help me find the right pram! (Bambini Quattro?)

Right - my requirements are this:

Must lie flat as I want to use it from birth
Must be easy to steer/mount curbs as the pavements here are narrow and I do school run every day - preferably be able to steer with one hand as I have a toddler too
Must not be too heavy as I am a bit of a weakling
Under £300

Have trawled the internet and found the Bambini Quattro pram stroller, which is alarmingly cheap... any experiences of this, or other recommendations?

Also, generally, which are better, 3- or 4-wheelers?

TIA

I just looked at the bambini quattro and whilst I have no experience of it, I would imagine the quality will be an issue at that price! Have you thought about the britax b-agile? It fits your criteria and comes in comfortably under your bugdet. HTH

thanks - have had a look at the Britax b-agile and it looks nice. It's obviously pretty light and folds easily so that's great, but I am fanatical about baby lying flat from birth so I would buy the carrycot to go with it which does push it up to more like £270 altogether. But that's still within budget so that's ok.

My other question would be does it steer easily? I know that lightweight doesn't always = easy steering...

We have a BabyJogger City Mini, and yes I know every thread like this inevitably has a babyjogger recommendation but we love ours. We've used it since birth. Its dead easy to steer, I can steer it with one hand, it does get harder if you fill the bottom up with shopping, it folds with one hand. and the Customer service from Babyjogger is excellent, I managed to jam the front wheel (being a bit every handed with it ramming it up a kerb) anyway I phoned them gave them the product number and they sent me a replacement wheel the very next day completely free of charge. The canopy is really good too.
Just try a few different buggies out in a shop and see what suits you best.

i would get a baby jogger city mini. you can get a carrycot to go with it although it does lie flat anyway and it meets all your criteria

lol x-posted!

thisisyesterday · 04/07/2012 19:59

you can get a 3 or 4 wheel version too, whichever you prefer.

I haven't got the b-agile yet, so can't vouch for how it handles. I did have the b-smart until a few weeks ago and found it brilliant. Its wide though so no good for narrow pavements so I didn't suggest that. The carrycot that goes with the Britax prams is lovely, my DD was so comfortable in it and it lasted all the way to 6 months as it's a good size. The babyjogger is always recommended here and well regarded but I find I kick the break bar across the back-doing that everyday would drive me nuts!

eyeeyeippy · 05/07/2012 11:08

Alas, the babyjogger plus its carrycot would be out of budget... Looks nice though.

maybe second hand?

thisisyesterday · 05/07/2012 11:25

you can get the pushchair for £225 here
and carry cot for £90 so only just over budget

hard to compare prices with them though isn't it, as most sites you have to ring to get a price on one Hmm

ex display one

thisisyesterday · 05/07/2012 11:26

oooh 10% off at Boots plus you'd collect reward points

homeaway · 05/07/2012 19:45

How about buying a babyjogger pushchair new and the carrycot second hand with a new mattress ? The carrycot will not have been used that much so would probably be easy to find in good condition ?

Tiggywunkle · 06/07/2012 00:45

You also don't need a carrycot with either the B-Agile or BJCM. Just put the baby flat on the seat.

Stonefield · 06/07/2012 10:01

I agree, we put DS straight in it laid flat, just get a soft cosytoes type buggy liner. We got a great one from John Lewis and baby will be nice n snug.

Ihateparties · 06/07/2012 12:32

I got the b agile and carrycot from different places for less than 250. It does push, steer, tip and and generally handle very very easily so you would have no worries there. There are often new carrycots on ebay for relatively little (think mine was £55). City Mini does same job, bit more money, possibly you get a little more for it though, the easily removable fabrics, maybe a slightly higher quality (not that the britax is poor, it certainly isn't).

CravingSunshine · 06/07/2012 13:36

Whatever one you go for, I think it's worth buying a popular brand it 2nd hand on eBay and then selling on. We bought a MC one and COULD NOT sell it although it was a nice buggy.

LadyofWinterfell · 06/07/2012 13:42

I paid £175 for my BJCM from Precious Little One, plus if you 'like' them on fb you get a 10% off code! Actually, if you know what you're having my green one will be for sale soon as at nearly 3 DS is getting far too heavy for it!

spicandspan · 06/07/2012 13:55

Mutsy Evo. Most places selling it for £399 in a bundle with the carrycot, but a couple of retailers are selling chassis and seat seperatly, which comes to £270. Seat lies flat for newborn if you get a nice footmuff thing, and the footrest folds up so you can make it a bit more like an emclosed pram.
Great big wheels so easy for curbs, folds small, steers beautifully one handed, good suspension.
