basket. And it seemed WIDE.
Does anyone have the measurements for the width of either pushchair? The narrower one might clinch it. The Uppababy certainly appeals more on the looks, but is it worth the hundred odd quid more? We also have a Maxi Cosi car sear so it might be a plus to be able to clip that on, which as far as I know can't be clipped onto the Britax. Any experts out there to give an opinion?

They are both on the wider side... Also I would have expected a much bigger price difference, the Vista being more of a premium thing you'd be looking at min 300 second hand whereas the Vigour is a discontinued Britax so you'd be looking at sub 100 I would have thought.
I think the vigour is 62cm wide and the vista is 63 but a quick google to check would confirm.
Trying to think of some smaller alternatives that have the same sort of feel... ummm a Mutsy Evo, new approx £260....

Someone else will be along with more ideas shortly I'm sure Grin

ihate, the ones we've seen secondhand really do have a £100 difference, the Britax being ridiculously cheap, the Uppababy even more so(!) As far as I ca tell they are both pretty wide, I'm not sure that's going to be a problem everyday. They also seem structurally very similar, the frames look near identical apart from the Britax having 3 wheels. The basket is putting me off though, I really do need to know if things fall out of it! It seems incredibly shallow at the back

Have you thought about a Babystyle Oyster? Narrower than both.

Hmmmm someone on here has had a vigour I'm sure... I just can't remember who. Will ask re basket as soon as I do. The Vista has an amazing basket...

Sounds like a v. cheap vista (good for resale later on??)! Some have said it's not great suspension wise but you maybe don't need too much of that having the MB for that sort of thing. I can't help thinking the Vista would be 'better' than the britax...

One, we have a whole flight of stairs leading up to our house so need something with bigger wheels to bump up and down. I like the look of the Oyster but I don't think the wheels will do what we need them to. I also don't know if looks matter that much iykwim? I do prefer the Vista on looks alone but if the Britax performs just as well it seems a little ridiculous to spend money we don't need to iykwim.

I had the vigour 3+.

Initially I loved it - light, steered well, quite high up, reclined flat for sleeping.

I was on the way home from school run, went down the kerb crossing the road & it tipped - baby was upside down in the road :( Thankfully she was strapped in & unhurt. When I bought my Oyster, the lady in the shop said she had heard of several tipping and was particularly a problem in the parent facing mode.

If you go for the Britax, please be careful.

Goodness that's not good. Do you think it's just the 3 wheels that make it unstable? It does seem a bit precariously balanced actually now I look at the pictures. And not too much side protection. I thought I might prefer the adjustable backrest to a bucket seat like the Vista has but actually is a bucket seat safer? More comfortable?

I had a Vigour 4+ with a B-Smart seat (the one with the very large hood - which was great as far as using it with a 4y with mobility issues goes). Nothing fell out of my basket but I used two resuable shopping bags (the hessian or woven plastic kind not the 10p bag for life kind) side by side to increase storage space and to avoid the 'losing cans of beans on the way home' scenario.

I would have KILLED to have had a Vista though as it's one of my dream pushchairs Blush. The basket is HUGE on the Vista and it takes a Uppababy buggyboard or even a Rumble seat at the front for another child to ride in (you can carry 1, 2, or 3 children on a Vista!)

WeAreSix · 24/08/2012 20:08

I'm not sure if the weight of a bigger child (not that she was that big!) in the parent facing mode was all it took to make it unstable. Britax were horrible to me when I called to query it. Apparently I was using it inappropriately...

I prefer a seat which reclines over a bucket seat. That was one of the things that made my choice of the Oyster over the iCandy actually.

Oh, the Britax isn't small at all. The mountain buggy is probably longer but the Britax is quite chunky. I don't think you'd notice that much difference in size - the only thing you'd gain is the parent facing mode. I've never had a vista so not sure about size there.

Right, we've been massively bad and indecisive and bought both Blush but the Britax was £40 and the Vista was £150 so hopefully we can try both out for a few days and then just sell on whichever we decide to get rid of. First impressions, jeeeees the basket on the Vista is huge. I thought people were exaggerating but nope. I could practically climb in there. Not such a fan of telescopic handle as I think it doesn't feel as secure as the Mountain Buggy, but then what does. It is seriously long and feels just as unwieldly as the MB really. It's a 2007 model so the seat unit has only 3 reclines. The piggyback board it came with is great though, ds has been happily hitching a lift around the living room. Baby seems very happy in the seat, and it has an extra pad thing so make him even cozier. The Britax, well, the seat unit seems much bigger and actually the recline is good. But the lack of side protection makes me wibble a bit and ds, seems a bit flopped in anything but the flattest position, when really he wants to be up and gazing around. The frame feels a bit more solid but I suspect that's the lack of suspension. it feels wider where the Vista feels longer but I don't know if that's just my perception. I'm hesitating with it having 3 wheels though as from what I;ve read on this thread I can see myself tipping it down a kerb, and I can see that especially rearfacing, and with a relatively high seat unit, that could happen fairly easily and take me by surprise. With both I love the solid wheels as I'm a bugger for running over broken glass with the MB and getting numerous punctures. So it could go either way Grin Happy we took the plunge and decided to get both though, total bargains.
