Not sure would have to try it. How about one of the younger twins in backpack and one of the older ones in buggy and one on buggyboard

TribbleTuckandDismount · 12/08/2012 16:47

Buggy board and mountain buggy freerider? Would that combo work?

forevergreek · 12/08/2012 17:13

Thanks. They have a twin sling combo set up ( ergos I think) so will carry babies and toddler holding hand each from plane to collect luggage. I think they just wanted an option that wouldnt make dad so hot if not nessesary and allow babies to sleep easier ( used to buggy)

Maybe x2 free riders now you mention it! I shall call mountain buggy in the morning and ask.

I assume they already have a Duet? Its a huge chunk to be taking on a plane! The chances of him getting it back after the flight are very slim - so the sling / hand option (or Trunki's??) really are sensible for the airport. I flew a lot with children and I only ever once got my pushchair back when I got off the plane and thats only because it came in the cabin with us.

My gut feeling is that there isn't enough room to add two Freeriders but it is very close. I dont think you could get one Freerider and a buggy board onto the back of the Duet. Plus you would not be able to recline the seats fully if the babies needed to sleep. You may be able to get two bumpriders on, but again I doubt the babies could recline. I have to be honest, having had the Duet, and flown lots, it all sounds a complete nightmare to execute.

I think I would be suggesting they invest in two Trunkis for the toddlers, or two Mini Micro Scooters with the pull along cords. My 2 and a half year old was a whizz on her Mini Micro Scooter and they are easy to fold flat for storage - or you can buy scooter hooks for the pushchair. The Mountain Buggy Freerider is horrible as a scooter for several reasons - not least its really heavy, the steering is very difficult, and the board is very rough.

forevergreek · 13/08/2012 07:21

Yes they have the duet already
Can't get trunkis as there is only one adult so not enough hands to pull trunkis and push buggies ( plus trunkis are work of devil IMO)

They have flown a lot with duet already no problem ( they aren't expecting at door so boards more from on way out) but had a spare pair of hands before for elder two

Suppose best is what th usually do which is sling babies and toddlers walk with rucksack reins. Just obv onperson slinging baby front and back and toddler on each hand with hand luggage satchel thrown in. Staff can be roped in ( emirates)

I have a little chair that straps on the side of a hand luggage suitcase thats really good but I wouldn't like to recommend it because it depends really on how strong the suitcase handle is, to how well it works.

I have to say flying with children is so difficult, especially in the baggage reclaim hall if you dont have a pushchair and a crawling baby...never mind two babies plus two toddlers...plus all the rest of the journey. I dont envy them at all.

I think its going to get harder in future because Gatwick with certain airlines already wont let you take any pushchair, I believe under something tiny like 7 or 8kgs to the gate - which leaves you with nothing before the flight. Plus in the US they are limiting the weight of pushchairs which will hit people with double pushchairs hard.

Shoshe · 13/08/2012 20:50

what about two of these

Nannyto2 · 16/08/2012 08:46

This is slightly irrelevant but can the dad fly alone with all 4 children??

forevergreek · 16/08/2012 17:35

Yes he can fly alone, as long as not more than one under 2 on lap ) all 4 will have seats), it's only to do with oxygen masks as 4 masks usually per 3 seats.

Iv flown many times alone with 4/5 children ( different ages though), why wouldn't you be allowed?

I was told as well 2 under 2 need 2 adults accompanying. Not just to do with oxygen though.

Nannyto2 · 16/08/2012 18:13

I've been told that a child under 2 is to sit on a responsible adults lap and the adult can only have 1 child under 2. So in this situation would need 2 adults for the youngest 2

forevergreek · 16/08/2012 22:33

They only need an adult per under 2 for take off. They have already spoken to airline and a member of cabin crew will do this

Have since posted also spoken to airline and airline will shuttle them from plane to luggage and vise versa ( on one of those cool looking golf buggy things!- I want one!) so buggy will be checked in with suitcase etc on check in.

After trying the lascal buggy boards fit if anyone needs to know in future
