what would be more important

Hi

I am hoping for some advice, please.

I am more less settled on a quinny for this baby, mainly because I like the maxi cosi car seat. However, I don't know what I consider more important, with the quinny zapp, is it more important that it folds in one piece meaning I would get the old quinny zapp, but it has no recline positions. Secondly is it more important that the seat can recline but then I have to make do with a two piece fold, which wouldn't be a problem but I know I'll probably travel in December, baby due in September.

I thought about the buzz but its so heavy, and on both my last dc I always ended up getting a buggy type and didn't get much use out of my bigger prams.

Please help! I know I'm being ridiculous giving this so much thought but I can't help myself

Oh option 3 buy an extra seat unit for travelling or just get the regular zapp, see how long I get out of the car seat and then how I go without the recline. This also means I'll be travelling in Dec with a 3 month old, no car seat and no recline, will have a sling though??

ok I'm backing away from the key board now .... :)

You do know that many other prams/buggies take a maxi-cosi car seat?

What exactly are you looking for in a pram/buggy?

Tooodlepip · 29/05/2012 14:11

Hi

Thank you milk for replying, appreciate it.

I want something small really, not to heavy, that also looks nice, I like the look of the quinny zapp.

Thats it really, oh I like the 3 wheels although this isn't set in stone

I have the quinny Zapp xtra and am really pleased with it. If using it from newborn then I'd consider the reclining seat a must-baby's shouldn't be in the carseat for more than two hours at a time. I don't find the 2 part fold much bother, as it is easy to fold, takes seconds and is very light. I think you can buy a travel bag for it if taking it away. My DD is 12 months and I mostly use it in the rear facing position still as she prefers that. The only down side is the basket is small and no where to hang a changing bag as it's a bit tippy!

5inthebed · 29/05/2012 17:24

Definitely need a recline for a baby well into their first yar. They say it's suitable from 6 months, but really it is no good.

Definitely go with the zapp xtra

Tiggywunkle · 29/05/2012 17:30

The recline is more important. I would buy a used Zapo chassis and use it for the car seat. I would also buy the Xtea seat for travelling but also home but if you do this buy another used chassis for it rather than using the same chassis. You are less likely to lose the pesky adaptors this way. Second hand Zapps can be well under £50. Why not consider a Zapo chassis for the car seat and something like a second hand Baby Jogger city Mini for travelling?

Tiggywunkle · 29/05/2012 17:34

Or even the BJCM instead of the Zapp with the car seat on!

5inthebed · 29/05/2012 19:03

Do BJCMs take maxi cosis now Tiggy?

I saw my first BJCM4 today, was so Envy as DS3 now too old for a pram (well not if I had my own way) but would definitely have loved one of those had they been out a couple of years ago.

Loved my BJCM when I had it, best pram ever.

HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 29/05/2012 19:54

Am I allowed to say I wouldn't get any sort of Quinny? :o I find the Zapp too rattly and I wouldn't particularly want to put a newborn in the bucket seat even if they do say it's suitable from birth. The Buzz is massive, really wide and heavy.

My suggestions are; BabyStyle Oyster, Baby Jogger City Mini (or GT version), Mutsy Evo, Mamas and Papas Urbo.

Tiggywunkle · 29/05/2012 20:18

Yes the BJCMs take Maxi Cosi car seats and a choice of three carrycots should you wish - but the seat is suitable from birth.

Tooodlepip · 29/05/2012 20:33

Hi

Thanks for the suggestions, I have looked at the bjcm, it looks good, not as pretty as the zapp though, I just need to find a local shop that sells one so as I can try it out.

Does the micro version of the bjcm recline and take a maxi cosi seat??

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 29/05/2012 21:31

No, the Micro only has a slight recline suitable from 6 months. I don't believe you can add car seat adaptors to the Micro but I will stand corrected if you can. I am wondering if the car seat adaptors which come with the carrycot mounting bracket work.
The BJCM isn't as pretty as the Zapp but it's much much more practical, nicer to push, more features, has storage, much much easier to open and fold, bigger seat, lie completely flat seat, huge hood etc.

khill3008 · 30/05/2012 09:33

I like you thought the BJCM wasn't a pretty pushchair, I don't really like 3 wheelers, I've had both the zapp & buzz & didn't keep either long!

However after reading everyone rave about the BJCM, & from recommendation from Tiggy & Hypatia (Thanks again!) I bought one last week - I love it!

In fact I have started walking the school run as I love pushing it so much!

Took it to the beach at the weekend too, any excuse & I'm out with it!
I am totally converted!

Wish I had bought it from birth instead of a Cam & Bee+, think of the money I would have saved!, Good job they had good re-sale value!

HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 30/05/2012 11:01

I think the purple is quite pretty.

khill3008 · 30/05/2012 11:10

That's the one I got!
I am going to add a liner to prettify it! I am completely sold on them now, wonder if my DH would notice if I got the 4 wheel version too!

Tiggywunkle · 30/05/2012 12:06

Just to add you can get custom hoods made for the BJCM. Theres some really lovely ones around.

Its funny how many people get the 3 wheel version and then want the 4 :)

milk · 31/05/2012 22:16

Have you looked at the Micralite Fastfold Superlite?

It is small, reclines, and takes a maxi-cosi :)

TsarinaTribbleVonTipsyPants · 02/06/2012 08:40

I think the city mini would take much more of a bashing than a zapp tbh.

I love my city mini, I'm totally sold on them. They fold up super quick and the fold is pretty small. It will take a maxi cosi car seat as well.

Angelico · 04/06/2012 00:36

Khill how was the BJCM on the beach? Was it a sandy beach? And could you push it rather than pull it?

khill3008 · 04/06/2012 08:24

Angelico, it was a sandy beach, thought it would be a struggle but we breezed on past everyone struggling with buggy's!
Only when the sand got quite deep did we have to pull the pushchair, but it is the best pushchair I have used on sand, it beat my Cameleon hands down!
I really cant rate the BJCM highly enough!

Angelico · 04/06/2012 10:52

Thanks, that's useful :) We were looking at the Baby Jogger Summit thing too but the city mini seems nice and light.
