BJCM City Mini 2012 - new features?

I need some advice as I've taken delivery of my new BJCM this morning, but I'm confused about the features it's supposed to have..

It's definitely the 2012 model, as it has the easy access basket and auto-lock (and the box says so Grin ) but it seems to have lost the upright strap from 2011, and doesn't have the PE board in the seat which I saw in a video review before I bought it. (Note: It was an American video review from a buggy shop)

I'm still very happy with it, but I'm just a bit disappointed that these little things are missing.

Does anyone know if it's supposed to have been manufactured differently in the UK?

It certainly sounds fishy but the experts here will sort you out Grin. Where did you get it?

I've just realised I've got 2 straps on the back which I assume are the sit upright straps but I don't know how to work them Blush

edwardcullensotherwoman · 08/05/2012 14:23

I hope so Grin I got it from preciouslittleone.

Yes they are the ones (had a play with the 2011 in Mothercare last week!) From what I remember the webbing pulls out and wraps around the handlebar then velcroes in place, to hold the seat at almost 90 degrees. Tbh I'm not too bothered about not having this - I can't think of any occasion I'd need to use it Confused But the missing PE boeard in the seat is bothering me a little bit. I wonder if I can fashion anything myself?

I know people have done that, and there is a thread on here about it inc dimensions, but you shouldn't have to if there's been a mistake.

Ps cheers re the sit upright straps, I think I've figured it out now Grin

Tiggywunkle · 08/05/2012 15:09

Hmmm...I had heard that the sit upright strap had gone on the 2012, and only this morning e-mailed to find out why and if it was just on the BJCM4 (which is what I was hearing about). Is yours a BJCM3 or 4?

I have just phoned up to ask about the PE board as well because thats a bit of a shock too, and hope to get an answer. It seems a bit daft to take away an improvement!

I found the sit upright straps really useful for my eldest - they really made a difference to her. You can sometimes buy PE boards from Kooltrade but the last I heard there were none in stock. The PE board is just a piece of plastic board. TBH if you were to open the back up - I think you can remove the frame?? or somehow could fashion a piece of thick cardboard to go in the back or even get a piece of plywood made to cut?????

When I hear more I will let you know.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 08/05/2012 18:02

Thanks Tiggy :) Mine is the BJCM 3.

It's got the PE board in the back of the seat, but on the video review I saw of the 2012 model, they specifically pointed out that a PE board had now been added to the seat itself (under the bum). I'm not sure if it might have just been for the american ones though (the only decent video I could find was american - the strollerguru.)

I haven't seen a PE board under the childs bottom - only the back. Kooltrade are investigating the missing sit upright straps :S

edwardcullensotherwoman · 08/05/2012 20:58

Hmm, it must be an american model thing then. It was definitely on the 2012 - the video was comparing it to the 2011.
Thanks for that Tiggy , I tried googling but couldn't get any of the information I actually wanted, let alone find out who I needed to contact!

Sorry to hijack, but could someone please explain a bit more about these sit upright straps, or link to some instructions? We've just bought a second hand BJCM double (although it looks new really!), which was bought last August (we have the receipt). I'm imagining our model must have these, but since we don't have a manual, I can't be sure. Many thanks!

Safmellow · 09/05/2012 17:23

I've got a BJCM 4 in stone/black, not sure if it is 2011 or 2012 model, and it doesn't have upright straps.

This is the only pic I could find

I think they wrap around the frame to bring the seat back into a more upright position.

My DD seems fine without them but she is very small, might be a miss when she becomes a toddler.

ThePetiteMummy · 09/05/2012 18:42

Thanks Mellow, I'll have to investigate ours later. We haven't started using it yet, as dc2 not due until July, but want to familiarise myself with it all! Dd is also tiny, & I must say she seems quite happy in the regular most upright position, so don't think it'll be an issue.

Tiggywunkle · 09/05/2012 23:53

Thats ok Edward I will let you know when I hear anything.

This is the rear view of a 2011 BJCM4 with the sit upright strap dangling on the LH side. It's velcroed on the right hand side (stored ie not in use). You push the seat up as far as you can, and then strap this around the frame. I would only suggest you use it when your LO has stopped napping otherwise you have to undo it to recline the seat. But its really useful for older toddlers who want to be sat more upright. It makes quite a considerable difference to the seating position. This is the sit upright strap applied on the girls seat, but not on the boys. The seat the boy is in, is upright. This is a 2011 BJCMDouble.

ThePetiteMummy · 10/05/2012 00:17

Thanks Tiggy, that makes it all clear. Just hauled ours out from under the stairs, & it turns out it does have them! It makes quite a difference to the seat position, so thank you for that. Hoping dd won't give up napping just yet though! Sorry to hijack again Edward, but Tiggy, whilst you're 'here',do you know if it's necessary to popper the orange straps onto the frame every time you unfold it? I can't see that they serve any real purpose, but I do remember them being pointed out on a You Tube video I watched. Many thanks. Smile

nearlyreadytopop · 13/05/2012 18:07

just spotted this thread and Im so glad I did. I just got a BJCM and the only problem I have is that the seat didnt go upright enough! I did wonder what those little straps where for Grin thank you Tiggywunkle

nearlyreadytopop · 13/05/2012 18:08

just to ask, what is a PE board? Confused

Tiggywunkle · 13/05/2012 20:33

Edward, I may stand corrected because my GT has a PE board in the bottom but at no point has anyone apart from you mentioned it :) I am going to find out more abput if its in the other Baby Joggers for 2012. But I was surprised to spot it!

Tiggywunkle · 13/05/2012 20:35

Nearlyready - theres a bit about the PE board higher up, but it's a thin sheet of corrugated plastic - just like a cardboard box. The newer versions have these in the seat back, and seemingly also in the bottom area to give rigidity to the seat.

girlpasty · 28/05/2012 12:03

Hello,

Just to let you know that I also have a new BJCM 2012 4 wheeler and I emailed them as also was expecting the sit up straps and re-inforced seat. They replied with the following:

"The Upright straps were discontinued for 2012 as it made the seat sit too upright, the base board was on added to the City Mini GT and not the Mini 3 or 4 wheel"

Thought the straps bit was quite funny as you do have a choice to use them or not! However, we don't have a baby yet let alone one who needs to sit upright so think we will see how we get on and improvise if necessary.

Worth thinking about when you purchase though - for me I wanted the lock so the 2012 is worth it. Maybe removing those other features edges it closer to the Britax B-Agile though (which is much cheaper!!).

Hope this helps.

Lisa

Safmellow · 28/05/2012 16:49

Thanks for the info x

Tiggywunkle · 28/05/2012 21:12

The biggest issue with the B-Agile though is that babies and young toddlers ie under 2, slump really badly in the B-Agile seat. The B-Agile is fab for older toddlers and in some ways the features are better - the lock is better, the fabrics are nice, I like the hood pocket and foam handle. But for me child comfort comes first, and I simply could not get my son sitting correctly in the B-Agile.
