Is it necessary to move on to a Maclaren style buggy?

DD is 16mo. Everyone around me with similar age toddlers seem to be ditching their "from birth" buggies and getting Maclarens instead. Went to Mothercare on the w/e and apart from them being more lightweight and easier to fold than my current Loola up, I can't really see any other advantage. It is still meant to be birth - 15 kilos like my loola up, the Loola up seems more comfortable with more padding, plus looking at my daughter's height of more than 80cm I can't see the Maclaren lasting all that long. So is it really necessary to trade up or is it just a trend thing? Thanks in advance

If it aint broke then don't fix it!

They find the weight and ease of folding convenient for certain journeys. When my DCs were 6 months plus I got a McLaren Volo - the old buggy was still fine for long walks, cold days or when I expected them to nap, but the Volo was a godsend for public transport, or days when I expected them to be walking most of the time.

Not at all. Pride yourself on buying the right pushchair to suit your needs o start with :)

I didn't with ds1. We also had a Loola!

I did with ds2 simply because the Maclaren was easier to push 1 handed when he was starting to walk more (ours wasn't a Loola up, that wasn't available when we bought ours!)

I found the maclaren takes up very little space in the boot. It's handy to just keep it there and use it for days out to town. My bugaboo chameleon takes up the entire boot space. But we still take the bugaboo if we are going off road though. And there are a lot of country lanes and cobblestone streets around here.

If you mostly walk, there's no benefit to getting a smaller buggy unless you have one that's particularly difficult to push I suppose - but if you drive or get the bus a lot, then they're much easier to fold and carry and don't take up as much space.

My DS likes his creature comforts, and stayed in his big silver cross until he was walking further distancesnow scoots everywhere insistant he is a BIG boy

The mcclaron stayed folded up :)

Thanks for your responses. We live in a town centre so even at 16 mo DD can walk to the supermarket or the park/playground without me needing to take the buggy, and if we drive somewhere I don't normally take it with me and rely on parking reasonably close by, so looks like there is no need to buy another. I just really felt like I was missing something, so glad to see there isn't!

We use cameleon only. Do have a all in one fold but only due to regular plane travel who won't accept cameleon up to plane. Lo hates small one as seems to half hang from straps and slump and also not rear facing
