Pushchairs
Please help me choose a pushchair...
TheQueenOfSheba · 28/05/2012 05:15
OK, so I have a shortlist and I need to make a decision. One of the main priorities for me is that I can fold it up and throw it in the back of the car. I shan't be doing much walking. So, here's my shortlist...
Mothercare Spin
No carrycot
£385
Quinny
No carrycot
£600
Silver Cross Surf
No carrycot
£600
iCandy Peach
Has carrycot
£790
Bugaboo
Has carrycot
£860.
Can anybody offer me any advice, please? I have tried to talk to DH about it, but he just wants me to get the cheapest one, typically.
Thanks.

I like my uppababy vista - it has a nice, big carrycot and the chair almost fully reclines and goes front and rear facing. All the features of the bugaboo but a lot less cost wise. I think it's a little heavier and has a wider wheel base, no tyres to deflate (I hate it when you are in a rush with crying baby and get a flat).
TheQueenOfSheba · 28/05/2012 05:23
Thanks Jnice, have never heard of this one. I'll go and check it out...
Jnice · 28/05/2012 05:24
Also, it will fold with the seat unit attached, I believe the bugaboo won't.
Tiggywunkle · 28/05/2012 10:21
Hmmm.... Which Quinny? Some you need a carrycot for, I know one you don't. The Silvercross Surf is much better with a carrycot TBH. I assume you mean the Bugaboo Cameleon too rather than the Bee based on price and no carrycot. The Surf has a small but wide chassis but a large seat that won't squash flat. It drove me nutty in the car. The Buzz is a big chunk to lift in and its wide. I am car based too and the Cameleon and Peach have been two of my favourites. They are both two piece folds but easy to do and put in the car.
Tiggywunkle · 28/05/2012 10:28
As Jnice has said the Vista is excellent too. Too spec for good money. But for the car, I would also look at the Easywalker June and Baby Jogger Versa which are both one piece folds and should be near enough the perfect pushchairs especially for car boots because of the neat and easy folds.
Tiggywunkle · 28/05/2012 10:29
Sorry, just to add, the Uppababy Cruz is a bit neater for the car and should be here in July.
Tangointhenight · 28/05/2012 10:31
I pushed pretty much them all, took pram hunting very seriously and the best one, full suspension, is the Jane Rider or 3 wheel version is the trider....can't sing the praises of Jane prams enough!
Tangointhenight · 28/05/2012 10:32
And they are are compact...Jane are releasing a new pram called a twone which is a rider but can turn into a double if you have another baby!!

"I can fold it up and throw it in the back of the car"
I have the Mothercare Spin and I would not recommend it for this purpose.
chocolatetester1 · 28/05/2012 14:56
I have a mothercare spin. Throwing it in the boot is ok if your boot is a reasonable size but it's fairly heavy. One of my criteria for a buggy was does it fit in the car!
Good points - love the spin facility for facing both ways, brilliant hood, very comfy when DS was little, he wouldn't sleep in anythiing else! We had the carry cot bit in the co-sleeper cot for ages! I know in your list you said the M/care spin doesn't have a separate carry cot but the seat bit lies flat and is nice and deep (protective in shops etc).
Negative - the spin thing juts down into the basket and this really limits the capacity. My boy is quite tall and from 16 months was cramped in the cosy toes. Now it's good weather this isn't a problem but his feet already hang off the bottom at 19 months. Also, a couple of screws fell out. I was able to out them back in ok but I check them regularly. They hold the top of the frame to the bottom so they are important - if I hadn't noticed, it would have become a problem. This is not a one off as a stranger in a cafe once asked if I'd had that exact problem as her M/care spin had it too! I carry a screwdriver around now in the baby bag! I haven't had the problem now for a bout 10 months.
If you can, it's worth going to Kiddicare in Peterborough to try out all the ones you want to look at. The staff are very knowledgeable.

Oh please pick mine!!! The OBaby Zezu pramette I love it and it is not at all overpriced. Here is why:
- It fits in the boot of my ford fiesta
2. Its carry seat thingy is one unit which starts as a flat carrycot but converts to pushchair seat, so need for buying extras - just use from birth until no longer walking.
3. It can turn on a sixpence, very manoeuvrable and has one handle not two seperate ones, so can steer niftily round anything even while talking on phone and holding dog lead with other hand
4. £300 pounds from Boots (other retailers available) and you get 30,000 points on your boots card to spend on yummy things for you or cute baby gear.

5. It will face you or outwards in both carrycot and pushchair seat position
6. Has many angles to recline at for baby naps etc (fab if your baby has reflux like mine did and could lie flat but at a slight angle in the carry cot to help keep milk down!)
7. Loads of other reasons but I'll start boring you!!
I have gone miles and miles in mine and ds is now one month away from 2, never had any problems despite heavy use, and it will be used for next due in Oct with buggy board for him. Best money I ever spent!

Congratulations!
TheonlyWayisGerard · 28/05/2012 15:20
I have a Spin. I like it, especially the pramette part. It fits in a KA boot without a parcel shelf! Basket is a bit rubbish, but so is the one on the Surf and Quinny. I also have a BJCM now DD is a bit older, I love this, can be used with a carrycot, so maybe another to consider?
TheQueenOfSheba · 28/05/2012 15:25
Checked out the ObayZezu... look at these colours! Gorgeous!
GinPalace · 28/05/2012 21:53
OOOoooo fab colours!! Don't think they had those when I was buying or I'd have had that. I can't recommend it enough - though if it had a cup holder it would be perfect!
TheQueenOfSheba · 29/05/2012 04:50
Yeah, I can't decide whether to get the red or the green. What does everybody else think ?
Best of all, it's on special offer on Amazon. You get the pram and the car seat for £273.01. Just need to decide on a colour then I can order it.
Thanks so much for your help
GinPalace · 29/05/2012 11:38
OOOOoooo pleased you thought it was a good suggestion. Out of all my mum pals it is agreed I have picked the best all-round choice, even though some had spent much more money. Hope you like it as much as I do!
I'd go for green myself 'cos I am a total sucker for anything green!
Does for either sex if you have another later, whereas I think, although red is boy/girl, it looks more girly with the spots too, perhaps?
GinPalace · 29/05/2012 11:45
p.s I used a moses basket mattress in mine while it was in carry cot mode for extra comfort. It was perfect fit.
GinPalace · 29/05/2012 11:46
That is an amazing deal from Amazon
Bet your DH won't believe his luck and will be amazed at your bargain hunting abilities! Don't for get to collect the brownie points for that one!
TheQueenOfSheba · 29/05/2012 16:13
Yeah, I'm chuffed . Can't decide on colour as I like them both. This is our last baby and it is a girl.
