Bugaboo donkey - do we need this?

DH and I are expecting first DC at the end of November. My parents have very kindly said they will buy us a pram. We were just about to order a chameleon yesterday in John Lewis when the donkey caught DH's eye - with us topping up the difference.

The sales assistant explained ( that in mono) it's the same width as the cam. DH's view is that my parents are spending loads on a pram and we should get best value for money in terms of future usage. We plan ideally to have three children with about a two year age gap between them.

Are we being a bit mad and should we just get the cam? I have horrors of being stuck somewhere in the future with a new baby and a little two year old boy (our first dc) who is tired and wont walk. I'm getting a new car, BMW 1 series, and am a bit worried re boot space but DH has an Audi estate and has said I would just use that if there were any probs with space. Also, we were thinking of putting off ordering til September as I think the new chassis will be out then that folds flatter.

Very conscious that this is DC1 and perhaps we're being slightly nuts!

I think it's sensible if you plan on have several in quick succession... I bought a Quinny with dd1. Then she outgrew it so got a phil and ted complete with double kit. Then we fell pg with ds 1. That was great for them both. Then I rather quickly fell pg with dd2 but the 2nd seat doesn't recline for a wee man to sleep in so we got an out and about double. Now if you've kept up that's about 1300 of buggies right there. Had we future proofed with no 1 we could have saved alot of time effort and space. and also saved us from the slight pushchair addiction I now have!

I wish we'd bought a single to double first time round, would've saved a lot of money. I'm pregnant with DC2 now, DD will be 22 months so we've had to retire our single and get a double. If I could, the Donkey would be my choice.
Go for it!

Just bare in mind te seat size on donkey is narrower than cameleon as has to allow to basket next to it in mono

So may not accommodate a large two year old..

Personally I would go with the cameleon generation 3 coming in sept as the seat folds down for easier fit in car. The bugaboos really hold their value well so if you did need something down the line you could sell and get most back

I have a donkey and I love it! Only one DC so far, but the extra storage space is very handy.

It's not true that the seat is narrower. The donkey is actually slightly wider than a chameleon, but still narrow enough to fit through a regular door. If you want to add the second seat, the frame expands widthways.

Not a Donkey, I've just ordered an iCandy peach blossom for when dc2 arrives. It's also a single that converts to a double. Love the look of it as a single, and just wish I'd have had the foresight to buy something like that (or a Donkey) with DS and then we'd be half way there without having to fork out for a whole new pram!

As I say, can't comment on the Donkey specifically but you're definitely not nuts to consider the one dc to two dc at this point Grin

Fantastic - thanks for the feedback. Off to John Lewis today to have a really good look. I spoke to my DSis who has a cam. She said she might have a dodgy one but she found it hard to get up and down do want to have a good look today and also ask re the new flatter folding chassis
