Pushchairs
At what age did you use the pushchair forward facing, instead of rear?
MeeWhoo · 19/03/2012 08:51
Just wondering when is the most usual age for this.
Thanks.

I changed when DD was about one. She loved it. Definitely wasn't interested in looking at me anymore after that.
Justfeckingdoit · 19/03/2012 09:02
About 6 months. DD is a nosy little beast inquisitive and is much happier attempting to kamikaze fling herself out of the pram looking at the world, rather than boring old me.
Thing to note though is that you look slightly less crazy talking nonsense to a baby facing you than one totally ignoring you, or so the reactions of people around me seem to show.
Oh, and you can miss them trying to pull down the skirt of the nice lady on the tube, who thank god had kids of her own or I may have been in trouble.
AntsMarching · 19/03/2012 09:28
10 months. It'll be obvious when your baby is ready. My dd was straining her neck to look around the sides, figured I was no longer enough and she needed to see the wider world

I don't turn my daughter of 18 months around if she's in a reversible seat. I like talking to her and she still gets a view of things around her as well as being able to shout at me. :o She doesn't care if she is facing out though.
ItsMyLastOne · 19/03/2012 14:15
My DD is 18 months and I have had lots of pushchairs so she does sometimes go FF but more often than not she's facing me. I think we both prefer it as she talks a lot. She can still see plenty when facing me and my main pushchair is an oyster which has very open sides, so I never see her straining to look around.
The good thing about a reversible seat is you don't have to decide at any age that your child is now facing forward, you just turn them whichever way suits you both each time you go out.

Funnily enough I was pondering this at the weekend. With a pushchair in two parts eg an iCandy Cherry or Silver Cross Surf I always made a conscious decision which way to put the seat on every time. On a pushchair where it folds with the seat on forward facing, I rarely turn it round to parent face.part of me forgets that you can, but it's also an extra (all be it small) step. My eldest as been forward facing most of her young life, but now at 3, suddenly wants to see mummy!

Thanks a lot for your replies. My ds is almost 6 months, and now that I've started to strap him only around the waist, without the shoulder straps, he sits up very happily and hangs around the sides looking out, so I was wondering whether he would be happier facing the other way.
I will give it a go at the weekend, although I might have to build some kind of rearview mirrow style contraption so that I can still see what he is getting up to :)

With DD1, about 18 months. Then I would just ask her which way she wanted to face each time we went out (iCandy Apple). We have to take it apart to store it in the house so each time it gets reassembled.
She was in the carrycot for a long time though - until she could roll over.
DD2 is 6.5 months and hasn't really shown signs of rolling so she's still happy in the carrycot.
pookamoo · 19/03/2012 22:09
Oh and the very first time I took DD out facing the other way, a neighbour busybody that I don't even KNOW told me I was doing her damage by having her facing away from me!
MeeWhoo · 20/03/2012 05:55
I know Tiggy, I wish I had know about them before I bought it.
And Pookamoo, what a lovely neighbour you have!

Mine forward face at about 3y though I will have them ffing before then if the pushchair doesn't allow/set up doesn't work for pfing before then. Much prefer pfing though as I don't drive so they spend a fair bit of time being walked places each day.
TheSurgeonsMate · 21/03/2012 12:06
Glad to hear from other pf-ers, dd is pf too at 22 months. FF isn't as nice for me, but I sometimes feel like a bit of a weirdo, really. Whenever I've turned her round, I haven't received any acclaim or heard any whooping for joy, she seems perfectly happy facing me. It's nice to hear that the babies who prefer ff have made their preferences really clear.
