Hi,

Does anyone have any tips for pushchairs with a detachable carseat that can be used from birth? We will probably leave the chassis in the shed space but i will need to carry the baby up 4 flights of stairs so could do with something easy to detach and carry.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Theres a huge range of pushchairs which take a car seat these days but I would look for a light one! I know the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix is one of the lightest - I am sure something is lighter too - I know Maxi Cosi make a lighter one but it doesn't go on many travel systems.

However I am questioning how you plan to use a car seat on a chassis? If you are leaving the house to walk then the baby really shouldn't be in a car seat. The most a baby should be in a car seat is 2 hours and I believe it's much lower for a newborn (30 mins I think?) . To be honest if you are walking then you really need a carrycot or lie flat seat and ultimately you will need a sling as potentially carrying a 6 month plus heavy potentially non sitting (?) baby upstairs followed by a crawling even heavier baby is going to be agonising. Yes you could keep the car seat at the bottom if the stairs to swap over when you arrive back to carry the baby up in, but have you ever tried lifting a 10 month old (or even less in one?) The thought of carrying that weight up even one flight of stairs is enough to keep me permanently inside! I do think a good easy to put on sling is an essential for you.

Have a think about all this and have a Google for the lightest infant car seat and we can help you match it up with a pushchair if that's really what you need.

Just to add there have been at least two similar threads in recent months on this forum if you fancy a search!

Thanks for the info Tiggy. This is our first and i havent done much research yet, feel a bit overwhelmed by all the info out there.

From what you say, a sling may be better for carrying baby up and down the stairs to transfer into a lie flat seat at the bottom. We were going to look at carrycots as well.

I just wasn't sure if there were car seats that were suitable for this kind of situation.

Your info has been very helpful. Thank you again.
