What to buy for a petite mum!

Hi,

Well we've started our search for a pushchair/travel system. My problem is that I'm petite (5ft) and the ones I've seen so far are just too heavy/bulky/almost as big as me!

Any petite mums out there who can recommend a pushchair from birth?
I was hoping on getting a travel system to save on costs but are they worth it?
We live in the city so don't need big wheels etc. Ideally something compact, lightweight but must have adjustable handles for my DH.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Maclaren Techno XLR. Its a stroller, so will last til they outgrow buggies, and lies flat and yiu can get a soft carrycot that newborn can lie flat in and is snuggly, plus, the Recaro Profi Plus car seat can be clipped into it. Essentially, a travel system with the longevity of a travel system but not bulky.

I am 5'2 and use the handles as they are, but they extend, so dh who is 6'2 has them 'long' when he uses it.

I love it.

If you want something with a reversible seat then the options are more limited, there are LOADS of smaller forward facing only options.

Ummm off top of head bugaboo bee plus is the logical first answer, small, narrow, simple to use, big handle adjustment. If you can wait the Easywalker June may be great, it's compact but full featured. Slightly bigger and heavier than a bee and more all terrain, which you said you don't need but hey pavement often isn't as flat as you thought it was once you start pushing something wheeled across it.

Baby Jogger Versa or City Mini, these are also longer term yet fairly compact options. Slightly heavier and wider again but by no means massive.

I have a slight obsession with finding small parent facing pushchairs... it's not going that well to be honest, there aren't many!

Have you been anywhere to test drive anything yet?

I've got the Oyster travel system and I'm 5ft 2. I can throw it around with ease and my taller DH just raises the handle if he's pushing.

I am 5ft 1 and have two buggies for my DTs, an icandy peach blossom and an obaby twin. They both come as single versions. The icandy has an adjustable handle and suits me and my 6ft husband fine! It can be forward or backward facing in single mode,

The obaby is low, but not adjustable (but not a travel system anyway so you wouldn't want it anyway)

My friend has a bugaboo bee and she is 5ft2 and seems happy with it

Gnocchi, I think I follow you around recommending the Maclaren XLR Grin

But seriously, OP, it is great. You can use the carry cot or car seat attachment when your baby is very little, and then move to the lie-flat seat when ready - I actually put DD forward facing at 3mo, she loved it, and the head-hugger and lie-flat option makes it incredibly comfortable for a young baby. Plus it is ridiculously light, and very easy to manouevre. And I'm weeny too.

I am just about 5' and DH is almost 6'. We had a Stokke Xplory and it was perfect for both of us. Not particularly lightweight to get in and out of the car, but fantastic once on the move and has the adjustable handle.

Links arms with Nelly

Great! thanks everyone for the suggestions, I think I'm going to head off to the new Mothercare superstore in Edmonton and test drive a few models!

I am 5 foot two and a half 3 and have 6'3 DH, we don't have a buggy yet but are probably going to choose the Uppababy Cruz - just to add another option to your list!

JollyHockeyStick · 20/08/2012 17:56

Don't get a Quinny Buzz 3. I love mine and I loved it even more when DS was very small. But it is pretty unmanageable. And I realised recently that even with the handle in the lowest position, I could do with it being 2-3 inches lower down, I don't think the 3 wheels help when you are going up or down kerbs either. I'm 5'1.

Nanny01 · 21/08/2012 15:03

Nuna pepp goes really low, it isn't a plush stroller but is light and has an adjustable handle and car seat adapters. I'm getting the cossatto giggle that has an adjustable handle. Will let you know when it comes how it is.

DeathMetalMum · 24/08/2012 09:35

Df is 5'11 and im 5'1 we have used a britax b mobile with no poblems. Its suitable from birth but also can be a travel system and you can get a carrycot attachment though we have used neither.

Very lightweight we live in a flat I have no problems carrying it up the stairs. Very nice to push. Dd is still comfatable in it at 18months. Still plenty of space too and she is on the tall side. Has put up with many train journeys and also survived a plane trip too.

elk4baby · 25/08/2012 20:56

Consider the Mutsy Evo. It's really compact, high quality pushchair.

We had the 4Rider (or LightRider), and the handle on it went really low (even our 2yr old could push it). We absolutely love it! Now, if only Mutsy made a good double....

elk4baby · 25/08/2012 20:57

... also parent-facing :)

minipie · 02/09/2012 16:47

Slightly belated but just to say ignore my post re the uppababy cruz - lowest handle height is 100cm and I find that a bit too high at 5'3 so would guess you definitely would.

Easywalker june looks like a great bet but pricey. Baby style oyster is cheaper and similarly compact but a little heavier.

How did your test drives get on OP?
