Please help me choose a pram / pushchair

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and my thoughts are turning to practical things. DD is six now and we weren't really expecting to have another so don't have her pram any more and I really don't know where to start.

I need a pram that will

  1. Be small enough to easily use on public transport - must therefore be fairly narrow and generally compact
  2. Be snuggly and comfy for baby
  3. Have plenty of space for shopping in basket
  4. Will transform into a pushchair later on (not essential but desirable)
  5. Does not have loads of separate bits - I don't want to be storing lots of separate components
  6. Comes with apron and easily fitted footmuff for later on if it turns into pushchair
  7. Steers easily and preferably can be pushed with one hand as i have a six year old who is normally sensible but still holding hands crossing roads etc.
  8. Folds quickly and easily for storage in one piece - essential on public transport (one handed folding helpful)
  9. Won't bankrupt me
  10. Does not need to be a travel system as I don't have a car!!

With DD we had a mamas and papas pramette which fulfilled almost everything but I know there will be loads of other options now.

Help. Please

Obaby chase? I'm looking at one of those for myself and it seems to fulfill most of those (i think) it tansforms from pushchair to pram without several attachments to get you there

Thanks aceofbase I'd not even seen those. I think I'll add them to the test list when I finally make it to the shops.

My top 3 one handed folds suitable from birth ater the Baby Jogger City Mini, Britax B-Agile and Graco Swift-Fold. They don't fulfil all your criteria - the BJCM may be too wide, the B-Agile basket may be too small and I don't know a lot about the Swift-Fold. These are all fairly light birth to pre-school pushchairs. Other ones to keep an eye on are the Baby Jogger Versa - a one handed fold with parent facing option and the Easywalker June but the latter is getting pricey. Look also at the new Graco Evo which is getting good feedback but snt a one handed fold (nor is the June). The Babystyle Oyster is a good all rounder as is the MyChild Pinto (comes with car seat but see that as a freebie).
