Large toddler and newborn buggy dilemma

Hi

I am pregnant and having a bit of a dilemma about how I'm going to transport two kids. DS with be 2yr10m when baby arrives. I was thinking of getting a second hand P+T but having looked at the spec I'm not sure that will suit us. DS is very big for his age-off the scale for height and weighs about 17kilo. The P+T says the limit for one of the seats is 15kilo so he's already too big for that and he will probably grow more before July! Has anybody been in a similar situation? If so can you recommend a suitable double? Will be buying second hand as budget is limited.

We currently have a Mclaren XT so was was also wondering about having baby in that and using a buggy board but have reservations about it being comfortable enough for newborn and not having an option to contain DS when I need to. Is there anything I can put in the buggy to make it more comfy for a newborn and will it be safe with a board on the back? Am worried about the possibility of it tipping.

Any advice?!

I would stick with a sling and reins and keep a sling underneath if ds1 really needs a break. Unless of course theres a reason why ds1 can't walk much.

If it's a lie flat maclaren then the one you have should be fine for a newborn. You can buy inserts to make it more comfortable if you're worried. Have a google as there are hundreds

Thanks bronze. I guess I could do that and wait and see if I actually need a double buggy once the baby arrives. DS used to insist on walking everywhere and the buggy was just a glorified shopping basket, but is currently wanting to be in it all the time. My Maclaren says it's suitable from birth so maybe I'm worrying over nothing. Was just thinking if I needed to get anywhere quickly it might be easier to have a buggy I could strap them both into and I might get a bit hot wearing a sling all the time through summer.

you have the same age gap i did between no 1 and no2, my no1 was also a big boy, of the centiles for height/weight, i used a sling for baby and stroller for ds1 and ds1 walked if needed to put the baby down, the other option is a buggy board, tbh i dont thinkn you will get much use out of a double buggy.

when i had ds3, ds2 was 2yrs 4mths, also big and again i did the sling and pushchair method and then also had a bugaboo with a toddler board, used this for ds3 and ds4. the only time ihave had a double buggy is when i had no 5, 2yrs 10mth age gap and he is also big but i now have a half hour walk to tschool so double buggy was a necessity, i got a second hand phil and teds and it was ok, but heavy with ds4 in it and he didnt fit the seat well, couldnt put the hood up or use the raincover, so i eneded up using the bugaboo and buggy board, or my nipper, where little one can go in the pushchair and ds4 sat on the footrest, prob not recomended byt he manufacturer! but it worked well and meant he walked or went on the footrest when tired and as the nipper is so light it was easy to push even with ds4 on the footrest :)

I have a double for the same age gap, the reason being it is a 25min walk each way into town and Dd still naps, if I drove I wouldn't have bothered. I walk everywhere though, I bought a double that goes to a single, to get more use out of it.
