iCandy Cherry or Strawberry?
panpipe · 02/04/2012 18:21
Baby no.1 is due in August and we've started the Great Pram Hunt! We'd more or less decided on the iCandy Cherry as it looks great, seems really easy to manoeuvre and importantly is very light.
However those little niggling doubts are beginning to creep in, mainly about the wheels. We live on the outskirts of town so won't be doing a huge amount of offroading, but I'm beginnin to get a bit concerned as to whether we'd be limited and end up struggling if we went to the odd fete or more countryfied walks when visitin family etc.
I've not seen a Strawberry in the flesh yet but the photos look a though the wheels are a bit sturdier and larger which may give us more flexibility, plus it isn't as heavy as the Apple or Peach.
What are your experiences of both these buggies? Would we really be constrained to pavements in the Cherry or am I worrying too much?!
PrisonerOfWaugh · 02/04/2012 18:25
I had a cherry, fab pram, but really not suitable for offroading. We used slings or babycarriers and a cheap but robust umbrella buggy in those situations.
SoozyWoozy · 02/04/2012 21:16
I wanted either the Cherry or the Strawberry.
I ordered the Babystyle Oyster instead! Much better value for money IMO. Baby / buggy not here yet so not sure about off-road, but I think the rear air tyres will make this easier.
There are a couple of fabtastic experts here who will have the answer...

LOL I am here but with a sleeping baby in my arms so typing isnt easy!
I think TBH the Cherry would be fine for the odd wander around a field in summer or trip to the park. Hopefully the ground wont be sodden. Most even lightweight pushchairs can cope with a bit of grass or gravel or rough pathway once in a while TBH. My in laws take their Cherry camping and to the beach a lot. I have photos of it on the beach here. If you did a lot of walking then I would probably send you off to look at an off roader, but I think for the odd occasion the Cherry would be fine. The Strawberry is lovely too and I would think would be fine as well. You may wish to look at the Baby Jogger City Versa GT though...or the Easywalker June which have off road wheels and TBH both are what I consider on paper to be the perfect pushchair. Whether they live up to it or not I dont know as yet!!

Thanks for all the help so far! The Babystyle Oyster has been on the list too Soozy so we may revisit that one.
Tiggy wow how comprehensive! I'm not too keen on the Baby Joggers tbh, but the Easywalker looks lovely and is also very light. I haven't heard of the brand before so I may try and track down a display model somewhere.

Yes! The Oyster! Love it!
I think icandys are way overpriced.

Look at the new Babystyle Oyster Max too. Its due out this summer (so may be a bit tight for you) but it looks gorgeous, has similar features to the colour Oyster and has the extra bonus that it could be a double one day too (but it is a stand alone single as well - the second seat sockets come with the doubles kit).
You wont find an Easywalker June here as yet. They are due here in the UK in June but I had a look / small play with it last week and it looks great - dare I say it, as near to a perfect pushchair as you can get.
panpipe · 03/04/2012 14:28
Tiggy I just found another thread you were on discussing the Easywalker/Babyjogger and Oyster Max - that's just thrown a whole new lot of options into the ring! It would be great to actually have a go at some of them, mainly to gauge the weight and manoeuvrability so I don't know if June would be pushing it a bit. The iCandy seems to have a fairly long wait but I don't know how other brands compare.
Might have to have a bank holiday pram mission #2!
Tiggywunkle · 03/04/2012 15:24
You could but I think it would be an August Bank Holiday mission for that little group :)
The June is due here in June, the Versa in July and the Oyster Max I think is September. All dates are moveable feasts though and I would add at least a month to them all, not least for time to get from distributors to shops.

I have the Cherry and we have found it fine for limited off roading - eg walk through the woods behind the house, around national trust gardens (gravel, some mud etc) that sort of thing. We tend to lock the front wheels as then its easier to push over rough terrain. As the buggy is fairly light then, if I've got completely stuck (being jammed in tree routes being on memory), then I've just picked up the whole thing and lifted it out. I love my Cherry... but I probably love my BJCM even more! As a first time Mum, I would have dismissed it had I even known about it as I wanted a proper travel system and for it to look nice but its so easy to use that I would now but it for a newborn, especially as you can now get a carrycot for it.
haylez · 09/04/2012 16:06
I love the look of the Strawberry - I've read a few reviews and it sounds Mary Poppins Style practically perfect. Yet to see one in the flesh though. I know the cherry is pretty fab from a couple of mums down play group with one. If I was choosing between the two though I'd probably go for the Strawberry - it's reviews are so far relatively unanimous. Let us know how you get on
suzie38 · 09/04/2012 18:02
I've recently aquired a Cherry as my 50th pushchair and i have to say i'm really impressed by it...Very lightweight and nippy.
daisydoodoo · 09/04/2012 18:05
Strawberry. Lots if additional benefits over the cherry, such as folding in one piece. That alone would make me choose it over the cherry.
