Best buggy for newborn in first floor flat?
elliemay80 · 15/04/2012 17:42
At halfway mark with preg and starting to think about buggies for newborn. We live in a first floor flat. I had been set on the Bugaboo Bee but DH is concerned that there isn't a carrycot that you can lift out and take upstairs if DC is asleep when we come in. If we lived ground floor we could obviously just wheel pram in and let baby sleep but it seems impractical to have to wake baby to get him/ her upstairs as the snuggler in the Bee is flimsy and can't really be put aside while folding pram etc.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a lightweight, urban (ie no need for massive wheels!) buggy that has a carrycot function. Had a look at i-Candy Cherry and that's a possibility. Any others?

Oyster? We really like the carrycot and it lifts out easily. Do you need to consider security if you are going for a high end make?

Bee with baby nest or buy a P&T cocoon for it?

You'd need to disturb them to take off blankets, hat, snowsuit etc anyway so wouldn't worry about it from that angle.
Baby Jogger City Mini - youtube for it to see hold it folds. A lot of the soft carry cots/coccoons fit into it, although BJ won't tell you that obviously.

Thanks for replies. Security not really an issue as we know the neighbours well and the hallway is secure for the frame.
Would the baby continue sleeping in the Bee baby nest? Had a look in a pram shop and it seems quite flimsy so my fear is baby would simply wake up- I'm after an easy life! Will look into cocoon.

Didn't realise BJCM came with carrycot attachment. Will look into that as SIL has one and they seem really good.

Get a decent sling as well - apologies as not up to speed on buggies, but slings are a godsend when you live in flats, especially for newborns :) I recommend a stretchy wrap sling or ring sling for little ones, progressing onto something a bit more sturdy when they get bigger & heavier, what you choose at this stage will depend very much on preference, though.

We live in a first floor flat and have a MacClaren XT. It's a normal buggy, but DS stays asleep when I 'bump' him up & down the stairs in the buggy (he's asleep in it atm)!
It's really light & fits round the aisles in the worlds smallest newsagents.

Thanks Bertie. Have already bought a Moby! A bit too keen perhaps!
Thanks AWoman will add that to my list of prams to investigate!

BJCM with carrycot :o There is a choice of 3 carrycots, so take your pick!
FoofFighterYNWAJFT96 · 15/04/2012 20:58
You can get a Maclaren XLR with the soft carrycot on too.

I have had a Bee and a BJCM and hands down prefer the Bee. I didn't have either for a newborn though, I had a few others . If you are going to keep it for the duration then a BJCM is better for a bigger baby/toddler and could potentially last longer than a Bee. I just luff bugaboo.

There is a carrycot - another brand - that supposedly fits on the Bee but its obviously not safety tested. I can't tell you any more than that though, nor am I recommending it.
