I have heard that there are some of the soft coccoon things that will fit into a BJCM. Anyone know which ones?
Is it dependent on which fits which year? The one I will be having is a 2010 model.
Are they safe and can you secure them in properly?

Thanks :)

Love the title!
Try a Graco or Petit Zia soft cot. I haven't used them personally but apparently they have a wedge / raised head end. People used them before carrycots were invented :) They apparently clip onto the D rings. I don't see why they woudnt be safe...lots of pushchairs have similar.
I personally preferred my baby strapped in so I used a Bugaboo cocoon but that was forward facing. The soft cots rear face.

Yes it's rear facing I'd be more wanting. So the carrycots clip in but then presumably the baby is unsecured inside? Is that safe?

I dont know of any carrycot that already has a harness inside (I am sure there is one somewhere but I haven't met it yet!)...you can add one to most carrycots if you wished but I dont know whether one would attach to these soft cots. You would have to ask.

Ihateparties · 08/03/2012 23:14

I have the graco and the zia soft cots in my house at the moment (don't ask!) The graco has no harness inside but it does have d rings to add your own, this would be very easy. It attaches to a pushchair via the d rings on the harness using enclosed plastic clips. The zia cot has a 3 way soft harness incorporated and attaches to a buggy in a different way - it has two webbing straps on either side at the top and bottom with plastic hooks which would hook around the frame of (technically speaking) the zia4 or zia plus buggy. Unfortunately I haven't got a city mini here to try it on but I tried it on my b agile and couldn't get what I felt was a safe attachment. I have physically seen them on city mini's though so I know it has been done, just not sure of the mechanics of how. If it's any odds the graco is a more secure fit using the clips but the zia is a nicer cot, slightly better shape, a bit larger IMO. As tiggy said both have the wedge incorporated.

Hope that's helpful, they're not very easy things to describe somehow!

Tiggywunkle · 08/03/2012 23:19

Oohh there you go :) I knew someone would prove me wrong :)

Ihateparties · 08/03/2012 23:29

It's a fabric and velcro job though, as oppose to webbing and clips job. Ideally I'd take a picture... it's too hard to describe adequately,. my brain hurts.

OMGBFP · 09/03/2012 08:25

Thank you lol

I had a horrid experience with my first child in a pram unsecured ( quite some time ago now, you barely saw d rings on anything) where on our first outing it got stuck front wheels first (I didn't know back wheels was recommended Blush ) in a kerby cobbled bit and she slipped down and got all crumpled, still think about that 21 years on!

Can i ask one more thing do either of these come with handles like the P&T cocoons do? I will have to leave buggy at bottom of stairs and carry baby down 9and all the necessary crap too) so with handles would be ideal :)

Also am having trouble finding the zia one online anywhere, I hope they've not discontinued it Shock

Thanks

I wonder if anyone would have experience of a Luna or Maclaren soft carrycot for this too?

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 12/03/2012 20:50

Both the Graco and the zia cots have handles. I need to lift mine off for the school run so it was a requirement. The Maclaren one I don't know but actually bought a Luna one and returned it because it didn't fit very well where I wanted it to. Also it has no wedge so probably wouldn't sit right on the city mini unless you used something else to account for the slope of the seat. Nice cot though, proper hood etc. Can't remember if it has d rings.

The 3 point harness in the Zia one wouldn't stop the baby sliding up the cot in the situation as you describe.. I don't think anyway. Hard to know in practise. The thing that bothered me about it is on the zia there's a flap that's supposed to tuck over the back of the seat of the buggy and velcro on to secure it from slipping off the front of the seat. I don't think it's possible to do that on the city mini from memory because of the mesh up the back (could be wrong, it's ages since I had one) the hooks at the front of the cot serve to stop it from slipping backwards up the seat but far as I can work out I don't know how you'd stop the whole cot slipping forwards. Shame because it's nicer and has hood etc.

OMGBFP · 13/03/2012 07:27

I was thinking the Zia looked bigger and more roomy than the Graco so was opting for that, but now you have said that i don't know!? Maybe i can attach something for the mesh end to secure it a bit better?

I wish there was a way to try all these out without having to buy them all! I'd be interested to see the mac one on it although have a feeling it would be really narrow.

Interesting. Wasn't going to get carrycot as BJCM one ia too expensive, but might try graco.

OMGBFP · 13/03/2012 17:20

There are some forum posts on it if you google xyz carrycot on a BJCM but never any pictures, which would be very useful!

I'm just putting a pic of both and their fastenings on my profile. Showing them on my pram will do you no good cos it's a totally different set up (I'm putting them on the lower seat of a Hauck duett so attachment totally different). Hopefully it will help though. The Zia cot is waaaaay comfier for the baby, I have used it today and totally changed my mind about the fit, the hooks are more adaptable and secure than I thought. It also has d rings as well as the soft harness so no worries there. Sorry I haven't got a city mini to put them on and photo!

OMGBFP · 14/03/2012 14:42

Thank you for that, don't forget to make your profile public :) much appreciated!

The Zia is a LOT bigger isn't it? Although I do like the lining in the other!

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 16/03/2012 20:39

Ah.. I may have sewn that in! The zia white liner is cotton, the graco is... god I don't know what but it's kinda plasticky. I thought the zia hood would be a bit pointless but really it's not too bad, the baby seems a lot more exposed in the graco one.. probably in my mind rather than entirely literally iyswim
