Quinny Zapp V's petite Star Zia Stoller

I have a chameleon travel system so need a lightweight portable stroller for holidays etc. Ds will be 7 months when we go away for the first time so the patent facing option in the quinny is appealing but I'd really appreciate some views on either?

The Parent facing option is good on the zapp, but I would buy used as the fold on a new one is unbelieveably stiff! Does the zapp have to be folded in two pieces?

Onacollisioncourse · 23/05/2012 10:39

It folds in one piece with the option of removing the wheels. Not sure about the elite star will go and google.
Not sure if the Zapp reclines?

The zapp plus reclines and parent faces, the basic zapp doesn't do either. If you were planning on the basic one i would say get the Zia, purely because of the recline function. I had a zia and aside from the BJCM, it's the easiest pushchair i've ever owned!

Tiggywunkle · 23/05/2012 11:07

The Zapp Xtra does recline - the regular Zapp doesnt. The Zapp Xtra parent and outward faces, but the regular Zapp doesn't. The Zapp Xtra folds in 2 pieces, but the regular Zapp is a one piece. There is no official travel bag for the Zapp Xtra as far as I am aware either - you would have to find something to fit it into. I agree totally about buying a second hand Zapp chassis - to get one thats loose and not stiff - and stripping the fabric off and putting the Xtra seat on top.

To be honest I would be inclined to go for the Petit ZiaX which has the reclining seat and adjustable handles. Or else look at a Maxi-Cosi Noa which is one of the most useful little pushchairs that I own.

Thanks Tiggy , couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the reclining Zapp! :o

AmandinePoulain · 23/05/2012 15:25

I had an original Zia (the one before they did a height adjustable one) and it was good in that it folded flat and small, and reclined, but once dd got to about age 2 and got heavier I found that the handles were too low and it became very uncomfortable to push (I'm only 5' 3 so not tall either!). It didn't feel that sturdy when she got bigger either. I haven't tried the new Zia with adjustable handles though, how much higher do they go?

Ihateparties · 23/05/2012 19:47

I had an original zia too, I found that past 20lbs it became really odd to handle and I stopped using it. Before that point it was great though, had a tiny car boot so I used it loads.

Biscuitsandtea · 28/05/2012 06:47

I just came on to ask the exact same question.

We bought a zapp for use at the grandparents for ds1, got it second hand and it was so so useful. We ended up using it ourselves once we got to the stage of only occasionally needing a pushchair. But the only thing I didn't like was the fact it didn't recline. Incidentally, we didn't have any problems with it being uncomfortable to push or anything once DS got bigger (and we used it occasionally up until he was about 3.3)

But for ds2 I was thinking of getting a Zia so it would recline (and have a little basket underneath). I have to say though I'm a bit put off if it was hard to handle once they got a bit bigger.

We have a McLaren Techno XT (as well as out bugaboo cam) which reclines but I found the compact fold of the quinny so handy when I wanted to put other stuff in the car too. The McLaren was great but even in my c-max boot it had to go in diagonally so seemed to take up a lot of space.

Does the zapp xtra fold down compactly too?

Biscuitsandtea · 28/05/2012 06:53

Also, maybe I am being daft but I looked on the mothercare and kiddicare websites to get an idea of RRPs for the petit star and neither website seemed to sell them? If be looking to get something second hand but find it weird that they're not selling them new? Confused

Tiggywunkle · 28/05/2012 10:15

The Zapp Xtra is exactly the same chassis as the regular Zapp. It's just had the fabric stripped off (and you can add the fabric back on). So yes the chassis is compact. The seat is flat and would just lie flat or on its side somewhere. I always recommend buying an older Zapp chassis for the loose mechanism as new Zapps can be incredibly stiff, and then buy the Xtra seat seperately to go on top.

Biscuitsandtea · 28/05/2012 10:18

Ah intriguing! Smile

So I already have a Zapp old chassis (and slightly-dirty-after-plenty-of-use seat) and I could just buy a new seat to go on the old chassis that would recline.......

SchrodingersMew · 28/05/2012 21:36

I have a Zapp and a Zia Blush. Definitely the Zia, my DS loves it and hates the Zapp because the seat on the Zapp isn't deep enough and it doesn't recline at all.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 01:43

Ah really? May I ask how old your DS is? Have you hand any handling problems with the Zia as mentioned up-thread?

Biscuitsandtea · 29/05/2012 01:45

And does anyone know what the difference is between the Zia and the Zia+? I think adjustable height handles is one thing?

SchrodingersMew · 29/05/2012 02:15

I haven't had any problems at all with the Zia. :) And at least there is a tiny basket underneath! Something I really hate about the Zapp, we have a basket added on but there is no room at all.

My DS is only 8 months though.

SchrodingersMew · 29/05/2012 02:17

Oh, forgot to mention my DS is well over a stone and a half and still no problems there.

FitMum87 · 30/03/2018 15:51

I prefered the quinny zapp for the look of it but it collapsed and my daughter landed face down (still strapped in)

Binned it after that,
