I really really really really want one!!!! Is it really as good as I think it is?! I have a 10month dd and we are planning on having more children if we are lucky enough to be blessed with more! ;0) I really like it and regret not doing my research before as I have a silver cross linear freeway which is so bulky in comparison! The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the raincover as you have to buy two seperate ones if you have it in twin mode.

Unfortunately it's not as good as it seems. :( It felt heavy to push and difficult to steer with two 10 month old babies in, so it would be much worse with a 12 month and 3 year old, say.

Yawner247 · 18/03/2012 23:14

Hmmmm interesting...have you got/had one?! What do you have instead?! I put dd in it and it pushed beautifully obv know that with another dd/ds it would be heavier and more awkward but isn't that the same with any double buggy?! Blush

I dont have time to answer this properly tonight - but I have just put a response on the other thread about double buggies. Believe me all double pushchairs are not the same....key to a double is whether you can push it 6-12 months down the line, and how well it handles. All double pushchairs are great with one child and a newborn in. The true test comes later on. My best suggestions are the Britax B-Dual or new Peach Blossom 2 for a tandem, or there is a wider range of side by sides eg the Baby Jogger City Mini / GT, Easywalker Duo, Bugaboo Donkey, TFK Twinner Twist Duo, Nipper, Mountain Buggies and more!
The BJCS was fab for us for the first ten months but at that point became too heavy to use. A Graco tandem raincover fits great BTW.

HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 19/03/2012 10:33

As Tiggy says, it's a very common misconception that all doubles push the same and that the weight of the pushchair itself makes a difference.

The BJCS seems so perfect on paper that I had geered myself up for paying for a new one and went to John Lewis to try it out to make sure. I was so disappointed about it. I was buying it for my daughter.and niece who were both 10 months and weighed 8.5kg and 10kg resepectively. We put the girls in with my daughter over the front wheels. It just felt a bit heavy to steer but it was almost impossible to lift up onto a step in the showroom. At that small, it really shouldn't have felt heavy at all.

Another thing I'd be put off by is that the baby would be in a carrycot at the front which.really adds to its length and it's not especially short anyway. I think it's best suited if you live in a flattish town/city, don't need to go up and down kerbs often, don't regularly use tight shops or cafes and the older child is likely to stop using it before the youngest is 12 months.

It really depends when you plan to buy as to what I would suggest, purely based on released dates. But it would be between the Britax B-Dual, Uppababy Vista, Peach Blossom 2, Jane Twone and Oyster Max. Only the first two are out now, the third very soon and the others this summer.
I have a B-Dual which is lovely, but feels too wide as a single to be honest. The Vista second seat is very upright so is only suitable for a child who doesn't nap in the pushchair. The PB2 is probably the one I'd go for, especially if you want to buy soon. The Max and Twone may not be as good as they seem, but we won't know either way until they're released.

lynlynnicebutdim · 20/03/2012 15:55

i know others disagree but i have one and i love it. DD is 23 months old and 99th centile and loves it. i find it very easy to push. Am expecting DD2 in 8 weeks and she will go in carseat or the carrycot. The length doesnt worry me too much. I have swapped from a P&T Sport which was quite long to start with so it doesnt seem HUGE to me.

I did a fair amount of research into it and tested it out at JL. I suppose i do tend to use it on fairly flat surfaces and use dropped curbs so i guess for me it suits.

Tiggywunkle · 20/03/2012 16:18

Most P&Ts are actually longer than the BJCS even with the seats back to back :)

I loved my BJCS. I was the biggest fan of it ever! I had one of the first in the country. I like Lyn, lived somewhere with dropped kerbs and fairly flat surfaces. However there was one stretch of pavement which was absolutely no trouble until my children were aged 2.5 and 9 months and then out of the blue the weight of the children started to pull the pushchair towards the road (slight camber) and within 3 trips I had to stop using it because I was in agony up the inside of my arms. I was soooo disappointed :(((

Yawner247 · 21/03/2012 23:40

Thanks for the feedback...I am not a fan of the look of iCandy pushchairs...I've read that it's awkward to get the child sitting at the back/bottom in and out and also they don't look like they have much room...the big attraction to the BJCS is the fact that you can have the children sitting a number of ways, my favourite being the one where they face each other! I think we will go and check it out again in store! Grin

The new Peach Blossom will be available to order from this weekend and has a much better lower seat, it's further from the upper seat, slightly bigger, fabric footrest so better for a taller child, sits upright unlike the current one and doesn't have a bumper bar. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be easy to get a child into the new lower seat at all.

