Joovy Cabooze - does anyone have anything bad to say about this?

Having read the reviews on here for this double pushchair, I'm quietly confident that we will get it.

Does anyone have anything not-so-glowing to say about it? It seems too good to be true...

Cons: A newborn baby has to go in a car seat. There is only a slight recline on the front seat. Small basket with poor access.

We had a Joovy Caboose and it was a lot of fun. However there are some flaws. As Milk says the newborn has to go in a car seat. We had the Ultralight and the front recline was very good really but it compromises the child in the rear who then needs to slide the seat towards the parent and perch on the edge.

As Misdee has just found out - she had one delivered today - a child can easily reach the front wheels - we didn't have this issue with an older baby - the footrest lifts up for them. Plus there is direct poking, hair pulling, general annoyance access to either child as they are back to back if the rear child is seated.

I didn't find the basket access too bad - my eldest loved standing up and helping me. But I forgot she was barely strapped in and tipped up to go up a step and she practically flew off! The harness allows a lot of movement, so your eldest needs to be reasonably well behaved.

The Ultralight pushed like a trolley - like a B&Q trolley as opposed to a Tesco one - the ones you put planks of wood on. It wasn't bad to push ie not heavy - it just felt like a trolley not a pushchair. I dont know what the regular Caboose is like. The Ergo was plain horrible!! Looks great but unpushable. I have never listed a pushchair on Ebay so fast!!

Other downsides - the through hood. Thankfully we had ours in summer but I can't imagine the bitter wind howling through past the children's heads in winter. My two like being snuggly. Also its hard to fit any footmuffs on.
Its also surprisingly long folded.

This and this might help to see where the rear seat position goes etc.

I have to say my daughter adored the Joovy - she was desperate to hang onto it - but hubby made me choose between the Joovy and Peach Blossom - no contest! We loved the interaction between us - we used to talk loads and she loved the option to stand up or sit down. I could get my shopping home although the odd time DD was holding a bag on her knee as theres nowhere really to hang anything extra.

Thanks, really appreciate the honesty!

Didn't mean to post that...

I'm not too keen on carting a kid round in a carseat for the first 6 months, that can't be good for them.

Not that bothered about footmuffs - I just mummify our son in blankets! But the hood issue is a good point, thanks.

Mine only arrived yesterday from the states, so not had a chanc to play fully.

The hood is an I as the kids kept flipping t forward nd back. My not exceptionally tall 3 year old can reach the wheels with her feet, but the footrest does raise up so that should stop tht issue.

It's heavy to lift, but not bad to push.

Baby has to use the car seat fr 6months. Not an issue for us as dd5 will be in the sling, the joovy is for dd4 and ds use really.

It's well built, good construction, but is long folded and doesn't free stand when folded.

However, if you have a fickle three yr old like me who doesnt know if she wants to walk, stand or sit from one minute to the next, then could be ideal.

Oh, I gt mine fom amazon.com fr £110 inc delivery and import fees etc.

I just got mine from the states today (the 2010 Ultralight edition - think older editions are heavier/don't have as much recline on front seat/ smaller shopping basket, etc, so would get the newest edition if you can). Dc#2 isn't here yet but I've had a good play with it and had tall 2yr 4mth DS both in the front seat and sitting/standing in back and it seems great. I would be using the carseat attachment for the first few months and must say my car seat seems really secure when strapped in and the hood sits nicely over it so the baby will be cosy and cocooned in the car seat over the winter. I had to move the bench seat forward a bit for my DS to sit when the car seat was in and he had to lean forward slightly but he didn't look or indicate he was uncomfortable even though he's really tall (98th percentile). Our cosytoes from our single buggy (Graco) also fit the front seat great too so it can be made snuggly when needed. Also, without the car seat attached it had the same footprint as my Graco (and was lighter) so not massively long (prob a couple of inches longer with the car seat attached but still not massively long). The only major drawback I could see was that I didn't get a raincover with it. Joovy do make a specific one but looks to me that it would only fit with no car seat attached so pointless getting one shipped. I think if I got say a Graco Stadium Duo (big huge tandem) raincover it would prob be long enough to accomadate the carseat though.

Anyway, not tested it properly yet but from just tootling about the house and garden with my toddler in it I think I really like it

HTH

P.S. For the Ultralight 2010 version in Blueberry it cost us £197 inc shipping and customs from Amazon.com

Misdee - you'll probably work this out for yourself but I thought I'd let you know that my friend who has one sometimes put my DD as well as her DS on the board with her DD in the front seat. She gets the older children to stand sideways on the board with their backs against each other & each of them looking over one side. They find it great fun & she doesn't seem to have any problems pushing them like that.
