P&T Sport vs. Explorer

On another thread, someone said the Sport is actually better than the Explorer. But the Explorer seems to have a few very good improvements over the Sport (of course, this is just pure spec/research info, not real-life use). If you've had both, if you've tried both, I'd appreciate if you could share your opinion/preference and reasons why.

I have a sport but not an explorer. If you are using the buggy for two kids I'd look to see which buggy can be used in double mode with just one kid in the back. We put DC1 in the front of our sport and DC2 in the back as he often fell asleep and was smaller and so needed less space. When DC1 got out though we were meant to move DC2 into the main seat, rather than just contine to use the second seat. This was a right pain if he'd fallen asleep. If we weren't doing too much I'd just leave him in the back seat but if we were moving downhill at all I had to move him, otherwise the whole buggy would tip up. It would also be handy if the buggy would stand up by itself. I think some of the more modern P&T do these but don't know which. These are minor niggles though and I'm now using the buggy for DC3. It is a great buggy.

The tipping would be my concern as well. My two toddlers weigh almost the same - 11kg and 14kg. The elder often gets out of the pushchair when we're out and wants to walk. On top of this, we live in a VERY hilly area (so hilly that we had to give up using a BJ City Select and buy a proper side-by-side).

Looking at video reviews (BabyGizmo one in particular), the Explorer is very stable and in that respect far better than their previous models.

Some of the comments I have heard is that there is more space underneath for the lower chid in a Sport, it's got the reclining doubles kit plus it's the only P&Ts tandem (other than the Promenade so far) that hasn't been subject to a big issue, recall or other problem. So they are safer bets second hand.

I have the Sport and I am very happy with it. we bought it when ds2 was born and ware using it still with ds2 and ds3 in it. Yes, the break is a little difficult to loosen, especially when not wearing trainers etc, and it would be nice if the hood followed the sun. But overall I really dont have much to complain about.

My cousin's wife has the explorer. she gets VERY annoyed with the hood as it keeps coming off. And the seat in the back doesnt have a hood by the way. I dont know if that is optional with the explorer?

re tipping over and which child in the back... when the younger ds was little and the older one still mainly in the pushchair, the younger one was always in the back. if the older one did get out, we would simply detach the whole seat unit with him in it and put it on the adapters of the main seat. If you open the zips of the main seat, and recline the second seat, the recline is stil the same as when he's in the bottom IYSWIM. Thus we never had to take a sleeping baby out of the second seat unit if big bro left the pushchair.

now ds3 is usually in the main seat as ds2 is old enough to do a lot of walking. If ds2 does want to sit in the pushchair, he'll hop in the back.

anyway, what I want to say, I wouldnt disregard the sport which is for sale around where you live because of those things. It's still a great pushchair IMO.
