Double for 5 yr old and 3 yr old

No flaming please - if you have opinions on whether I need one please keep to yourself Grin

I have just realised I have 5 weeks of holidays on my own with the kids - aged 6, 5 3 - and I don't drive. Can get most places on trains/buses (ie hour ish to get to Brighton etc) but a double would make life so much easier as 5 yr old has a tendency to fall asleep rather a lot. Also to transport all the cr*p we seem to need.

5 and 3 yr olds both weigh 17kg ish - so what are my options? Was thinking probably phil and teds as have had in past, can get cheap and know can fit onto buses - but as haven't had a double for ages anything else I should consider? Will need to be tandem to fit on buses - and pref available for under £200 second hand.

Is there anything?

Cheers

Blimey, I don't kow...can you get doubles that take that weight? Sorry, not very helpful, am I? Hope someone can give you some pointers.

Single with buggy board? Swap the five year old and three year old between buggy and board, depending on who needs to sleep, etc.?

FriggFRIGG · 22/03/2012 08:48

Mountain buggy +one!
Holds 20kgs per seat!

I have one with my 3.5yr old and 18month old....it changes into a single when you don't need a double, the seats are only upright though when it is in tandem mode, although both my DC manage to sleep in it fine....

Mountain Buggy +One. Awesome for older children. It takes over where other pushchairs end. I love mine :o

Tiggywunkle · 22/03/2012 09:56

Hmmm I just spotted the budget :(

narmada · 22/03/2012 09:56

Phil and teds will tip over if child on top hops out unexpectedly. I don't think they're very stable to be honest.

Thank you for your suggestions. Buggyboard won't work - but you've got me thinking to maybe a single that I could unofficially use as a double (ie I've managed to get 2 kids into an urban detour before)

Any suggestions for that? Any old mamas and papas tanks freestyles or the like that can do it?

Thanks again

Rebecca

AND OMG Shock at the +One - I so would if I could

Probably then an Urban Jungle - because there's nothing as such holding up the child underneath a +One - it uses the recline fabric of the main seat for the other child to sit on. I believe there's a big weight capacity on the seat. The other pushchairs with big capacities are the Baby Joggers. But I can't see where the extra feet would go!!

Have you looked at a Joovy Ultralight Caboose or something similar like a Euphorio Chipolinio (Sp) or a Sit 'n' Stand. They have a harness for the rear child and a bench seat. We had the Ultralight and I have to say it was a lot of fun! You used to be able to import a new Joovy for less than your budget from Amazon.com.

phil and teds, my 5 year old still fits in the back and front, but it is heavy, joovy caboose, again heavy now though with the weight, mb double would be easy to push, but a bugger to get onto buses, mothercare urban detour and get the 5 year old to sit on the foot plate when he gets tired legs. gracos [i have a citisport] get him to sit on the edge of the basket when tired or even in the basket with a cushion, legs dangling out of course, i have this problem too, was thinking single with high weight limit and take it in turns walking, but this don't always work

The Micralite Twofold is on the way - no idea when, nor of price. But it might be worth looking up. We should know more after this weekend.

Codandchips I'm in the same boat..Well similar! .mine are just turned four and 19 months, also will be a long summer for me even though just the two dc...for now!! We have no fam help locally although amazing fam when they are visiting and staying a week here and there but meantimes it's all on me! Hubby works full time so I need to make my day to day and a to b with the dc as easy and fun as poss.....IMO if that means them in a double then great, I'd rather get them to and from park or errands in the shade of buggy than summer sun. and I'm currently debating to sell my bee plus and wheely board for a cheaper stroller board combo and a double for longer trips out, know it will suit my needs, both girls amazing good walkers and don't whine about legs so when they tired I know they really need to sit down! I do long days out and have a far walk to park etc, pleasant though. I will prob go for side by side as higher weight limits it seems, am consider second hand p and t also though, had one before but did have to be careful it didn't tip when front seat emptied! I agree it's the kit you seem to need to take out that causes me probs! Hope you find something suitable, mountain buggy are brill if can manage the width though.

How about an Easylife Sport - I have the double version and the lady I got it from had 2 sets of twins 2 years apart - one set sat in the seats, one on the foot rest and one on the hood! I have had my 120cm 5y in it (whinging on long walk) and my 110cm 4y on the other side and 2y sitting on the hood then made the 5y get out and she sat on the hood! I had a tonne of shopping underneath too so it is a real work horse.

There is one on Ebay here starting bid £20. They go on for years - mine is now 3rd hand and over 10 years old and while faded in places it will go on for years more.
