Bugaboo Donkey?

WaftyCrank · 27/03/2012 13:38

I've just had a look and play with one of these in Mothercare and fallen in love. DS2 will be 20 months when baby is born and I love the idea of the carrycot for the newborn and DS being able to face me.

So are they worth the money? Any horror stories?

Also considering the Peach Blossom 2 or maybe the Oyster Max or P&T Promenade but obviously these haven't yet been released have they?

Any other options?

It is beautiful, however it is very square and the chassis is blooming heavy! Not, fun to lift in and out of the car. It is also massive folded, and you will need to get your tape measure out and check it will fit through your front door.

I love the storage in mono, which is a surprise as I was not keen on the look of it at all. Giving my Donkey a month and then I will decide whether to sell or not.

The peach 2 is just coming out now, I think.

The Promenade is out now so you can go look at those in a shop. The Peach Blossom 2 might not be long but not totally sure. Looks like the Oyster Max will be longer. Jane Twone? Not sure when that is out either though! This probably isn't helping, what I meant to say in the first place was on that the p&t IS available!

Thanks for the replies. We have a massive front door so that won't be a problem. Only problem I might have is nursery for DD.

It does tick a lot of boxes but then I've not tried the others yet so I think I need a good play to make sure it's definitely worth the money.

I think it depends what you need. For quality etc it's worth the money and if you look after it and keep the boxes then you will recoup a good chunk on resale. It a fabulous pushchair - good quality, stylish, big seats, lovely seating options, easy to push. Converting from Mono to Duo is not difficult but it's not something I would want to do everyday. Every other day maybe. 95% of the time it's easy but if it's cold or you forget a clip and have to unload the children to do it up, or a clip pinches your fingers then it's a Grrrr! You need to do a fair bit of bending too. The Donkey just fits through a standard door and it doesn't with a car seat on, so I do not know if that is a consideration. It is a fair chunk to lift even in Mono mode - just chunky rather than heavy. The storage basket isn't that deep either - I can only get 4 bags of shopping in at a squeeze. But for walking, having your Chidren parent facing and for looks it's fabulous. So really a mixed reaction here. The Donkey will be my walking pushchair and the Peach Blossom 2 my going out in the car pushchair. If I could only have one though then the Peach Blossom wins on size. It's far easier and less stressful to have a narrower tandem for shopping etc and the Peach Blossom 2 pushes as easily as the Donkey. But you need to be very sure what you want and why.
The Peach Blossom 2 got launched officially this weekend and the first ones should be here in within a couple of months I would say.

Just had our donkey delivered we spent ages looking at them but felt the donkey was right for us. It has got some great feature. Ds1 not due until June so can't wait to try it then!
Managed to get an amazing deal in mothercare at the baby show. Got donkey in mono mode, cabriofix car seat, iso fix base, pushchair car seat adapter, foot muff and umbrella all for £849. The chap charging it through the till made a bit of a mess of it and we did rather well out of it!

Katiebeau · 27/03/2012 21:16

Holly crap Florin that's a steel. I love my Donkey but if your toddler is bigger than average (ours is diddy) leave it, straps don't extend enough.

WaftyCrank · 27/03/2012 21:48

Well it's for DS2 who will be 20 months and new baby. DS is 12 months at the minute and tiny, only 19lbs. He had loads of room in the Donkey seat.

I need it for 3 school runs a day, trips to the city on the bus and walking up and down hills. I currently have an Urbo which is pretty heavy however I am expecting the double to be heavier. It will mostly be for both of them until DS2 starts wanting to walk more and until the spring so I want one that will make a good single too so I'm leaning more towards the Peach as I think the width of the Mono Donkey might annoy me after a while.

Does anyone have a rough idea of the cost of the Peach?

Width of Mono Donk is same as the Cameleon, so is actually fine, just looks massive because of how square it is imo. However, if you use buses regularly I would go for a peach.

WaftyCrank · 27/03/2012 21:58

Yes I use buses most weeks so I'm thinking the peach will be better in the long run. Also have doctors/baby clinics/hospitals/school/nursery to go to regularly so the peach is probably going to be easier isn't it.

I'm just torn because I'd love DS to still face me.

The Peach prices are on the iCandy website to download.

Tiggywunkle · 27/03/2012 22:36

If you have time, have a look at the new Babystyle Oyster Max. That has some parent facing options.

BellaOfTheBalls · 27/03/2012 22:43

I may be biased but...

Donkey - crazy money & very square. I have seen people struggling with it through doors etc.

iCandy's hold their value. There is a selling page on FB dedicated to them; several friends have sold them second hand for only a little less than they paid for them.

I didn't even know they did a tandem oyster but quite frankly it's enough to make me want another baby. My Oyster is fantastic, great value for money, really functional & very lightweight.
