Is this the same as the Kids Kargo Duellette?

My friend is looking for a pushchair for her new baby due in August.

She's looking at this

dimples duo

We think it looks like the Duellette? She's off for a play with it at the weekend but I wondered what you pushchair gurus thought?

I am trying to find out for you if it is a rebranded Duellette and will get back to you. Certainly, having had the Duellette, there are a lot of similarities even in the detail. There's no mention of it being able to take a car seat though and there is a tandem raincover (which is fab) and the footmuffs.

My only query would be the "suitable for a newborn" part. The Duellette currently isn't suitable from birth unless a car seat is used although the maker had hoped to get it safety tested. I would get your friend to read the labels carefully because that is where it specifies from 6 months on the Duellette, and it may be that this is indeed suitable from birth, but go by what the label says, not what anyone tells her. It may be suitable from birth, as the Duellette is, with a car seat, but your friend needs to ask.

If I find out more, I will get back to you.

Thanks - we are going on Saturday to a smiths for a look. It's a very good price! And it has 2 footmuffs and the raincover included.

Have a read of this about the Kidz Kargo Duellette first. I think its important to know the limitations to this pushchair. I think its fantastic and I really love the parent facing options. But note things like the buckle under the upper seat when both seats are parent facing; or look to see if the lower seat parent facing can push into the underneath of the upper seat when that is forward facing. The first configuration is ideal probably until the lower child is say 12 months old. I think the children facing each other is probably the best configuration all round. Look as well for side to side movement in the chassis. There was a little with my Duellette which was minimal and fine, but I have seen much worse with other brands, and if this is made by someone else, then I would see if you notice it.

Now I feel like I'm going to be a MN pushchair reviewer !

Go for it :) It would be good to know what you think TBH. I dont think I have heard anyone else's opinions yet....

hathorinareddress69 · 17/04/2012 14:33

It does look awfully like the Duellette doesn't it? I'm not imagining the similarities?

No, you aren't. It's nearly identical.

hathorkicksass · 18/04/2012 14:43

Quick update - Smyths don't have them in stock yet they'll be in w/c 07/05.

They are going to ring my friend and let her know when they are in so she can come and have a look.

Dimples is Smyths own brand and they do get other pushchair manufacturers to make a pushchair similar to another and re-brand them as Dimples.

Sorry not more use!

Tiggywunkle · 18/04/2012 15:16

Thats interesting though. Thanks!

hathorkicksass · 18/04/2012 15:33

As an example, my friend was told that this one www.smythstoys.com/travel-system-327sc/babylo-max-pushchair-116006itm.aspx is smyths, but it's "very similar" to an i-candy something?

Tiggywunkle · 18/04/2012 17:07

I know the Duellette was being seen by lots of shops so I am not at all surprised that it has been rebranded. The manufacturer made another niche market pushchair which got rebranded by several people.

Tiggywunkle · 19/04/2012 13:14

Just to say that the Duellette and the Dimples Duo don't come from the same distributor although are very similar and are probably made in the same place. The Duellette can now apparently take two car seats, the Dimples Duo can't. I am not clear on whether the Dimples Duo can take one car seat, or whether they have had their seat units modified to make them suitable from birth, but I would be interested to know if anyone finds out.

hathorkicksass · 19/04/2012 13:16

According to the woman in Smyths yesterday, apparently, she said she thought it would take Smyths own car seat. Not sure whether that would be just one or two.

But I'll get Carol to take a look at that when she goes for a nosy.

Tiggywunkle · 19/04/2012 15:00

That woud be great :) I look forward to hearing how you get on :)

hathorisverytired · 08/05/2012 12:25

Tiggy - just a wee update - they still don't have the duo in stock but this is now on the website

Carol and I are planning a visit on Friday (as long as they come into stock)

Tiggywunkle · 08/05/2012 14:36

Thats an interesting one. It looks very basic but yet looks like it could work well. There seems to be enough leg room for the lower child - all be it in the basket. I might have to take a look!

Ihateparties · 25/06/2012 22:43

hathorisverytired, did you see the dimples duo in the end? Have you got any updates??

There is a useful photo now on the smyths site that shows the top seat lying flat and the toddler seat down below sitting upright.. if this is possible then that would be rather amazing!

Tiggywunkle · 01/07/2012 21:59

I have seen the Dimples Duo and it HAS got a lie flat seat so is suitable from birth and I am jumping up and down about it because I always loved the Kidz Kargo Duellette but this is the Duellette but better!!!

I liked the seating positions on the KK Duellette, but the lie flat option is fab. The lie flat seat (there is only one so it is not a twin option) can go in either upper or lower positions. I didn't have long to look so I don't know whether I would kick the lower seat, but with the seat on top, there should be plenty of room for the baby and the toddler to be sat upright plus the baby is parent facing. TBH its pretty much tandem pushchair dreaminess - and I have to say I think this looks like a fab option for two, plus its at a really affordable price. What I can't vouch for is the long term quality nor can I find out about Smyths warranties. But its a risk I would take - I had a Duellette for around a month and I loved it. If I had two littlies, I would be running out to buy one now!! There's some really awful photos here - taken in a hurry with a phone and there are details, photos and full reviews of the Duellette here under the green "reviews and information" button. I have no real reason to believe that apart from the recline, and different liners that they are much different. I could get the lower seat parent facing with no recline, but with the Duellette, you had to remove the upper seat to get the lower seat on reclined, but I didn't have time to play in the shop.

I am quite seriously bouncing up and down about this pushchair at present because I can't actually think of any other tandem that pushes really well where the toddler can be sat upright with a newborn baby laid flat. It is my find of the year!!

Tiggywunkle · 01/07/2012 23:22

Hurray!! I want the world to know that this could well be a fab pushchair for two!! LOL I hope you like it.

Ihateparties · 03/07/2012 14:10

As long as your not expecting top notch quality then first impressions for a newborn plus sibling pushchair are excellent.

The baby can lie flat facing you in the top seat, loads of room for larger babies, no extra equipment needed, the liner that comes with seems comfy enough (plus there are footmuffs included too) at the same time the toddler can sit bolt upright in the lower seat with ample space and a perfectly reasonable view. Both children are visible (unless the toddler fancies having their hood up) and audible, which is nice as usually the toddler is further forward thus harder to converse with. This is the best of both worlds as not only can you see and hear them it's also easier to push with the weight of the toddler over the back wheels.

The push is okay, acceptable (the other double I have in my house right now is a Peach Blossom one, so a direct comparison to that isn't really right somehow). You can certainly push and steer easily with one hand on flat surfaces. Cambered pavements require more work and two hands. We don't have many hills with which to test that but it's a heavy buggy so I guess that it would be.. heavy.

I could see this being a great option for those who will only need a double for a relatively short time and thus want it to be suitable for newborn and toddler, newborn and older baby and probaby not much beyond that. Once you go beyond that point there are certainly better options for 2 toddlers, this is all about the newborn toddler combo IMHO.

Now... as long as it doesn't break....
