BJCM 2011 vs 12 and 3 vs 4 wheel

Soooo am wondering if I might need a BJCM in my life??

Are they good as toddler pushchair?

Any good for flying/taking away?

Any good for serious urban walking, maybe even buggyfit?

3 wheel or 4 (can't decide if the 4 looks a bit funny) what's the difference?

Is it worth paying for 2012 model?

I have had a buzz 4 (2011 model) which controversially I have loved, but DD getting quite heavy to push now (1 year ish) and had a Zapp as in and out of car pushchair for DS. Still have the Zapp, but work less and walk more nowadays and it's a bit rickety for a long walk.

Any info gratefully received.

Thanks in advance!!

Everyone has to try a BJCM once :)
Yes they are fab as a toddler pushchair with large seats.
They are perfect for flying with as the flat fold hopefully means less gets damaged, but I would find a travel bag anyway to keep the fabrics clean.
It should be fine for urban walking - the new BJCMGT has small air tyres which may be better for buggyfit?

The 4 wheel is more stable - its not really an issue so much with older toddlers, but is with the car seat (and I would think the carrycot) on top as it can then be top heavy and tippy under certain circumstances. Also if you push one handed the 4 wheel is more stable. But there is no 4 wheel GT Hmm

The main differences with the 2012 BJCM model are fairly minor: the hoods are fully lined with the contract colour, contrast piping has been added, the logos have been removed from the hoods and the only big change is that the tubing around the basket area has been lowered for better access.

Theres a bigger difference between the 2010 and 2011 model as the 2011 has the PE board in the rear and the sit upright straps which are useful for an older toddler.

Thirstysomething · 07/03/2012 12:54

What is the PE board Tiggy? Sorry for being clueless...

Tiggywunkle · 07/03/2012 14:09

It's a plastic corrugated board that fits in the rear of the seat (you can buy them for older BJCM) and gives it rigidity. An old complaint of the BJCM was that the children slumped and this stops that. But a piece of thick cardboard cut to size could equally do the job :)

Thanks!

we got a 2nd hand one and took it for 3 year old DD to Disneyland paris! We were in the parks 13 hours a day and it was fab!

Did you make a decision? I could have written this exact post earlier this week! I was tempted to go for 4 wheels well. I went to have a look at them on Thursday and came home with the 3 wheel 2012 version. It feels pretty stable, the basket is easier to access and it has a little clip that holds it folded that the 2011 didn't have. I haven't actually used it yet but pleased with my choice.

Jupiter118 · 12/03/2012 00:12

goingforfour - jealous as haven't actually made it to shops to look. Also need to wait to get paid, maybe even until next month as only just back at work post mat leave. What made you decide 3 wheel not 4?

What colour?

We've got a 3 wheeler for my toddler who is now mainly walking so not using it. Was thinking of getting car seat adapter and carry cot for my newborn due soon but worried about the stability comments - is this a big issue?

Tiggywunkle · 12/03/2012 01:06

Its not a big issue - but it is a bit of an issue if you use the upper settings. There's two places for a car seat or carrycot on the BJCM. The hard carrycot goes on the lower setting, and the car seat adaptors I believe either come with it, or are the same adaptor. The upper setting takes the compact and compact plus carrycots, and the other car seat adaptors plug in here. I honestly did find the BJCM3 tippy with a car seat on the upper setting, but if you are careful it is fine. It's not that bad but if you push one handed, or do sharp turns - I used to notice it most when I had loaded the car seat on, and turned the pushchair round on the spot to shut the car door / start walking. The rest of the time it was fine. So no, its not a huge issue and people have used it for years. But the 4 wheeler is more stable. If I was buying the BJCM starting afresh to use the car seat on then I would advise the 4 wheel version - but I managed ok with the 3 wheeler pre 4 wheel option!

CervixWithASmile · 12/03/2012 06:58

Brilliant, thanks for the info. If only there was one perfect pram out there!

Tiggywunkle · 12/03/2012 09:20

I think the BJCM comes close simply for ease of use. One thing I got reminded of last night is that the 2012 has an auto lock too. This is great, but it does alter the thing the BJCM is known for ie one handed fold and one handed open with baby tucked under one arm / toddler in one hand. For this reason the lock is removable for all those die hard BJCM one handed fans :)

goingforfour · 12/03/2012 11:37

Hi Jupiter, I was slightly swayed by the price as buying the bjcm is a bit expensive for a stroller so saving the extra cash was one reason for choosing 3 wheels but also it feels stable enough and I don't have the issue of putting on the carrycot or car seat. I really really wanted a green one but they have discontinued that for 2012 so I went for the stone which is actually quite nice! The other reason for choosing the 2012 is I thought it might resell better when I no longer need it as I think the modifications from the 2011 make it a better buggy. It was good to go and see them in real life, Internet shopping is great but if you can go and have a play and try it out then I would recommend it.

curiousparent · 12/03/2012 12:49

Just to say that the 2012 BJCM4 still is one handed fold by pulling the centre strap - the autolock doesn't alter that function but of course when you go to unlock you either need to undo that first prior to opening or as Tiggy says remove the lock.

But they are fab - and the basket access imo makes the 2012 worth the extra! :)

Tiggywunkle · 12/03/2012 16:19

Yes sorry, you pull one handed to fold and then I assume the autolock snaps shut. I am assuming its not possible to undo the auto lock and flick the BJCM open...but it may well be :) The B-Agile isn't a one handed open so I would be interested to hear if the BJCM 2012 is or isn't. I will see for myself in two weeks time.

goingforfour · 12/03/2012 17:27

Hi, I don't feel quite experienced enough to answer the last query, I only bought my bjcm 2012last Thursday and not used it yet! But, the clip at the side seems pretty easy to release and I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do it with one hand. I have a question, if you have the bar accessory on, does it still fold up as small or do you have to remove it?

curiousparent · 13/03/2012 06:40

Yes as you said Tiggy you pull and then autolock does auto shut. I have not yet mastered the art of a one hand open - but as you say it may well be possible!

I think as you said (possibly on another thread) the BJCM is practically perfect - for me the only thing that would make it so is adjustable handlbar (i'm short!) and then to also parent face - so bring on the versa I say!
