Double... Spotted in John Lewis for £549.99

Doing price check... :)

milk · 05/05/2012 17:08

It is only out in August so when one of the stores reduce it they will all price match :) Until then however, the few shops that are allowing pre-order are charging £549.99 :(

milk · 05/05/2012 17:19

If you have any unopened items lying around in your house that John Lewis sell, they will take it back in exchange for vouchers :)

I took this back the other day:

www.johnlewis.com/230843555/Product.aspx = it has been lying unopened in our kitchen cupboard for almost 2 years- someone bought it for us for our wedding- so I took it back and got £68 in JL vouchers Grin

Noooooooooo

Thanks milk Smile

And I wanted a carry cot to go with it Sad

So if you bought stuff (from Mothercare etc) for your first child and never used it, John Lewis will take it back for vouchers if they stock that item (check website to see if they stock it)

milk · 05/05/2012 17:21

When do you need it?

newtonupontheheath · 05/05/2012 17:23

Maybe I could just sell ds?! Then if only need a single Grin plus I'd have a healthy deposit!!

Unfortunately we've nothing to return to JL. Although will probably get eBaying to raise some funds

Could you ask parents/in-laws/siblings to pinch in, saying you don't want new baby presents, just a contribution to the pram fund :)

milk · 05/05/2012 17:29

For my first pram, both sets of grandparents paid half each :)

newtonupontheheath · 05/05/2012 17:52

Yeah...to be honest, I've already set my heart on it careless so we'll find a way! It's just a LOT more than I was expecting. We don't need furniture this time (PIL bought for ds) so if they ask us what to buy, I'll ask for a contribution to the Pram Fund.

I'm determined to have the one I want this time after my DMum persuaded me to have a crappy one last time!

I was determined to get the Baby Jogger City Select! I did this buy buying the display model in John Lewis.

If I had bought it all brand new it would have cost me an eye watering £739.93, whereas I got it for £499.99 by buying the display model, plus I had John Lewis vouchers worth £62 (we had unopened Chopping boards from our wedding 2 years ago that they still sell so I took them back), so I paid £437.99 Grin

newtonupontheheath · 05/05/2012 19:51

I just saw your thread... Very well done, good bartering!

I think mothercare do that baby club thing where you get 10% off if you sign up and pay in installments (?) they also price match... Grin

OP posts:
milk · 05/05/2012 20:06

I do not know about the 10% discount, but I do know you can pay in instalments.

As for the price match- they only do it for other stores, not internet sites. That being said, there are plenty of stores that sell at discounted prices, like The Oxford Pram Centre (you don't have to go to Oxford, as they have stock info on their website- and as they have a physical store they count for the price match).

WannaSplitAPinapple · 06/05/2012 07:40

Mothercare will price match other websites. Just take in a print out of where you have seen it or even show them on your phone when in store.

milk · 06/05/2012 07:47

WannaSplitAPinapple- Really?!? Shock

www.mothercare.com/price-match/services-ms-price-match,default,pg.html?cm_re=homepage--centralcontent--pricematch

My mistake :( but that is so cool Grin

newtonupontheheath · 06/05/2012 08:02

We've had 2 car seats price matched at mothercare- they were £20 odd more there than halfords, but as mothercare is closer to us, we went there and the second time, when it wasn't in stock, they also delivered for free! I know people moan about mothercare but it's so convenient for branded stuff as you know it will cost the same as elsewhere.

lagoonhaze · 06/05/2012 08:02

The only thing I like about mothercare is it's price promise!!

Sites like bambino direct and preciouslittleones I have got many things price matched. Which is good as those sites have terrible reps and I would never have used them!

lagoonhaze · 06/05/2012 08:04

Plus if ordering online or over phone you get a £10 for each different item they price match!

FeelingHip · 02/06/2012 08:59

Hello, Just thinking of BJCM GT for 21 month old and newborn (due Oct)...do you think that's a better choice that P&T Explorer? What's the difference between standard and GT BJ? Thanks!! Choosing a pram is not as much fun second time around

Tiggywunkle · 02/06/2012 23:26

This should help with the differences between the City Mini and GT. I know they are singles, but the differences translate to the double. I have had the City Mini and Elite doubles and I didn't like the fixed handlebar on the Double. It wasn't an issue with a single, but you push a double with two hands some times, if not all the time, and for me having the right handle height was critical. The Elite and GT have an adjustable handlebar. But the GT isn't as heavy as the Elite either. The GT has the handbrake, bigger seat, more leg room, more padded seat, small 'forever air' tyres and is generally better than the City Mini.

What is right for you is a fundamental question - do you prefer a side by side or a tandem - both for you and for your children? I think for most people it is easy to answer - and also it may be that one is better for you and one is better for your children. So that needs weighing up too. Once you know whether you want a side by side or a tandem, then you can consider all the many options :)
