Bugaboo chameleon 3

DH and I have decided to go for a chameleon for PFB who is due in November. We were going to order today but see there is a chameleon 3 due out in September.

We can't see a definite release date or a way to pre-order so were going to ask in John Lewis today. I just wondered if anyone knew? We really like the look of the flat pack carrycot.

Separately, I see there is a baby cocoon and a footmuff thing. Plan is for DC to be in the carrycot for the first bit so do I need either of these at the moment? If so, what one or both?

Also, I love the look of the off white but think it may not really be practical. So was wondering re sand. I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on that? I have been on the website but confused myself with what colours you need to choose for different bits so thought the JL trip might help with that too!

Many thanks in advance for any help

Ps - should ingest a sheepskin liner too, I was wondering? If so, any recommendations?

I'm in a similar position! Baby due in Oct - spent the last few days pondering our options! We went to our local baby shop this week, they said the first delivery of the Cameleon 3 is due at the beginning of Sept but we'd need to pre order in the next couple of weeks to get one in that 'batch'. It doesn't seem like anywhere has a demo of the new one, that I can find - there's an online baby shop (peppermint) that lists all the colour options/packages etc (slightly different from the current one I think). I really want the off white too but reckon it'll get mucky, the sand seems populat, but might go for the petrol blue (the 'new' colour). Theres also some vids of the new one on youtube. Hope this helps - let me know if you have any luck with John Lewis!

EmmaNicole · 28/07/2012 13:59

Me too! I'm going to go for the black base (which is new, because currently you can only get grey) but not sure on the covers....I also love the white but am worried about it getting dirty (we're all too practical!!), not going for red as had a red pushchair with DC1, love the blue but we're not finding out the sex, so I'm thinking the sand too...you can then add blue/pink accessories as required. Decisions, decisions....

shinyblackgrape...I'm not going to bother with the cocoon as I think the apron with a baby blanket will be warm enough. But I do recommend the footmuff, I have the Bee Plus with a footmuff for winter and it's amazing, really warm and cosy. DD calls it her "snuggly pushchair" when it's on. But if your baby is due in November then I don't think you'll need it until next winter. DC will be in the carrycot until April, and by that time it will be warm enough for you not to need the footmuff (having said that I live in France, and am maybe forgetting just what the weather's like in the UK in April! Anyway, you won't need it straight away.

You can preorder from a few places. The price will be the same as the Cam2. I'd hold out until it's released which is the third week in September if I recall correctly. This is one place that's been taking preorders. You won't find a demonstration model until September in all probability.

I have off white on my chameleon (and light grey first time round with my frog) it is fine and washes really well. I put it in the machine even though it says not

Tiggywunkle · 29/07/2012 14:43

The biggest difference with the Cam3 is the new fold / unfold which will make a huge difference. The current carrycot lies flat - but the difference is that you currently have to insert two piece of plastic to make it upright but the new version has these fixed. The new Cam3 has easier to remove wheels and lots of other minor changes.

You don't need the cocoon - that's really for the Bee. The carrycot has an apron and with some blankets, will be fine for a baby.

Most Bugaboo retailers will take an order or deposit for a Cam3 now. Just ask. You will get a better deal by going to an independent retailer.

SaraBellumHertz · 29/07/2012 17:50

Tiggywinkle - do you really think not having to insert the bits of plastic makes a difference? I lost those bits between baby no 3&4 and so never used them with no 4, I don't think it made any real difference.

They do make the carrycot rigid - I used to be paranoid about losing them but we never did.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 04/08/2012 16:54

I'm also waiting for the c3. I love the cam as it is, so was always going to be the pram of choice for me for this new baby. Gate opening bumper bar is a huge improvement I bloody hate the current style, just used to slot baby in behind it when I had one before. I'm just waiting to see if the basket is easier to get into in carrycot mode as its a real pain on the current model. Don't think the new fold will make much difference to me, I think the current one is a piece of cake to fold, but then I am tall with long arms so I just pick it up, press the buttons and flick it closed.
Can't decide if I like the "my first car" limited edition one, frame colour is lovely, but faux leather fabrics sound a bit naff tbh and the labels are too big and ott for my liking.

Sorry to bump an old thread but just wanted to report that DH and I were in John Lewis tonight. The lady in the nursery department too us we could pre-order the new chameleon now. Think we'll do it at the weekend once we've looked at colours etc.

She thinks they be in stock at beginning of September. We need to take delivery though as they won't store but that should be ok

Just wanted to let you know!

Sand is a light beige colour and doesn't show the dirt-I wouldn't say it is dark but then that is down to interpretation. Will they guarantee delivery in September?

I am due early November and very keen to have a look at the new bugaboo 3 before committing, nursery advisor at john lewis told me they should be getting in a demo version this week so will head down next weekend.

Hoping the timing works and they don't have a backlog of orders!

femmeaufoyer · 17/08/2012 12:28

How exciting! my DC not due until December so I should have loads of time to order. Still debating colours...I'm very taken with the petrol blue...but we don't know the sex. I'm thinking it should be ok for a girl though if I add pink blankets, toys and a white liner....

farfallarocks · 17/08/2012 14:02

I like the petrol too, also think red is fine for boys and girls

StateofConfusion · 17/08/2012 14:48

I have an older bugaboo and its fantastic, still a dream to push with my 3.8yo in. I have all red and LOVE it!

shinyblackgrape · 19/08/2012 08:19

Hi all - just popping in to say that DH and I went in to JL yesterday to order the cam and DH has now got me agonising over the donkey as it is the same width as the cam (when in mono) but there is more storage. The possible big clincher is that if we can we'd love to have 3 children with about two years apart (work is going to love me!). My parents are very kindly buying the pram and DH is thinking that we should get something which we can keep on using as if DC1 is only just 2ish when DC2 is born, he's likely to still need to go in the pram.

Dont know if this is us just being PFB nuts though?!

StateofConfusion · 19/08/2012 12:35

I used a double until pfb was 4 dc2 was 3, although less and less. But even now I sometimes miss having it.

Tiggywunkle · 19/08/2012 14:31

I think to be honest it s a sensible approach but the Donkey does feel really large to push, it's bulky folded (or you have to remove wheels on the new chassis) and all round for the first 2 years TBH I would get a regular single Whch holds it's value and sell it for a double later - or consider a true single to double eg an iCandy. The Donkey conversion is not the easiest, adding a car seat makes it too wide for a standard door in double mode. But it looks fabulous and pushes fab. The basket is Duo mode isn't as big as it looks. I had a Donkey and loved it but the size in the end sent me off to buy a Cameleon, which is so much nicer as a single.