That's exactly what I liked about the BJCS myself-facing eachother-but I wasn't going to compromise my back so that the babies could look at eachother in it. :(

Tiggywunkle · 22/03/2012 15:29

The children facing each other is fine until the eldest either kicks the younger in the head (if on top) or constantly pulls their feet and pokes them when asleep (if on the bottom). Again it worked for us until the baby was circa 9 months old when my eldest kicked the baby and that meant the only realistic option for us was back to back - which had no recline - so each time the baby fell asleep we had to have a big reorganise of seats to let him sleep. (The eldest didn't want to face me and both facing forwards has no recline either).

Its really not that bad to get a child underneath the Peach TBH. With the BJCS you are constantly having to adjust footrests etc to make enough space for the children to put their feet. With both the BJCS and Peach there is always the option to pop the upper seat off to put the lower child in.

The Kidz Kargo Duellette, Uppababy Vista with Rumble Seat, Kolcraft Contours and Bebecar One&Two have nice facing each other options too. All of these are easier to push with older children in than the BJCS, along with the Peach.

The City Select is a pushchair that tears me in half TBH because 95% of it is so good. I loved mine...and to combat everything negative we have said above...you may buy one and be absolutely fine - with your age gap, and if you live somewhere flat with dropped kerbs, or go into shopping malls, or are very car based, then it could suit you great. And it did serve us fantastically well for the 10 months that we were able to use it. You have a smaller age gap than we did, and so it would last you longer (its best suited to twins to be fair), and you should be able to get a good price upon resale. But just be aware that pushability is the one flaw, and whilst it will be easy peasy to push your 10 month old and newborn around for even a year, it may not stay like that until the end of your pushchair days. I treat doubles like a rental. Buy at a good price, keep the boxes, look after but enjoy the pushchair, hope the prices go up, and sell it on again at a good price, maybe to fund something else :) Happy shopping!

Grin Thanks tiggy are you a professional buggy expert/reviewer as you know an awful lot about them Smile thank you for your help!

Tiggywunkle · 24/03/2012 20:57

There's no one better to know a pushchair than people who use them every day :) After over a year I knew the BJCS pretty well :)

Yawner247 · 24/03/2012 20:59

Smile indeed...I did advise somebody against one of my pushchairs last week...and at the end said "I wish somebody had told me the pitfalls of it before I bought it"! Grin

I used to go around telling people how fabulous the City Select was and I really had to eat my words....big time in public....

Yawner247 · 24/03/2012 21:55

Hahaha!! Oopsie!! Grin

Yawner247 · 25/03/2012 18:56

Sad I went to look at the city select today and was very disappointed with it when checking out the combinations and thinking of the comments you both made so it's a definite no! Smile I haven't spent the money on it though so thank you so much!!! Wink

You're welcome. :o Did you see anything else you liked the look of?

Yawner247 · 26/03/2012 15:43

Unfortunately not hypatia dh says no pushchair purchasing until we are 12wks+ pregnant...which means we've got a while to wait Grin might even be an improved select out by then who knows?!? Hehe

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 26/03/2012 23:14

No there wont be. But I have been playing with both the Babystyle Oyster Max and the Jane Twone which TBH I had dismissed as having the children too close together, until I tried it today and it was really very very good....I need time to think about it a bit more and read up about it. But first impressions were excellent. It pushed really easily even with nearly 30kg of child in it!

HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 26/03/2012 23:49

It depends how soon you get pregnant but there are those and the PB2 to come this year so you'll have some good options to look at. Good luck with the baby making! :o
