Pushchair chassis for 2 maxi cosi car seats?

I use an 18 month old DD and twins who will be arriving any day now.

I've swapped DD from her Bebe Confort Loola Up travel system to a Maclaren XLR for times when we are out with her alone (Loola wasn't 'upright' enough for her and she was becoming a little frustrated). Chose the XLR as it can be used from birth so we can also use it for one of the twins if we need to.

Also have invested in an ABC Everest Adventure triple pushchair for when we're out with all three children. The toddler seat is easily removed do it can be used as a twin pushchair when DD is in nursery etc.

So here's my dilemma...

Do I nee a chassis that I can clip the twin's baby seats into as well? If so, does anyone have any recommendations?

I remember how useful if found being able to transfer DD from car to pushchair in her car seat for the first 6 months and realised that I wont have this option with the twins unless I buy an additional chassis.

Cost is a big issue though as, even using eBay and buying second hand, I've spent £850 on pushchairs in the last couple of months already!

Any suggestions would be gratefully received! :)

It isn't recommended that babies stay in a car seat for more than hr or 2 max per day. Especially as your expecting twins they may be smaller than a singleton also. The sitting position in a car seat can reduce breathing rate which is why this is not recommended with young children. If your using in car etc tbh that is probably enough and they would greatly benefit from being put directly in pram/ cot/ basket etc instead.

I'm not being judgy at all on people who do use car seat on chassis but have researched this topic greatly and hope you don't mind me sharing.

Thanks for your reply and I agree but I'm not necessarily talking about long periods of time in the car seats. I'm thinking more of dropping DD off at nursery (5 minutes in the car then walk from the car park to take DD inside nursery building and the reverse at pick up time), nipping into a supermarket, visiting a local baby group (my nearest twin club is around 20 minutes drive away), nipping to doctors surgery for midwife appointments, etc, etc.

In situations such as the above it feels like it will be much easier to clip the car seats into a frame for the short journey from car to wherever rather than transfer sleeping babies from car to pram.

iCandy peach blossom will take 2 maxi cosi seats, not sure what they go for on eBay

Possibly, but I never had a compatible pushchair/car seat and it wasn't an issue. DS soon dropped off again as soon as we started moving, and I think it helped him be a more resilient sleeper, because once he was in the second stage car seat, I could take him out without waking him :)

However if you have the money and you think the convenience would be worth it, why not? You could always re-sell later, and you'll probably want a double buggy in 18 months' time or so.

Babyjogger city select - used with my DTs from birth (2 maxi cosi car seats, carry cots, seats) and now they're almost 2 still loads of life left in it.

I think iCandy Pear chassis can be found on eBay fairly easily and would probably suit you very well. Other options are iCandy Peach, Easywalker Duowalker, TFK Twinner Twist Duo I think, First Wheels City Twin, Mima Kobi, Bugaboo Donkey, Mountain Buggy Duet and Duo I think.

I never used a carseat on a pushchair but I would do in your shoes for those situations.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Perhaps I should hold fire and see how I cope without it first? I think the iCandy looks like a good option if we do go for it though.

I agree with hypatia, I'm normally on the side of babies should be in car seats for as little time as possible, but in your situation I think it would be extremely useful
I have a 19 month old and the last thing I'd want to do as we just popped in somewhere is have her running about or whining while I faff getting newborn twins into carrycots!

Good luck Smile

I couldn't have managed without the car seat / travel system option. There are ideals, and there is real life, and it all depends on your own circumstances and believe me for the nursery run, I would be using a chassis I could clip two seats on easily too!! Its hard enough getting two children out of the car (one into a pushchair, let alone two!).
I think Hypatia has covered most options. I think the Peach Blossom is probably the easiest, or the Mima Kobi (but you say cost is an issue) with the Pear and BJCS as the second easiest. Yes, you can put car seats on side by sides, but only the Donkey is easy - and adding car seats to the Donkey makes it incredibly wide!!!

See that's exactly what I've been thinking. Short trips like the nursery run will be a nightmare won't they.

Storage could also be an issue but I guess I could just leave it in the boot of the car?

Gosh, hope I haven't been too hasty spending all that money on the ABC? Well hopefully I'll make most of my money back when we sell it on and it will be useful to have it when we're out with all three children.

I loved my ABC - its a beast as you will know - but its fab to walk with. I made a profit on mine when I sold it :)

I would simply leave the chassis for the car seats in the car and only use it for that purpose. I couldn't fit my ABC in the boot of my car! The fold was too long.
