mould on pushchair.

am rather cross with myself & the seller, who knew there was mould on the pushchair - had covered it by putting a liner on the front & I didn't check, anyhow, I do like the pushchair so I want to try & get it sorted out.

the part where the harness goes will need a damn good hoovering out, but also the covers, everything apart from the hood comes off the chasis, which i've done, everything that's machine washable has been in on a gentle wash with non bio powder, but the two main seat units I can't solve.

I have

  1. an urban detour in beige, (not too bad to be fair that's only being washed as it's the dog walking one & needs doing anyways by me)
  2. a green M&P Luna, (which is the worst) it looks like the dotted mould, and it seems to be ingrained.

will they fit in the washers at the launderette as my one the door is too small, or does anyone know anything else I can use?

If the luna is synthetic fabric (I think it is) use mould and mildew remover by dettol. I used to wash mine in the bath...

ooh good idea the bath, will it not bleach the covers? thatnks obvious but didn't think of that. with a scrubbing brush?

synthetic tends to be okay, try on a hidden piece of fabric, rinse off very well and see what happens. I find vanish soap bar, cold water and a nail brush good for general grime.

Don't use mildew remover, it bleaches.
Put it in the bath and shower it down with some washing powder or washing up liquid and hang it outside to dry Smile

it's polyester says spoge down - oh dear it's soaking in the bath lol. 32

I'm sure it will be fine. I remember a cleaned up a really manky luna with dettol and scrubbing and it was fine Smile

If none of those work, do you have/can you beg, steal, borrow a handheld carpet cleaner?

I've got a Vax on which I used on the grotty fabric of the pram when I got it out for DS2. Worked a treat, especially as it sucked all the water out and left it virtually dry.

pumpkinsweetie · 23/06/2012 17:32

PTA-you have given me a brill idea for cleaning my pushchair, didn't ever think of using my vax like that , thankuSmile

PTA · 23/06/2012 17:51

No probs! My Vax comes in handy for lots of things, wee on matress, arms of fabric sofa (not so much for cleaning but for sucking the damp out), in the car for the backs of the front seats where DS has kicked them, etc.

I so need to get one of those again lol. but alas no, it has had a damn good scrubbing within reason, (didn't want to be too vigorous & tear/wear the fabric away) the stains are still there, althou it is still soaking wet, but I assume they'll remain, all be it faded, I guess it's a lesson learnt, and I shall have to try to clean it again in a few weeks with a mould solution, if all else fails i'll have to try & fashion some covers using some old fabrics I have. at least I know it's clean for DS2 - I assume the mouldy stains won't harm him?
