Maxi cosi seat and base for Mamas & Papas Sola??

hufflepuffle · 29/04/2012 13:06

Hello! The more i search, the more confused I become!!! Hoping someone else has already been using this combination! We have decided for multiple reasons to get the Sola pushchair etc. Despite combination of good reviews and bad! Know that we can buy M&P carseat, but more keen to have Maxi Cosi seat with one isofix base which will still be suitable when we go up to next carseat size. Like everything in this field, there are so MANY choices and advice in stores is conflicting!

I would really appreciate if anyone has been using thus combo and can tell me which seats and bases work.

Thank you!!
Xx

I'm not 100% sure as I've never tried it personally, but I believe the cybex Aton adapters allow you to use a maxi cosi cabrio or pebble. Although this won't have been safety tested so could invalidate your warranty.

Whatever you do don't buy a primo viaggio car seat for a newborn. I had one and it was awful, far too upright and my DD constantly had head loll in it.

hufflepuffle · 29/04/2012 16:47

Hi, thank you for reply. M&P said primo viaggio good to allow one base for follow on seat, but i did not like look of either. Thought their aton cybex seat looked v small too. Says in catalogue is compatible with maxi cosi, but not sure which one, and would like base to last. Thanks for info on primo,i appreciate that.

It's compatible with group 0+ Maxi Cosi carseats. The connections are the same for all seats and the Aton as well as plenty of other carseats.

Dandileeno · 06/05/2012 22:43

I'm having the same problem!! I keep getting more and more confused each time I look! Hmm

Tiggywunkle · 07/05/2012 00:38

I am not great on M&P car seats, but what I do know is that I wouldn't get too hung up on a car seat base lasting. There are plenty of next stage car seats to choose from and in some ways its better you aren't tied down to M&P as personally I would never choose one. A regular next stage isofix car seat will plug directly into the isofix attachments without needing a bulky base / leg in the car. So personally I would focus on the group 0+ car seat and worry about the next seat later and lose the base unless there is a particular reason for keeping it eg extended rear facing (and I know nothing about that!!).

lagoonhaze · 07/05/2012 09:05

Im assuming you are thinking of purchasing a family fix base so you can get the pebble forward facing seat and maxi cosi infant carrier.

I would strongly urge you to look at extended rearfacing car seats. They are 5 times safer. There is are growing market for these seats as more and more people realise the benefits of it against physical risks to your child.

The maxi cosi infant seat isn't that big a seat - my 6mth old is starting to outgrow it. Shes on the 50 percentile and has two inches til her head is at top. There are better infant carriers.

lagoonhaze · 07/05/2012 09:08

Ps according to google search the Aton adaptors for sola do fit the maxi cosi.

Here's my thread about ERF with some good links

We have the Cabriofix (for the Oyster), and did buy a base for convenience, but we ditched the idea of the Familyfix base for exactly the reasons lagoonhaze describes - I don't want my chld to be forward facing as soon as they outgrow the Cabriofix, and the Familyfix base locks you into getting a Maxi Cosi forward facing seat for the next size up.

lagoonhaze · 07/05/2012 09:25

The other thing with a family fix base is if you have another child within 4 yrs you will want the base for the next one! It's all a big marketing con.

I did get the maxi cosi easyfix base. It has been fab for school run and with 3 other children at weekends made life so much easier. I got mine for £60 as mothercare price matched it to amazon for me. As I ordered online/over phone I got a £10 voucher too as part of their price promise.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 07/05/2012 14:18

Yes -- the Familyfix sounds like a sensible idea when you first get introduced to it, but the longer you look, the more pointless it seems.

hufflepuffle · 09/05/2012 17:02

Thank you all for useful replies! Sorry, we have been away and i have not been on. We have changed our minds actually and decided we prefer the oyster now! After 2 hours in another pram shop, we found it more sturdy and taller as we are both over 6ft! I have also been daunted by M&P reviews generally, on many sites. I will have to look in to the seats more, by the sounds of it. We had ourselves convinced on maxi cosi with family fx base but did not realise or think about next size seat being used from v young and becoming forward facing so early. As several people have said, it is easier to buy a car!! Thankfully we have plenty of time, only 17 weeks, but moving fast!!
Thanks again!

I would think carefully about which second stage seat you want, too. I didn't go for rearfacing in the end but did choose the Kiddy seat with impact shield. You might also choose a seat which is compatible until age 12 to get the height out of it.

Tiggywunkle · 09/05/2012 23:55

If you like the Oyster DO look at the Mutsy Evo. They are very very similar, but the Evo has a better seating position for the child. It has a very tall handle too. The carrycot is included. I think the price is £399 which is excellent when you see what fantastic quality it is, and how much attention to detail. I feel its better than the Oyster but yet very similar.

hufflepuffle · 11/05/2012 20:00

Thank you Tiggywunkle, funny I have just seen that on another post! I have not seen Mutsy in any shops i have been in, we are Northern Ireland. I will get online and see if can find any stockists. Who said this was easy?! thanks again all for your input, getting more confused by the week! X

I found the family fix base on kiddicare at only £30 more than the other base is in most places so if it is easier to use I would get it but not necessary use it for the next seat as you would need it for a younger baby. There are so many choices for the next stage up seat and really it is best to wait to make that discussion as lot of things might need to be taken into account like
1 is you baby sick a lot or do you let them eat in the car, as if you do you will need one with a easy to wash cover.
2 Do you go in the car a lot and for long journeys, One that reclines will be good.

  1. Do you go in lots of different car. weight and ease of use will be very important.
  2. how many children do you want if it is more than 2 or you have twins in the family buying seats that you might be able to get three seats across that back may be a good plan.
  3. If you have storage boxes in the floor of your car you may not be able to have seats with a support leg
hufflepuffle · 13/05/2012 11:27

We really are changeable......! After a fruitless search for Mutsy Evo, we came across Upababy Vista and the search is over! We love this pram on all fronts! It is a bit bigger perchance than some but it s just so sensible! I have dexterity problems and the ease of use to swop components is a gift. It is also v well made. No longer considering maxi cosi, thank you all for advice. Liking a less well known brand called Besafe with own isofix. V helpful staff and online research showing that it seems v safe. We are frgetting about the one base suits all idea and will look in to next stage seat more carefully, especially rear facing. Thank you everyone who made me think a bit more! X

Besafe is an excellent make of car seats - they also do a rear facing group 1 seat (Up to 18kg or about 4 years old) which has really good side impact protection, an area where some RF G1 seats are lacking.
